brrr....too chilly for May!

Thursday, May 17, 2012

I know it's only 5 am, but it's freezing in my house. The weather has sucked lately. I'm ready for SPRING!!!! Not gross, rainy, cold days or super hot summer weather....where are the 73 degrees and breezy days of my dreams?! not here in New Hampshire, that's for sure...

Spencer's up already, he woke at 4 and spent 45 minutes crying on and off in his crib...finally I hauled myself out of bed. He's a little sniffly, I think he's got a cold. He's watching Curious George right now, and I'll change him and give him some milk soon and try to tuck him into bed with Joe. I love snuggling him but I have stuff to do...didn't make lunch last night so I've gotta do that!

Yesterday I did my treadmill workout with some running (210 calories burnt), arms, abs, and legs. My abs are sore! LOL. Today I plan to work out on lunch but maybe use the elliptical and give myself a little break from the treadmill. My calves are getting sore and stiff. We'll see. I don't particularly like the elliptical machines. But I know I need to change up my workout sometimes to see changes all over.

Chicken for lunch again today... we got WIC vouchers for both kids yesterday and stocked up on fruit, green beans, milk, bread, etc... but still need to go grocery shopping tomorrow! THANK GOODNESS FOR PAYDAY! We have about 17 dollars in the bank right now, lol.

Being broke sucks, but, we'll make it through.

yesterday= a good day! Non-Scale Victories for the win!

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

I ate well with the exception of some cheez-its at around 7:45 pm, I did a minute walking/minute running on the treadmill again at lunch, I used hand weights for some arm exercise, and I worked my abs and legs too. I'm feeling proud of myself today for sticking with the routine I'd set for myself and really working towards making my goals become reality. I just hope I can keep it going! OH, and I also drank ALL 74 ounces of water in my bottle and had a glass with dinner. I rarely finish the bottle in a day (though I get close) so that's a pretty nice accomplishment for me.

My hubby jogged early in the day yesterday because there was a break in the rain, so when I got home I didn't get in any "extra" cardio by chasing Spencer around. I was actually pretty tired last night. I made chicken, green beans, and potatoes for dinner... I counted my dinner at about 300 calories as I measured or weighed everything I ate. The potatoes were sooo yummy... I have about a 1/4 of a cup of them for lunch along with 2 ounces of chicken (Chloe's leftovers), 1/2 cup of rice, and 1/2 cup of chick peas. Snacks will be a challenge today as we are running low on everything..thank goodness I get paid tomorrow at midnight!! It's tough because a lot of the kids' snacks (crackers, etc) aren't "nut-free" but my job is, so I can't bring anything with a "may contain traces of peanuts or tree nuts" on the package. Limits my choices somewhat.

Oh well, I'll make it work! I can always snack on fruit with my class at work during snack time too if it comes to that. :)

I'm curious to check my weight but holding off...I know if I check now and the number's still at 196 I'll be discouraged, and I've been doing too well this week to mess it up. I'm counting all these little Non-Scale Victories (jogging on the treadmill, sticking to my calories, getting in some strength training) instead!

Feelin' good this Tuesday

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Aside from the fact that it's raining AGAIN!

Yesterday I felt went great. I went to the gym on lunch and spent the last 10 minutes of my treadmill workout running a minute on, a minute off. Then I actually stayed to do the cool-down, I usually skip it since I don't have time. I burnt 200 cals according to the treadmill. Then when I got home, Joe went for his jog up and down the driveway (which is long and hilly). The kids wanted to go too. So I spent some time chasing Spencer around. I also did a little ab and leg work- not much, but a start. I am feeling itchy, especially behind my knees. I'm hoping it's not another rash!

Today for lunch I'm having chicken and rice with veggies, just like yesterday. We are running really low on food, too, and we are broke until I get paid on Friday. We have plenty of snacks and stuff for the kids, just not a lot for Joe and I, who are both counting calories. Oh well, we'll make it!

Not much else to report- I'm going to hit the gym again during lunch, and hope that the rain stops sometime soon! More tomorrow.

Down a size in 10 days??

Monday, May 14, 2012

Ok, so, my weight is holding steady at around 196. Not the best, but, it's a start. I'm going to attempt to not weigh myself again until the end of the month. I rely too much on the scale without enough positive results, and get discouraged.

Instead, I'm going to focus on trying to fit into my size 16 jeans by the 24th when we go away for Memorial Day. I know it's only 10 days away. But my 18s are pretty loose right now and I feel like this little challenge will help me finally get out of them. I just discovered my 20s in a drawer...they look so big even though it's just one size different than the jeans I'm wearing now. Definitely saving them to compare as I go down in sizes.

Anyway, I plan to keep doing what I've been doing during the week and really focus on the weekends to get cardio in and watch my calories. I'm also going to start doing a short cardio workout at night as well as doing the arms/legs/abs/butt exercises on my Kindle (5 minutes each) every night. I can so do this!

My goal was to lose 10 pounds in May. I've already lost 4 or 5 (depends on the day). I know I can lose another 5 before the end of the month. I'll really have to watch myself when we're at my parents' house for Memorial Day, and try to get in some exercise. I'm ready for the challenge!

HELP! Chicken Calories?!?!

Sunday, May 13, 2012

Ok, this weekend I strayed a bit, and am trying to get back on track for the week by making lunch ahead of time. I cooked three small chicken breasts (each weighed about 3 ounces after baking them in the oven) and am having one for lunch tomorrow with some green beans and half a cup of rice.

My dilemma is this: while I eat chicken quite often, I can never seem to get an accurate answer as to how many calories one ounce of baked, bone/skinless chicken contains, which is necessary for me to properly calculate the calories in the pieces I'm eating. Usually we buy a package of chicken breasts and then slice the breasts in half through the middle to create two flatter pieces, then freeze them separately for storing. So if the container had 6 decently-sized breasts we end up with 10-12 halves, typically. I always weigh my chicken after cooking and usually my portions are between 3-4 ounces per serving.

I'm trying to do this calorie-counting thing correctly but every time I search for the nutrition info I find such varied answers I don't know what's correct Can someone please give me a basic idea of how many cals are in one ounce of chicken!?!

Thanks so much. :)

I did a little research online and figured out an average calorie count one 1 oz of chicken is 47 calories.. I would round it to 50 just to be safe!! that way if you are over by a few calories it is a buffer in your favor.. but most of the answers I got were pretty consistant and within about 5-7 caloires of eachother..
