August and September - get lean and healthy

Thursday, August 02, 2012

I must take care of me. I am finally back down to new Year's Day weight so am ready to loose this year's pounds ... so I'm fine-tuning June's goals for the next two months and getting ready for October vacation trip to see family.

1. Pray for MY OWN health FIRST thing each morning. This discipline comes hard for me after always putting others first, but I have improved greatly the last two months so will continue to leave it as #1
2. READ scripture for this purpose: a lovely new devotional LOVE OUT LOUD by Joyce Meyer, regular Bible reading - I have started the Gospel of John. Continue to find special phrase of verse to fit the day and meditate on it!!
3.Measuring and weighing food frequently enough to know exactly how much I am eating - but will back away from tracking every item of food - just counting per tally: water, tea, fruit, veggies, protein serving's [fruits and veggies must be 75 gm in order to count as one!
4.Weighing and measuring body every Saturday for public record and weigh daily- I still find measuring a challenge - but consistent with weighing
5.Got a new pedometer and wearing it 7 out of 7 days - push self to fibro limits
6. Use the sitting NEW Elliptical ... Minimum of 10 minutes...have failed this area but going to leave the goal on there and see if I learn that discipline.
7. Study anti-inflammatory foods for self and DH health issues
8.NEW***use a timer and spend 15-30 minutes daily enjoying photo collection in order for me to nourish and feed the creative side of me that has been starving. I need this joy, praise and fun for myself to be at peace.

Pray for and with me.

Great goals Linda. I especially love the time looking at photo's. If we feed our spirits and our creative side then we often have more to give. God was 1st a creator and made in his image we need to remember that we to are to be creative as well. I love the phrase exercising to my fibro limits!!! You can do it!! Hugs Barb

All looks very doable. I wear my pedometer 7 days a week. Sometimes can be hard on Sunday. This is the only way I can know I am getting enough steps. It is amazing how many days I only have about 2,000 steps. I just wish I had something to measure my pool steps.

I like your goals they look very doable. You have been successful in losing weight before so I know you can brush yourself off and go from there. Good luck with your journey!

Very similar to June's goals. It's good to remind yourself about them, and to re-commit to doing them.

Don't beat yourself up if you "fall off the wagon" and miss a day or so. Instead, "dust yourself off" and "get back on" the wagon. That's a much more productive than abandoning your "journey", and allowing the wagon to go on without you. It'll be much easier, too, to get to your "destination" if you stay on the "wagon" than if you try to walk the whole way.

In fact, most people who "fall off the wagon" and don't get back on, just choose to abandon the "journey" altogether, even though they often expect to begin it again. It's much easier, though, to get back on the wagon than to allow it to go ahead without you. Because, then you have to find a new wagon to travel on, and it's harder to start over than to pick yourself up and continue on.

June = Concentrate on ME

Friday, June 01, 2012

June is Concentrate and Consecrate My Effort for ME month.

Weight has climbed back up a few notches and have been stressing so much with DH health issues...I must take care of me too or I won't be any good in caring for his needs. Soooo here I go......

1. Pray for MY OWN health FIRST thing each morning.
2. READ scripture for this purpose [was gifted a lovely new devotional LOVE OUT LOUD by Joyce Meyer] in addition to regular Bible reading.
3..Measuring and weighing every morsel first two weeks
4.Weighing and measuring body every Saturday for public record and weigh daily
5.Got a new pedometer and wearing it 6 out of 7 days - push self to fibro limits
6. Use the sitting NEW Elliptical ... Minimum of 10 minutes each day first week.
7. Study anti-inflammatory foods for self and DH health issues

Pray for and with me.

Dogs go to heaven...across the rainbow bridge... a painting

Saturday, April 21, 2012

"All Dogs Go To Heaven" by Jim Warren
A dear friend of mine recently lost her precious dog companion of 15 years and has grieved tremendously. She is beginning to move forward and sharing her love for animals by working with a local animal shelter - walking the dogs and cleaning their kennels - the physical needs of a shelter. She shared this beautiful painting on her facebook page and called it the rainbow bridge picture. I thought it might help others in their grief of the death of a treasured dog. God bless and comfort you each and every one as you find your way through your own times of grief. ~Linda 49 in WA
Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth
It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills, valleys with lush green grass

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this special place
There is always food and water and warm spring weather

The old and frail are young again
Those who are maimed are made whole again

They play all day with each other
There is only one thing missing

They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth
So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up !

The nose twitches !
The ears are up !
The eyes are staring !
And this one suddenly runs from the group !

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him or her into your arms and embrace
your face is kissed again and again,
and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated

Linda, how beautiful. I have a dog that has 3 legs. He also suffers from seizures. He is on medication 2x a day for it but some seizures still slip through. Wouldn't trade him for the world though. This is simply beautiful. And the picture.. oh, how precious. Thank you for sharing.. Donna

And you know how special our little dog Riley is to us. She was our son's dog and he loved her so completely that she was on his lap when he died. I hate to think of the day she leaves us to join him in heaven. Riley visited my dear husband when he was in the hospital. It really perked up his spirits. Those animals really have a special place in our lives. Thank you for sharing!

I know about the Rainbow Bridge. In the past two years, I have had to part with 5 dogs, 4 of whom died, and one was actually my son's that I had been keeping and he went to live with another son.

I have also had to part with 3 cats.

I certainly look forward to seeing them and pets of my long past when I get to heaven!

Lent and Low Carb - end of 40 days

Monday, April 09, 2012

Dear friends, I dropped the ball as far as the blogging is concerned. I am just not one to write something for publication every day for that long of a period of time.

LENT was special to me this year and different that the last 30+ years of my life in that there were no children in our home and no teaching on a child-level [since I retired from day-care and our children are adults with no grand children in site] I did share many of my materials with a young mother in our church fellowship that was blessed and shared them with her children and Sunday school class. but it was very different from hands on, teaching to heart-centered study for myself and adult relationship to the story of the death and resurrection of my Saviour. Readings were good and next year I think I will return to many more decorations and active participation in traditions and meanings in our home.

I did continue my monitoring of carbs carefully and will continue to monitor them through a lifetime - that is something the 40 day personal challenge is good for - it develops good habits and trains you in a specific area of life. I am convinced that controlling of carbs is good for my health and though I will not maintain them as low as i originally though, I will always be aware of carbs, aim at total of less than 110 and net carbs or used carbs near 70 per day. I know that I will go over that many days but I see that as good healthy goal for me at this weight and activity level and acceptability with my lifestyle and family structure.

I am interested in what your diet is. I mean I have done low carb and felt bad on it but I think my carbs were too low...but I really believe that the concept of being low carb is basically a healthy one if it is not too restrictive. I'd appreciate any info or advice you can share.
Hugs,
Sarah

I am also working on my carb intake. I know I need better glucose readings and this will take care of it and I have gone to realize that healthy eating could be low carb and still get in enough calories.

I have a delicious different breakfast today. I tore up three different kins of lettuce, probably 3 cups, it filled my 9 inch plate, I sprinkled 1 T. shredded mozzerlla cheese over the top, then I add left over ground chuck 3 oz and 1/3 cup prego, in the middle leaving an inch of lettuce along the edge, I topped with 1T red pepper dressing and 1 T balsamic vinaigrette, for under 20 carbs.
