this is a great article that talks about food addiction. it says when we just LOOK at pics of a chocolate milk shake it activates the brain's reward circuitry.

spark has such great articles. give them a try, especially this one.

one quote that really spoke to me from this study is this:

"We beat ourselves up in this society: 'This is my fault,'" Gearhardt said. "When we finally decided to see alcohol having the potential to cause an addictive process, we stopped blaming people and started helping people."

    It still isn't an excuse since we have MANY choices for food and people who claim to be addicted to food DON'T binge on steak, boiled eggs, broccoli, etc. Dr. Atkins talked about this in his book "The NEW Diet Revolution." He said to keep a dozen hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator when you wanted to binge and make yourself start eating them. He said that NO ONE would eat all 12 and the binge feeling would have time to pass. We don't binge on protein.

CANDIDA YEAST live on sugar, so I'd find out if a person who says they are addicted to food has been tested for it.

Rachael Heller, PhD and Richard Heller, PhD wrote "The Stress Eaters Cure" and they say the GLUTAMATE that is in our food is what is the problem. It is listed as "natural flavoring" but it is like MSG and it makes lab rats fat and they CRAVE more of the food. They recommend NOT eating processed food, but staying with eating "clean."

    i guess since i am addicted to something, i'd rather it be food.
i have such empathy for those who are addicted to alcohol and drugs that you shoot into your veins.

if they keep looking at food addiction as a disease, maybe they will find a cure???

    I read the article too and this is the part that really struck home with me--as I've always blamed a large part of "Globesity" on the advertising industry:

"What I see as a bigger concern is really our food environment. If you think of these cues as starting to trigger the problem, the worst environment you could possibly be in is the one we have," said Gearhardt. "All the billboards, all the vending machines. If you changed each of these into an alcohol cue and you were trying to recover from alcoholism, it would be impossible."

    I totally agree that over eating is an addiction with food and that many people have it. Unfortunately you can't just give up all food like you can alcohol and drugs.

    I read this article this morning and I caught it on the news today. I truly believe now that food can be addictive. For the first 3 weeks of my diet, I feel like I went through withdrawls. I couldn't understand and then I realized it was the same feelings that I had when I quit smoking.

This new version of the "footprints" story really caught me off guard at the end...What a blessing.. IT'S AWESOME!!!

Imagine you and the Lord Jesus are walking down the road together. For much of the way, the Lord's footprints go along steadily, consistently, rarely varying the pace.

But your footprints are a disorganized stream of zigzags, starts, stops, turnarounds, circles, departures, and returns. For much of the way, it seems to go like this, but gradually your footprints come more in line with the Lord's, soon paralleling, His consistently.

You and Jesus are walking as true friends!

This seems perfect, but then an interesting thing happens: Your footprints that once etched the sand next to Jesus' are now walking precisely in His steps.Inside His larger footprints are your smaller ones, you and Jesus are becoming one.

This goes on for many miles, but gradually you notice another change. The footprints inside the large footprints seem to grow larger.

Eventually they disappear altogether. There is only one set of footprints. They have become one.

This goes on for a long time, but suddenly the second set of footprints is back. This time it seems even worse! Zigzags all over the place. Stops. Starts. Gashes in the sand. A variable mess of prints.

You are amazed and shocked.Your dream ends. Now you pray: "Lord, I understand the first scene, with zigzags and fits. I was a new Christian; I was just learning. But You walked on through the storm and helped me learn to walk with You."

"That is correct."
"And when the smaller footprints were inside of Yours, I was actually learning to walk in Your steps, following You very closely."

"Very good. You have understood everything so far."
When the smaller footprints grew and filled in Yours, I suppose that I was becoming like You in every way."

"So, Lord, was there a regression or something? The footprints separated, and this time it was worse than at first."

There is a pause as the Lord answers, with a smile in His voice.
"You didn't know? It was then that we danced

    i bought my trekking poles at tuesday morning for a huge savings.

i did take them to europe - 7 countries - and enjoyed them sooo much. i could not have done ALLLLL of that 'trekking' without those poles.

there were several ppl sitting down catching their breath who wanted to know where i got them.

i don't think you have to buy ones that cost a mint. they collapsed and fit right in the suitcase.

    Fantastic! I have a friend on here--BevAnne...(she's a Blue Sapphire Beauty too) who absolutely swears by her walking poles. I've been meaning to look into buying some of them.

Hey All,

I read the spark article today that told me I am probably an ENDOMORPH...pear shaped, and will probably still be even when I lose weight and get fit.

That my body "seems to pull calories out of thin air, and deposit fat on my hips". I agree 100%. My younger sis weighs 70 pounds less than i do and eats twice as much food. If you ask her she will say this is true.

But she is up moving a lot of the time and I like to do my exercise , get it out of the way, and sit down for most of the rest of the day.

Like the Spark Fly Lady challenge suggests, I am back to setting my timer several times a day for 45 minutes and then get up and do SOMETHING - clean house, yard work, etc. for just 15 minutes.

I already KNEW all of this, but it helps to be reminded from time to remember, it's not me failing to lose 5 pounds a week, it's my body type wanting me to get up and move and eat healthy.

Today I read a Spark article that said when we stress over our plans to lose weight like when we exercise like crazy and drink all that water, try to stay within our calorie range ,,,but we still don't lose weight....

that stress causes us to pump up the brown fat in our belly area.

so....i am going to make me a vision board to help me stress less on my way to healthy weight loss.

    I'll go and look for that article,,,,I NEED it cos I have been stressinggggg it out. Esp the water drinking cos I do NOT like water !!!!!!!!!! I am forcing myself to drink the 8 glasses though I didn't this weekend and enjoyed myself MUCH better ! I still got water in though. I need to see if really NEED to get in the 8 glasses EVERY day. I have eased back on myself if I don't do the excerise it's Ok and its becoming fun again. TY I'll join, I need this to be fun.

    I am working on a new one. Bought a bulletin board and everything for this one, because my first one didn't have the "reality" in it. It was all wishful thinking. Now, it is becoming real, so I need to really focus. Right there with you!
