Tour de Safford

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

On the 29th of October I competed in the Tour de Safford, the 66 mile race. The morning started off a little cool but it warmed up nicely by 9:15, when the 66 miler started.

I started well but 3 miles in to the race I had a flat. It was a relatively tough field of riders and I am not a great tire changer, but I got the tire changed and with the help of local law enforcement, I soon caught some riders. After passing several riders I was not as embarrassed but I was slightly depressed with the fact that I was no longer in the running to win. I smiled and decided that I would set out to finish faster than I did last year. No small feat as I was 32 minutes behind schedule (NO, all of that time was not spent changing a tire), I got caught up in vehicular traffic at a couple of intersections.

The wind was a steady 10 mph out of the East and the temperature never got over 72 while I was riding. This allowed me to really push and I ended up averaging 18.4 miles per hour for the ride. I was seventh among the female riders and felt that I did all right. I finished ten minutes faster than I did last year and crossed the finish line just a couple of minutes behind three other riders from Silver City that did the 100 miler. They started 2 hours before I did.

It was a great race and one that I will register to do again next year. The proceeds go towards buying new equipment for the local hospital in Safford. The volunteers for the race are numerous, supportive, friendly and very helpful. Tour de Safford is a real treat!

Racing, Haircuts, Storm Clouds....

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

The weather here in Southwestern New Mexico is wonderful but extremely strange! I still have tomatoes on the vine and the vines are still blooming. It usually snows on Halloween...but I thinking not this year. I am not complaining but.....

Went on a long ride this last Sunday and there is some fall foliage but my camera on my cell phone (which takes wonderful pics) says the pictures I took...three of them all exceeded the maximum file size so I can't send them to the computer to put on this page. I am bummed. I have some great yellow and orange foliage as well as some outstanding late season wildflowers. Oh well!

I am bike racing this weekend in Safford Arizona. A 66 miler that I did and enjoyed immensely last year. The weather should be great, I feel great and I am looking forward to saddle time and not having to think about much but pedalling.

Spanky got a new haircut. Here is is looking gorgeous, handsome, etc. My daughter is holding him and she's not too bad looking herself.

Here are some pictures of the last little misty storm that came by. Some neat clouds and you can see the misty rain on the mountains.

Keep smiling, be safe, and have a good day. Remember if you feel too rushed..."For peace of mind, resign as general manager of the universe."

Spanky is just too cute. It's more than time for me to get my fluffies groomed - their hind hair is out of control.

A 66 mile bike ride? You're a strong woman! emoticon

Been Too Long Friends...

Thursday, September 29, 2011

It has definitely been a while, too long since I have written a blog. I am so busy that it is a real chore to keep everything organized enough to keep training. I am bike racing this weekend and I can hardly wait!

A friend called me the other day and we did a little reminiscing and the following is just too cute! Enjoy my friends.

We pick all our friends. Who said we have to look like them? Here's hoping we can all get along. I am rooting for everyone, even if I don't have time to tell you I am.

Beauty and the Beast

Friday, September 09, 2011

This morning my world awoke with a grumble. My son is moving to Arizona to start a new career, so I was not in a great mood. Next, I had planned to ride my bike to work but.............

the beauty gave way to the beast and it became too damp to ride. I guess as I get older I get sweeter and afraid I will melt in rainwater. LOL

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Our daughter moved and our son did too. Our son moved back home and lives with us, he will be 30 next week. It has been a good move for him and for us. He is paying off some of his debts and helps us with our bills and work that has to be done.

Our daughter is coming in this week to get her Masters degree and we have a trip planned to go to Vermont to watch her receive her degree.

I cried for about 3 days when she first left, but I know she will visit and that she is an adult wanting to live her own life.

Have a good day today.

If he's like most kids he'll be back and forth as the years go by. Hard to see them leave but about the time you get used to it they come great pictures. Storm clouds come and go....and the sun returns and so it will. I see you joined the lighter side team but haven't see you on their yet. Take it easy Pat. All in life changes and yet stays the same. Love only grows when it comes to our kids.

Big Changes and No Swimming

Saturday, August 27, 2011

The outdoor pool is closing today. They have been open for lap swimming but since school has started, I have not been available at the pools open hours. I have resigned to the fact that I can't compete in Triathlon at the moment because the pool at WNMU is also closed for repairs and may be for ever! I have not panicked yet but it is getting close!

In recent weeks I have turned to riding, my brand of jogging and lifting weights. I have not lost any weight but my clothes for the most part fit better. I have trouble with the arms and sleeves on female blouses...I think they are made for women with "thin" arms. I wear an extra-large because I have "guns" (bulging biceps) and I am proud of them. They are large, and hard as are the majority of the rest of the muscles I possess.

I have been having a lot of hip problems and I go to the chiropractor once or twice a week. I am getting much better. I went yesterday and the chiropractor told me he enjoys working on me because I feel "firm" or toned. He had a tough time explaining what he meant and ended up telling me that I just do not feel like most women he gets to work on. I thanked him and he quit blushing and so did I by the time I got home.

This morning my husband and I went to the Farmer's Market to get fresh veggies for the week. My older first grade teacher and family friend gave me a big hug, then stood back looked at me and stated I must be working out. I "feel" so firm and look good! I said thank you and told her I have been lifting hard for several weeks. It must be making a difference!

Every morning when I go to the gym I do thirty minutes of cardio (bike or arc machine) and then I do either an upper body or lower body workout. I use free weights on the upper body and a leg press machine, hamstring machine and bands on the lower body. I also use an arm machine with pulleys on the upper body. I have looked over my body since arriving home this morning and I am happy. can definitely tell that I am pumping iron, and I LIKE THAT!

I don't think I am up to taking a picture yet.....but I might. Have a great weekend and ask me if you are interested in my workout. I will share if asked. emoticon emoticon

Yay for getting toned! Keep up the amazing job.

I'm sorry about your pool situation. I noticed around here that city pools are closing down faster and more frequently due to budget cuts. :(

I was wondering what you were going to do about your swimming since I heard the WNMU pool had closed. That's too bad. It really makes it hard for people like you and the swim team and others who had depended on it for training. Hopefully they'll find the resources and be able to get it fixed soon.
Congratulations on the super muscles!!
