Monday Check In

Monday, December 15, 2008

emoticon Good Morning! It's an icy one here today. I'll be skating to work.

Today is the cookie exchange at work today. God, HELP ME!!! Sweets are my downfall. I can't find one positive thing to say about it. I love sweets and find them very hard to resist. I can remind myself why I am here all day long but I love the sweets. Then I beat myself up for eating them. Vicious cycle!!! I'm not really happy with what I made but I'm bringing them anyway. They have to get out of the house. If they aren't eaten at work I'm throwing them away. I know that's wasteful but it's better than eating them all myself. emoticon

I know it's a choice to eat them. I'm going to try to choose to do the right thing. I know it's stupid to think I won't eat any so I'm going to limit myself to two. There is one other vegan in the group so I will only have two options really.

I was reading someone's page yesterday and they had a lot of very inspirational thoughts. I wrote them down and may include them on my page if they are ok with that.

I've noticed that I completely overeat on the weekends. I can typically stay pretty close to my calorie range (not over 1800 calories). But on the weekend I'm consistently over 2000 for the day. I'm sure that if someone followed me around and recorded every single thing I put in my mouth I would be well over 2500. I'm sure I miss stuff plus when I cook I nibble. I'm going to try to keep a closer eye on that. Starting 12/22 I'm off of work for a week. I can't afford to have a week full of 2500 calories days. Peanut butter is a big snack for me. I have to find better options. That is going to be my challenge for the week of 12/22. Find better options for snacks that aren't peanut butter. Thanks to the calorie deficit tracking for bringing this to light. Not that I couldn't see it on the nutrition tracker but something about having it all right there in front of me worked. Thanks Terriangel!

Well have a GREAT Monday! I'm off to resist temptation!

I'm having a hard time leaving comments. Something must be off with Sparkk today. Just left you a comment on your previous blog and it wouldn't take it. Strange...

Anyway, I'm right next to you on the sweet thing, sistah. SOOOOO hard to resist, and sometimes I just don't bother trying. :) But you and I both know what to do, we're smart cookies (pardon the pun) we just have to put the knowledge to action.

I hope you fared well with the cookie exchange at work. Off to read your other blogs!!

OH the weekend!

Saturday, December 13, 2008

Good Morning! emoticon

Thank God the weekend is finally here. It's been a rough week. I made it through and am looking forward to awesome workouts this weekend. I sure hope the weather gets a little better. I am really missing my walks. I can feel the difference in my attitude and my body when I don't get them in. I don't think anyone realizes it but I can feel it. So I have to make an effort to ride my bike for an extra 30 minutes today and tomorrow. It just helps my mental clarity.

I'm going to try a lentil loaf this weekend. I've been wanting meatloaf; not the actual meat but the feeling of the meal. So after a lot of searching I found a recipe I want to try. Sunday is the big day. I'm going to make mashed potatoes and green beans to go with it. DH has decided on a steak. I love the way we work this stuff out. It works for us anyway. He picked today's meal (burgers). I have some boca burgers to get rid of so I'll have one of those. I've been searching for a burger recipe too and can't find one to my liking yet. I don't want to just toss out stuff I don't eat anymore so I'm going to finish the bocas then go on my own. We didn't figure out lunches but those aren't too difficult. My fall back is the veggie wrap and that seems to be an ok lunch on the run. I'm still trying not to eat a lot of bread so it's a good compromise. That way I'm not getting bored with just salad.

Can you believe how close Christmas is? 11 days to Christmas Eve!!! Thankfully all our shopping is done. We are going to get our tree today. Now that is something I've been thinking about a lot this year. Since switching to a vegan diet you can't help but read all the lifestyle vegan stuff too. All my life we have had a real tree. We used to make a whole day of it and go chop one down. The last 3 years we have bought one. I love a real tree. It's not really vegan though to kill a tree just for your enjoyment. But since they are already cut down shouldn't someone buy them? I've really been trying to figure out how to get my tree and be environmentally friendly too but I don't think it's going to work. Someone mentioned getting a potted one and then planting it. Well I don't live on acres of land so after about 2 years of that I wouldn't have any space. LOL What to do??? emoticon

Tomorrow is my big tally day for calorie deficit tracking. I weigh in and take measurements. I think I did ok but the tape will tell me tomorrow. Stay tuned.....

Have a great weekend!

Sunday Ramble.

Good Morning! emoticon

As I entered all the data for my calorie deficit tracking I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong. I seriously can't be 2800 calories over for the week. I feel really good. My workouts have been awesome! I don't feel like I'm over eating. I don't really have any more time in my day that I can devote to working out. My body fat is going down. My weight isn't going up. But this darn calorie deficit tracking is consistently going up and up and up. The only way I seem to get a deficit is when I eat a heck of a lot less (like 1300 calories). That can't be right. I'm going to have to do more reading and make sure I'm doing this right.

I made my Christmas lasagna last night. It needs a little work. First it's very labor intensive for me to pull off on such a hectic day. So I might put it all together the day before. Plus it needs to be in a smaller pan, more seasoning and more sauce. I think that will about do it. I'm still going to make it for Christmas. I just need a little tweak here or there.

Today's workout was TH Cardio, Yoga Flex and Abs. I hope to ride my bike for 30 minutes today while watching football. It's just going to be too darn cold to walk outside today.

I had steel cut oats for breakfast today. I forgot how much I like them. I put in 2 T walnuts, 1 t vanilla, 1/2 t cinnamon and a banana. YUMMY!! Next time I should try putting the banana in the oats while they are cooking. I've heard that is pretty wonderful.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Week 1 - Complete!

Saturday, December 06, 2008

Good Morning and Happy Weekend!!! emoticon emoticon

I completed week 1 of the Tony Horton 10 Minute Trainer series. I have to say that I like it. They are fast effective workouts that can easily fit into anyone's current lifestyle. They even make you want to do more. I've already worked out today (TH). I'll go get my pedicure and come back and chop some veggies etc for the week. Then DH and I have some running around to do. I'm praying Trader Joes isn't that crowded since it is so freaking cold here and it snowed overnight. Then when we get back I'm going to ride my bike for 20 minutes. We really don't have any plans tomorrow so I have plenty of time to ride after my official workout. Maybe I can watch some football that way. emoticon

All in all it was a pretty good week. Work is so slow right now. I hate having to be there when there isn't anything to do but I'm also thankful I have a job. Since it was so slow I was able to plan and book our first vacation in a very long time. I don't count Disney 2007 because that was my whole family. DH and I don't really do vacations. We would rather save the money. Well I think it's time we started living a little and he agreed. So in February (for our anniversary) we are going to Phoenix to RIDE!!! Yes, that's right we are going to ride for 4 days. I can't wait. I just have to hold on until then. I have to try not to drive him nuts until then constantly talking about it. Why do women do that? Anyway, I have a couple months to get everything planned.

We are having a cookie exchange at work again this year. Last year I caved and didn't make mine vegan so then I couldn't eat anything. This year there is another person in the office who is transitioning to vegan. So my contribution will be vegan this year. I'm going between the oatmeal raisin cookies or peanut butter cookies. I have all my Christmas shopping done for now. I just need to get stocking stuff for DH and something little for my nieces. This just might be the least stressful Christmas yet. We are going to get our tree next weekend.

I'm making my Christmas lasagna this weekend as a trial run. I haven't made it before so I need to do it now so I can make any necessary adjustments before the big day. DH said he would try it so let's pray it is good.

Comcast is still blocking all my SP emails so I am not really participating in any of the board discussions. I guess that's not really a bad thing. I am concentrating on using the nutrition and fitness trackers and not focusing so much on the threads.

Well have a great weekend and even better workouts!

Week 1 - Day 5

Thursday, December 04, 2008

Good Morning!!! emoticon

Today is Week 1 - Day 5 of the 10 Minute trainer series and I'm loving it! They are really good workouts. I am feeling muscles I forgot about. I love the muscle soreness that comes with switching up your routine and confusing your muscles.

Well my Christmas shopping is complete! DH did all of it on his day off this week. Thank God for him. Don't be too mad ours is really easy this year. I already bought my nieces gifts months ago. All we had to buy for was his two nieces and they wanted gift cards. Done! My parents just moved into a new house so that was easy. Done!!! His dad is getting a gift card because he complains about any gift he gets. Done!!! So now I just need to make my gift jars for work. I'm working on that a little each night. I need to go to JoAnn Fabric to get the fabric for the lids.

This gives me plenty of time to plan our February vacation. Paul is taking me riding in AZ. I am so freaking excited about it. That will hold me over all winter. emoticon I have a few more calls to make today but will be booking everything TODAY!!!

Comcast is blocking SP email again. I guess it's not a bad thing. Sometimes I get so caught up in the boards and the discussions I forget why I'm really here. It's for me to track my progress and to improve. So now I'll check in from time to time to see what is happening on the boards but otherwise I'm on here for me. I'll be paying attention to my nutrition and fitness tracking. This will help me stay focused.

Eye on the prize!! Have a great day!
