Another day off

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Its almost 1:30 and the plows are getting my condo dug out

We'll be back in school tomorrow for sure so now I'm surrounded on my living room floor by the paperwork I've been procrastinating.

At least I'm feeling well enough to tackle it today!

That never happens in Southern California! We get hit by floods, fire and rain but never get the day off...and, EARTHQUAKES!
Have a great day!

Snow Day redux

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

One of the bonuses of being a teacher!

But that's not what this blog is really about.

I had bronchitis and I've never really quite shaken it (still have a loose cough, without giving TMI) and Sunday nite, my nose started running

It seems to be the viruses that are slowing me down from shifting my bootcamp into HIGH GEAR. I was hoping by now I'd be up to at least 45 mins of high-energy exercise 5-6 days/week, if not 60 minutes...but here I am, barely getting in 30/day. And what I'm doing can hardly be categorized as high-energy.

But at least I'm doing something and moving my body so I guess its all good, even tho I want to whine about it. But how can I whine when I get a freebie day off??? I'll be whining in May when we're making-up the days!

I'm using today to push fluids and rest so I can beat this virus back and I'm just about to go make YET MORE chicken soup (for the soul and the cold and whatever else ails me)

Hope you are feeling much better today.
I hate exercise, but WALKING is my choice. Worked for Garrett (remember him, the Subway guy?) How many carbs are you on a day?

Bootcamp is fun? It sure is!

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

I found about 26 others to Low Carb bootcamp with me. I'm glad I found so many b/c we're down to like 12 or 13 who have stuck with it. Its not easy but everyone who has hung in there is SO proud of themselves (and rightfully so!) What a great way to start the year!

I would love to know more about your bootcamps, and what is owl? Low carb seems to be the thing now, but I worry about too much fat and cholestrol. I'm still trying to get my numbers right on the nutrition tracker. I can get the carbs and protein in the right range, but am having trouble with calories and fat. Any suggestions? Since I had to go private, I'll add you to my list of friends. You can reply there if you wish. Thanks a bunch.

Just call me Oprah

Thursday, January 08, 2009

I'm so glad Oprah is talking about her struggle. It SO makes me feel not alone!

And then I read the article about resolving to lose weight. Bad idea.

Good idea to resolve to change lifestyle. Weight loss will follow.
Its all about the lifestyle!

Even my husband commented on how Oprah, being a gazillionaire, cannot even keep the weight off, thinking she should have it so easy with a personal trainer, personal chefs...the whole nine yards. Just goes to show you it can be a major struggle for ANYONE, no matter the income/socioeconomic level we are at. Thank you, Oprah for being so real about it!

Oprah, you're so smart : ) I read a blurb about her struggle online. I think that's why I love this site. We're all continually working toward a common goal - being healthy. You're such a wonderful leader/teacher/teammate/encourager on this site. Thank you!!

SNOW DAY!

Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Actually its ice & really not very bad. Just bad enough to cause some accidents during St Louis rush hour, which called off school. Bummer

NOT!

So, instead of a video at home this am, I'm gearing up for some spinning bike time at the gym. I have to work back up to being able to keep up with my spinning classes b/c the PT had me off spinning for a while.

But I did 45 mins the other day so I'll go for 50 mins today (including warm up & cool down). I'm adding 5 mins per time. When I'm up to 60, I'll start working on increasing the intensity of the workout & I'll be able to go back to class. I just want to be able to keep up in class and right now I can't stand thru a whole song. Maybe I'll try that today. It still got my heartrate too high last time. (I wear a HRM).

I'm also committed to weighing every time I hit the gym this year. I'm not a weight monitoring-type person but I CAN easily get in denial and completely ignore the scale. So, I'll weigh but not report until my bootcamp is over. It's just a good habit for me to get into & to start learning to be neutral about the number on the scale.

When I get home from the gym, I'll do my New You Bootcamp Video for today and my PT excercises and then I've got some stuff I've procrastinated long enuf that needs my attention.

    yeah for snow days!

Thanks for the comment on my page!!
And yes, Im in good Ol' Minnesota. We have had some serious cold negitve days here this winter so far.. Im crazy for starting this challenge! but at the same time so glad I did(It was actually my trainer's idea mid dec. a time to just go walk and sort my goals etc. not meant to be for excersize, and it was to be beyond my regular strength training and cardio! and Im so glad I did it! Im kinda nervous but I guess if I can walk in negitive 15 degrees, with blowing drifts at 6:30 am I can handle the rest of this winter! and I run in rain, so walking should be a breeze. Its a fun challenge too.
hope you were able to get out with the ice!
and hope you had a good spin class as well!!!
thanks again!
Shawna... oh and I think I have seen you before.. low carb team or zone?? maybe??
