Today concluded the 2011 addition of the Tour of the Gila. The Citizens race today started at Camp Thunderbird on the Mimbres. The race concluded at Pinos Altos, New Mexico...thirty three miles later. The race started in thirty-two degree, calm weather and ended in the mid 50's with a breeze. All in all not a bad day weather-wise.
Yesterday, the criterium took place in downtown Silver City. Fans got to watch all of the professional racers as well as a citizens race and a race for just about every age group imaginable for children. I had a VERY good sprint race! I was the only female that decided to participate so I had to ride with the males ages 35+. I was the first place female and the 3rd place male. I managed to beat 5 male riders..so it was a great race.
Todays race, well sometimes you have good days, sometimes you have bad days, and then there are days such as mine today. I finished the race. I was not last nor was I first. Four miles into the race my hips began bothering me again. The muscles in my lower back, butt and legs proceeded to get so tight that I was extremely miserable. I kinda didn't know whether to ride, quit, cry, curse, etc. I did everything but quit.
So tonight, I am sitting on a heating pad. I have bruises down both legs where the muscles tightened up and I have a great picture to share of this years Tour of the Gila bike jersey as well as the handmade bowl and the gold medal I won at the downtown criterium. Yup, had a good time, but I have had better. There is always next year!
