4 years

Friday, January 13, 2012

Yesterday was my 4 year sparkiversary - thank you Donna for reminding me :)
Over the last 4 years I haven't made much progress with my weight, probably because I'm at a weight that's good for my height and life style (5'8' - 142-146 pounds) - that doesn't mean I stop trying to get back to 140 or below!
On the exercise front I've made big improvements. For years now I do a 25 minute yoga session an average of 4-5 times a week, the last couple of months I have added 30 min to an hour brisk walks at least 3 times a week and this week I've done my first Bow Flex session - more to follow!

The biggest gain from being here has been the wonderful spark friends I've found!
Thank you to everyone for your support, encouragement and friendship

Remember, most people who join Sparks QUIT, so you are a winner just for staying with this for four years. I'm not at my goal after 4 years, but I know if I had quit I'd be about 314# now rather than where I'm at. I've never been over the 214# that I was the day I joined, so I think that is a great accomplishment. It is easy to gain more each and every year once your already fat.

Curry

Thursday, January 12, 2012

Yesterday it was cooler and overcast and I felt like comfort food for lunch. We hadn't had curry for a while so I made a sauce with onions, garlic, bell peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and chick peas and added half a jar of store bought Korma sauce.

Served over curried rice pilaf this would make a wonderful vegetarian dish... however, we like chicken or shrimp - yesterday's choice was chicken. I cooked it on the side so the leftover sauce is frozen on its own for future use.

My lunch yesterday:

Tuesday lunch

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

After my work out yesterday I needed a good lunch. I made grilled salmon, herb roasted potatoes with steamed broccoli and cauliflower

I expected to sore this morning but I'm not :) I was a little creaky but a tough yoga session took care of that. Tree pose, warrior 1, 2 and 3 and lots of shoulder stretches.
No walking today as my friend had something on and I want to go to the book sale once I've finished my coffee.

Your food always looks very inviting -- you have a real knack for arranging things just so on the plate! And after all, appealing to the eye is very important!

Yum! Looks good. emoticon I try to have salmon once a week at least, but hubby is not a big fish eater, so it has been a challenge with him home the past few weeks. I usually try to have fish for lunch. He prefers beef or pork, and though he will eat chicken, he gets tired of it if I have it too often. So I have to be creative and change things up often to keep him eating more healthy selections. WTG on the exercise. I got a good session in yesterday as well and am looking forward to it again as soon as I finish here. BLESSings!

Adding more exercise

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

This morning I started with yoga and after breakfast I walked over to my friend's house to use her Bow Flex machine - that was a new one on me and I was glad she could show me how to use it. I did all upper body exercises, mostly working the arms - I'll feel them tomorrow. I started out with 10 pound weight and thought that was not too hard till about half way in the session... I don't thing I'm ready for heavier weights yet.
After the weight exercises I had a 10 minute go on the "jiggle machine" Ha, I thought it wouldn't do much except loosen you up but was surprised at it actually working muscles.
Then we took Maggy, the dog, for a walk for our cool down and I walked on home.

I feel I had a work out!

Market in Empalme

Monday, January 09, 2012

Every Sunday there is an open air market in Empalme, a town south of Guaymas, about half an hour from here. Yesterday my friend and I had the opportunity to go with some locals to help us find it and translate if necessary.
It was a few streets long and the stall were very varied: clothes, shoes, electronics and furniture, all mostly used, food stands, produce and meat.

Cleaning supplies

Used camping gear

My find for the day was a (used) 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup with pour spout for 30 pesos ($2.50). I need one to make my yoghurt as the 2 cup one too small. My friend had been looking unsuccessfully for one up norht on her recent trips, so I was thrilled to find one :)
We got some produce and go the rest of our shopping at Sams and Walmart on the way home. I'm all stocked up for the week.
