Lent and Low Carb - end of 40 days

Monday, April 09, 2012

Dear friends, I dropped the ball as far as the blogging is concerned. I am just not one to write something for publication every day for that long of a period of time.

LENT was special to me this year and different that the last 30+ years of my life in that there were no children in our home and no teaching on a child-level [since I retired from day-care and our children are adults with no grand children in site] I did share many of my materials with a young mother in our church fellowship that was blessed and shared them with her children and Sunday school class. but it was very different from hands on, teaching to heart-centered study for myself and adult relationship to the story of the death and resurrection of my Saviour. Readings were good and next year I think I will return to many more decorations and active participation in traditions and meanings in our home.

I did continue my monitoring of carbs carefully and will continue to monitor them through a lifetime - that is something the 40 day personal challenge is good for - it develops good habits and trains you in a specific area of life. I am convinced that controlling of carbs is good for my health and though I will not maintain them as low as i originally though, I will always be aware of carbs, aim at total of less than 110 and net carbs or used carbs near 70 per day. I know that I will go over that many days but I see that as good healthy goal for me at this weight and activity level and acceptability with my lifestyle and family structure.

I am interested in what your diet is. I mean I have done low carb and felt bad on it but I think my carbs were too low...but I really believe that the concept of being low carb is basically a healthy one if it is not too restrictive. I'd appreciate any info or advice you can share.

I am also working on my carb intake. I know I need better glucose readings and this will take care of it and I have gone to realize that healthy eating could be low carb and still get in enough calories.

I have a delicious different breakfast today. I tore up three different kins of lettuce, probably 3 cups, it filled my 9 inch plate, I sprinkled 1 T. shredded mozzerlla cheese over the top, then I add left over ground chuck 3 oz and 1/3 cup prego, in the middle leaving an inch of lettuce along the edge, I topped with 1T red pepper dressing and 1 T balsamic vinaigrette, for under 20 carbs.

    Enjoyed your blog.
I love carbs, bread in particular, so know just how difficult avoiding it can be.

My new sit-down-elliptical

Tuesday, April 03, 2012

My new exercise - a sit down and do the elliptical - also hoping to build up strength so I can put a chair in front of it and hold on to the back of the chair and "walk" with it - Pray for me to be consistent and to build up to real exercise without fibro-flares.

You know me, I love a good plan!

I went on line to see what it was, but of course there were lots of different styles. Sounds like one should burn lots of calories using it and it doesn't take up a lot of space. I wish I had room for some equipment.

Lent and Low Carb Day 27,28 and Sunday

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Lent Looking forward to Easter and the new birth of things around me - baby calves frolicking in the pasture across the highway, crocus and daffodils blooming in friends yard, lambs on pasture n way to church this morning, facebook pic of new baby horse for another friend - I love this season!! And of course the new born baby at church ...sat tight behind me and made those precious little tiny baby sounds... I love it!!
Low Carb - well 70 seems to be my number of toleration in "normal foods" - going to have to really push to get that net carbs lower without using supplements or special drinks or something totally new in my way of living - DH is resisting the change in my foods because he doesn't want to eat "the good stuff in front of me" ... hmmm, more learning to do here!

Boy, but it takes a lot of work to keep the carbs low. I am only doing good about 1/2 the time. I had hoped it would help the weight come off, but I am really not seeing any difference.

Lent and Low CARB Days 23-26

Friday, March 23, 2012

Lent - I continue to be blessed with readings and last night began to plan and anticipate a special celebration of Easter on the Wednesday between Palm Sunday and Easter with my senior couple's Bible study group. This is such a different Lent season - the first one in 32 years with no little people in the house is really weird!!! i miss the simple teaching fun things we always did. And haven't decorated a bit - will be gone next week so not interested in decorating much now.

Low Carbing is going well - But forcing me to plan my day's food ahead of time more that I ever have before - it is so different than just counting the calories and checking mid day and adjusting - If I blow too many CARBS on breakfast I really have to sacrifice through the rest of the day ... Protein #s are a bit high but I think I am doing OK - and keeping the net CARBS at 70 or less per this 10 day goal.

I can't imagine keeping Net Carbs under 60 for a lifestyle but day by day I am learning,

Day 22 and Sunday#4 of Lent

Monday, March 19, 2012

Lent, I am being so blessed with my daily Bible readings - not really geared specifically to Lent as I had planned but nurturing and encouraging my daily walk in the Faith. I missed our service this morning because it was my Sunday to help in the nursery [once per quarter] but that was such a blessed time of snuggling a 2 month old little guy for over an hour was wonderful!!

Low Carb efforts are getting easier . i am also getting calories lowered - possibly too low but will see how the next week balances out.

How lucky your church is to have you help in the nursery! Congratulations on your Lent and Low Carb journaling!

For Lent I haven't specifically gone low carb, but I did give up bread, alcohol and chocolate (which are probably about 50% of my carbs or more), and it has been so instructive.

Have a lovely day and may the rest of your Lenten journey be filled with Christ's love and guidance.
