Well, after knee surgery followed by an infection and complications, I am finally up and around and looking at eating well. I am currently anemic so I am not allowed to go under a certain number of calories til that is better.
I have learned one thing from this -- well, I knew it already but now I really know it -- eating a small number of calories does not make me lose weight. I've had very little appetite until just this past week. Many days, I was doing all i could to get 500 good calories down. This went on for 6 weeks. And what did i lose? 10 lbs!
But never mind. I am going for the Healthy at Every Size goal and if, when I'm totally recovered, I can get back to walking for exercise, that may help.
Anyway, hello everyone! I hope you have a great holiday. And I look forward to re-meeting you and reading how your journey is coming along.

My surgery went well and I left the hospital on schedule. It was kind nice to just have people deliver healthy food to me in bed (-:
Recovery is turning out to be much more onerous than I thought. It's going well; in fact, I am ahead of schedule in some areas and behind in none but it is a lot more work than they had explained to me previously. I have to be on a machine 8 hours a day. It isn't painful but it is confining. I also have to do PT 4X day (once with a PT who visits me at home). I can't get into a bathtub yet, don't have a walk-in shower and washing my hair today was quite the chore. Hard work from Larry, too, since he is the one helping me. I am on pain medications, which I don't like. I tried taking less and got dressed down over it so I am resolved to being high as a kite for a few more days (Oxycontin/Percoset). I also get to inject myself with heparin. Such fun times.
I am eating a healthy breakfast cookie for breakfast, frozen dinners for dinner and a variety of things for lunches. However, they drew blood just before i left hospital and I am quite anemic. I wasn't before the surgery -- and I didn't bleed too much but this has happened to me before -- the stress of surgery seems to depress my hemaglobin/red cell production. I did have a blood transfusion just after surgery and it got better temporarily. It isn't bad enough now to need another one but the problem is, my body cannot tolerate most kinds of iron and B vitamin supplements. He has some kind that doesn't go through the digestive system that he has ordered. Also, eating iron rich and B vitamin rich foods will help but many (not all) foods that are high in iron also are blood thinners and I can't eat any food that thins blood more since i am on the heparin.
So - suggestions, anyone?

It has been a really, really busy week and I haven't logged in at all. I have, however, done well with my eating and lost a little. I have not been able to exercise as much for physical reasons, but I'm trying.
Tuesday I will be going into the hospital for orthopedic surgery. I will be there for a minimum of 3 days. I'd appreciate prayers for an easy recovery.

Okay, not the *best* weekend, but not the worst either, considering anniversary dinner, husband's return and a lot of activity.
I have prepared for the week, though --
1)prepared several helping so the cottage cheese salad I like to eat for breakfast or lunch
2)cut up fresh veggies
3)splurged on fruit already cut up
4)read a couple of Spark articles before posting this and going to bed
5)set out my exercise stuff
Weigh tomorrow. Hoping I lost a tiny bit in spite of some lapses this weekend.
