Jenny-the gal we love to hate!

Friday, March 05, 2010

It has been just a little over two months since I started working with Wii Your Shape. It has a few foibles like not always being able to "see" what you're doing so Jenny begins to yell--oh! your arms! But I have to say, it has gotten me to do more "exercise" than I have in years! I am active, but not in an exercise sort of way which helps strengthen and keeps cardio building during long Wisconsin winters when my bike is parked for months. Even if I only do 15 minutes, I do not miss more than 2 days a week. For me this is a wonderful feeling. I had not done jumping jacks for I don't know how long. I am now able to do almost the entire set. And the Plank! oh, don't know if I'll ever be able to hold as long as she does, but when I started I could only do a few seconds!

So...on good days I just yell right back at her and feel "the burn"! Sometimes she just cracks me up! When she repeats things I can't do I just keep remembering those that I NOW can do! And who else can I yell at who won't take it personally! Spring is coming and I'm looking forward to getting outside. Will I still meet with Jenny? I have a feeling I will!

LOL Linda, you're so funny! On another note, it is so fabulous that you've found something that gets you up and moving on a consistent basis! How proud of yourself you must be! Me? Well, let's just say I still need to "trick" myself into exercising consistently. Maybe one of these days I'll check out Jenny.

Housecleaning excercise!

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

I've been trying to make sure to start most days with some yoga because it always makes me feel good. But yesterday I knew I ran a lot of stairs because it was laundry day plus I walk a few laps around the basement in between loads. Today I did some good vacuming and detail cleaning like fridge coils and cob webs. Not only did I get tired and hot but it looks great! It made me feel good and I realized it was good excercise! Hmmmm maybe I need to do this more often! emoticon

Oh cleaning can be some great exercise. It's great to multi-task too without feeling like you have to try hard!! I have a chart that says a 130 pound woman would burn 55.5 calories for every 15 minutes of cleaning. You burn 5% more calories for every 7 pounds over 130 pounds. Oh, I just saw that mowing the lawn is 99 calories per 15 minutes. I think I'll take that job from now on this summer!!

I'm sure there must be someplace to find calories burned, or at least some kind of average since we all work at a different pace. The app on my iPod says 30 minutes of house cleaning burns 124. Doesn't seem like enough for the way I was going!! But it still felt good!

I never thought about that, cleaning being exercise. What a good point. I wonder if there is a website that can tell you calories burned with housework?

I think you can get a good workout cleaning, and you are right, the house looks so much better!

I like playing quick moving music when I clean and loud. that gets me dancing a little and I have a bit more fun cleaning. Keep up the good work.

I'm new to SparkPeople

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Ok...I've tried lots of diets like all of us. I've paid big money for some. Sure they work--for awhile. I know I need life changes not a new diet and this looks like a place I might be able keep my motivation and not throw more money away on a temporary fix. I find the food diary a bit hard/slow to use so I'm going to keep using the one on my iPod.

Looking for any help to keep my focus and not keep running to the food without thinking!

Wow! Thank you EVERYONE for the comments and encouragment! I was surprised you all read it already! My first day went pretty well....just taking it one day at a time. And since you all have noticed me I guess I better get off the computer and do my yoga. Ok, and drink a glass of water!

Food diary/nutrition tracker is terrific once you get things loaded into your favourites -- and also the food grouping feature speeds things up (e.g. put in all the ingredients for a typical breakfast, or salad).

Welcome! I hope you enjoy SparkPeople; there is a lot of support and terrific resources!

HI I just recently got started too. Good luck. I found that logging and recording your food is the first great step. I have been more consistent with that. Now it's getting on that exercise track. I am having trouble after 12 shifts and fatigue, but will get going. Good luck and enjoy. emoticon

Glad to have you in the family. We are all one big happy family that supports one another. Congratulations on the decision to make this a life change and not another diet. There are plenty of diets and they don't last nor does their results. You make a lifetime change and keep to it, it keeps with you forever, along with the results!

Doing great....a lot of us call our eating now..."mindful eating" because most of us got here for a reason and you stated the obvious for nearly all of us....it doesn't really matter where you track your food, just keep tracking it....it's whatever works for you that you can keep up with...good for you in finding just that!
