I DON'T HATE VEGGIES AFTER ALL

SINCE BEING ON THE SPAR DIET, I HAVE NOT BEEN EATING BEANS AND CORN, MY NORMAL SOUTHERN VEGGIES. I CONVINCED MYSELF THAT I DIDN'T LIKE THEM ANYMORE. AND I SO WANTED TO PUT A CHECK MARK IN THE VEGGIE BOX.

AHA! I REALIZED THAT I STILL LOVE ALL KINDS OF BEANS AND CORN. WHAT I DON'T LIKE IS THE CALORIES OF THESE VEGGIES.

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GREEN BEANS, MOST ALL TYPES OF BEANS HAVE AROUND 210 TO 280 CALORIES PER CUP. AND WHO IS GOING TO EAT JUST BEANS? YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE MASHED POTATOES AND CORN BREAD WITH THEM.

INSTEAD, I HAVE BEEN EATING SANDWICHES. YOU CAN HAVE THE LOW CAL 2 SLICES OF WHOLE GRAIN BREAD FOR 70 CALS., ALL THE LETTUCE YOU WANT, MUSTARD FOR 3 CALS., AND 4 SLI. OF DELI SLICES LF HAM FOR 170. THAT IS ABOUT 244 CALS. ABOUT THE SAME AS A CUP OF BEANS.

SO, I DO STILL LIKE BEANS AND CORN. I JUST DON'T LIKE THE CALORIES.

I REALLY TRY NOT TO WRITE ABOUT NEGATIVE THINGS, THE WORLD HAS ENOUGH.
I TRY TO BE POSITIVE AND UPLIFTING.

BUT LAST NIGHT I GOT TO THINKING ABOUT THE ECONOMY AND GLOBAL CONDITIONS AND THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT.

THEN I GOT TO THINKING ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE ECONOMY COLLAPSING SOON AND WE WOULD GO BACK TO DEPRESSION TIMES LIKE IN THE 1920'S.

THEN I GOT TO THINKING ABOUT LONG LINES IN THE GROCERY STORE WAITING FOR FOOD TO ARRIVE ON THE SHELVES.

THEN I GOT TO THINKING ABOUT MYSELF AND MY HAPPINESS. IF IT GETS BAD, THEY ARE NOT GONNA HAVE THE GOOOOOOD STUFF LIKE LITTLE DEBBIES AND CHIPS AND COKE AND ALL THOSE THINGS I AM REALLY USING IN GREAT MODERATION RIGHT NOW.

AND IF ALL OF MY "FOOD FRIENDS" ARE GOING TO GO AWAY, WHY DON'T I JUST GO AHEAD AN ENJOY THEM IN ABUNDANCE NOW!!!!! SO I DID!!!!!

BUT, IN THE LIGHT OF MORNING, I'M GETTING BACK IN BALANCE.

I CAN CONTINUE TO HAVE MY "FOOD FRIENDS" AND ENJOY THEM TO THE FULLEST, I JUST DON'T HAVE TO GO CRAZY WITH IT.


DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THESE FEARS OR AM I THE ONLY ONE?

I WORKED REALLY HARD AND ONLY LOST ONE POUND BUT MY FANTASTIC PERIWINKLES SPARK TEAM MEMBERS ENCOURAGED ME TO GO AHEAD AND REWARD MYSELF WITH A PEDICURE AND I AM SOOOO GLAD THAT I DID.

WHO KNEW THAT ONE LITTLE POUND COULD MAKE YOU FEEL SOOO GOOD???

B - HOW OFTEN DO YOU GIVE YOURSELF REWARDS - 2 - 5 - 10 POUNDS?

    I was thinking about adding that in. I really have't done that. But I do agree with June that is a big reward when your clothes are too big. Another great reward is making someone else's day on spark.

    I've got to get better about rewards. I like pedicures, especially in the summer when my toes are showing more. Facials or massages are good too. And purses/wristlets or shoes are always good. It's fun to be able to try on smaller sizes as well, just to see how I'm doing -- occasionally something will have to come home with me, just because. And when I finally reach goal, it's diamond earrings for me!

    I had made a contract with myself back in June (but didn't really put it into effect until August 16th) - anyway in that contract I put that I'll place $5 for every 5 pounds lost into a "YOU ROCK" piggy bank and I can use that money whenever I want, for whatever I want. So...right now, there's $10 in that bank and I'm not sure what I'll end up using it for...make-up, new clothes or shoes, magazine subscription, workout DVD or equipment...the options are endless. :)

WORK OUTS

ANOTHER THING I AM GOING TO DO SO THAT MY LOVELY BONES WON'T HURT SO MUCH, IS TO DIVIDE MY WORKOUTS IN TO SMALLER INCREMENTS THROUGH OUT THE DAY. I THINK MY BODY WILL APPRECIATE THAT.
