Thursday, January 13, 2011

hey all

i think i have the exercising and drinking water part down,

what i continually work on is the eating. i love carbs. the bad ones, sugar, desserts, chocolate, etc.

i love the low carb way to eat, but just can only keep to it for so long.

and i reallllllly want to lose some weight.

and i realllllly want to keep it off when i lose it.

does anyone have any mojo that can help?

I would look for a clean eating plan that is not extremely low in carbs. Something that is reasonable and doesn't eliminate or greatly reduce any of the major food groups and allows you to consume at least 1,200 calories a day.

I'm with everyone here. Unless you have a medical necessity for low carb, it just is difficult to sustain. Try switching your carbs to all whole grain. Go visit a Whole Foods if you have one or I think Trader Joe's has similar products. We have learned to love brown rice pasta and brown rice and couscous instead of all the starchy stuff I used to use. I use almost only wraps now instead of bread (though I let myself have the Sara Lee Delightful Whole Grain which is only 45 calories a slice and it's fine if you toast it first...otherwise it has no substance at all! lol)
I think with a calorie limit, trying to spread your carbs out between all meals and switching to whole grains you'll notice a big difference in how you feel about carbs!
Good luck.

I am not low carbing, but limited carbs. When I am eating more and filling foods, and not skipping mealtimes, I am much more likely to avoid the chocolate. Yesterday, was one of my first non choc days, even though in was right in front of me on several occasions. I am proud of myself!

I also agree with everyone else. I did the low carb and loved it, but found it wasn't a total lifestyle change I could live with. I love fruit too much and had a hard time with things like carrots being bad for me?? So, I incorporate the good ones in and just try to watch them. I now know that I don't like pasta anymore unless it is whole wheat!

I agree with terrij_1, I have tried the no carb thing and lost well but I still craved them and eventually gained it all back. I have been eating a balanced diet with lots of fruit & veggies and low fat no white flour and sugar . Drinking lots of water fills me up and I no longer crave the bad carbs as much as before. Once in a while I have a favorite treat and it satisfies me. emoticon

I was doing the low carb diet and found I still had those cravings. I found doing a balanced diet including carbs. Helped my cravings dissapear. I also found eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies keep me full and my sugar level from dropping.

    thanks di!!!

this sounds really great. i always think of colorado when i think of going skiing, but this looks great.

as i said in chitchat today, i have europe scheduled first. i try not to be an alarmist, but i think if i am going to europe, this needs to be the year. then if bad things happen in the world, i can always stay and see america and i think skiing in park city would be a great idea.

thanks for sending that. i had a great morning looking at all the ski lodges and hotels. i think i will start staying at the marriott to start earning points for free rooms - not like i am on the go all of the time - hahaha

and you could come and we could meet and sip hot toddies around the fire as we watch the skiers slip and slid - hahaha

do you ever ski? does your family?

thanks so much for this little mental journey.

Come to UTAH! Salt Lake City is surrounded by ski areas...they're beautiful...and you could come and visit me because I'm only 70 miles away from SLC (only about 50 miles from Park City, where the Olympics were)
If you really ever think of coming this way....I'm happy to give you more info.

Agreed! And I know we can keep it up! It's always best to have a positive attitude - especially in the winter months when we can get the "blahs."

Cheers!

HA! My great grandmother was Abe Lincoln's cousin( who knows how many generations behind) but somebody sent her a contract one time wanting to put her name in a book about Abe Lincoln's genealogy. Thanks for the goodie, and happy new year to you. How's school BTW?

Hustle, huh? Does that mean that Lincoln invented disco?

Thanks for sharing the quote. Most of my life I have settled for what came my way--if that was what the universe decided to send me, I should be satisfied with it. I'm starting to question that belief, though.

Glad your holiday season is going well. Hope it continues for a long, long while!
