Meeting with Personal Trainer tomorrow!

Friday, January 08, 2010

So I joined 24 HR Fitness in May of 2009, went to the gym religiously 3-4 times a week, for 1 to 2.5 hours a day, for 3 months. AND saw absolutely no weight loss.

Now, I'm used to going to the gym working out like a mad woman used to do 5 hours a day (crazy, I know, but I was bored), and would lose weight. So I was very surprised when after 3 months of being committed to exercising, and watching what I eat that I lost nothing, not a pound! The only thing I lost was my motivation to go to the gym.

Fast forward to now. I decided that I wanted to go back to the gym, and try a new routine. I received a free personal training certificate in the mail during the holidays and thought it would be a perfect opportunity.

My first session will be tomorrow. I have to say that I already have a bad feeling about the trainer, it took me 5 days to get in contact with him, I kept on getting one excuse to another form his coworkers on why he could not come to the phone to set up a personal training appt. ( I even went there in person). But we'll see how tomorrow goes, I'm going determined to make the best out of it and to learn a routine that can help me lose weight. If he does turn out to be ok I would like to do training sessions every week. It'll be expensive but I like the motivation of having someone there. So wish me luck! :-)

Do any of you guys go to a trainer? Or have any of you been to a trainer? What was/is your experience, was it good, bad, etc...

I'm hoping to start with a trainer in early spring. I'm no expert though keep a closer eye on your meals, they sound too delicious.

I'm a trainer in Westchester County NY and i agree with Lee's comments. There are tons of trainers around, so if the one you visted isn't connecting wtih you, try again and find one who does - it will make a world of difference! Good Luck!

    Hello,

I am a personal trainer and fitness instructor. Of course in reading your blog, I couldn't help but comment to hopefully give you some insight in things to look for:

First of all, with it taking you five days to contact the trainer sounds like the trainer is not serious about his profession. It should take no less than 24 hours to initiate 1st contact.

In addition, some things to look for when you train with him/her:

1. - Make sure that proper instruction is given prior, during, and after each exercise. You have to know WHY you doing what you're doing.
2. - Ensure that he understands your goals and has you and only YOU in mind when it comes to prescribing an exercise plan. Don't be afraid to ask him to recite your goals back to you to make sure he's listening.
3. - The trainer should be asking you engaging questions during your session(s) to ensure that he consistently has your needs in mind.

I wish you were in Chicago. I'd truly show you how the professional trainer should help his client(s).

I could write on and on, but these things should at the very least help you in deciding whether you want to start/continue the trainer/client relationship.

Lee

Things I realized this week

Friday, January 08, 2010

1. I need to drink more water during the day. I was actually drinking alot of water during my winter break, but once I went back to work, I went back to the habit of OJ and RedBulls.

2. The 25 cent granola bar that I love so much has 170 calories in it!!! Damn, I'm going to have to give that up or only eat it once or twice a week. :-(

3. People will believe anything you tell them, without having any sort of valid proof. And it's really a shame, because we should never stop questioning.

4. People will say things to hurt your feelings, and then not realize or even care that they said something hurtful.

Good you realized to get the water in and the granola bar is ok once in a while just not on the regular. And 3 and 4 your so right, how people are we should never stop thinking or considering what we say how it effects and can hurt others. Keep up your good work. emoticon emoticon emoticon
