The Sky Was A Different Color.........

Sunday, March 06, 2011

I went on a long bike ride today. The weather was absolutely different! It was incredibly calm, a little cool, and the sky certainly was not blue....but I went just the same!

This picture shows the sky when I started out on the ride. Looks kind of angry.

When I got ready and turned around to come home, the sky was lightening up and the sun was even beginning to shine throught the light cloud cover.
I turned around at "Brocolli" Tree. This tree is 28 miles from my house. If you look closely at the old Juniper...it really does look like a big sprig of brocolli.

So, I turned around by the tree and came home. It was a lovely day. My legs are screaming but I think they will be okay to go running tomorrow!

Hope your day was as wonderful as mine was!

Long Walk

Saturday, March 05, 2011

The"Three Dogateers"..Spanky, Cisco, and Weena and myself went on a long walk this morning before the wind really started to howl. We walked along some trails on Boston Hill, once the site of a Manganese mine. My grandfather was the foreman of the mine during the Depression, having left Oklahoma with his family (my mom) in tow. Enjoy the walk. The dogs and I did!

Nothing but blue skies, do I see............

Yup just over this last rise and we will have walked 11 miles all told. Course we had to stop and have a drink and a snack..."Yam Goodies" for the pups and a Clif Bar for me. You can see from the rock and foliage that this is a wonderful place to see foxes. As summer arrives, I will not walk in this area because of the number of rabid foxes usually seen in the area. Last summer it was a huge problem so this year there will not be as many in the area.
The grasses are doing real well. The tall walking cacti are thriving and will bloom soon. The low-growing prikle pear cacti are suffering from a virus carried by javalina and many have died out. Many more will soon be growing.
Hope you enjoyed my walk and I hope you have a safe, fun and active weekend! Off to nap.

Yikes! DOn't think I'd want to encounter a rabid fox either.

Looks like Spring Break is going great so far! YAY!

I like to go to that area sometimes too. Right on the edge of town but you can feel like you're far away. However I will also stay away during the summer when the rabid foxes are out. Glad you enjoyed your day.

Almost Spring Break..........

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

The weather is superb, the kids are toads, the teachers are cranky and in just 1.5 days I will have a glorious 9 days off to do nothing but what I want to do! The bike is prepared to go and I am planning little forty and fifty mile day rides. I want to go on a couple of hikes and extended walks with the dogs. The pool at the college will be closed for 11 days and this is not good but I will just have to live with it.
COME ON WEATHER...........P L E A S E stay nice. I'll give ya a cookie!

Good night all!

Here's hoping for the weather to stay nice (or in our case...get nice - it's 0 right now...brrrrrrrr) but the real thought here is: You bike 40 and 50 miles a day? That's incredible!!! Have a great vaca!!

Great Sunday!

Monday, February 28, 2011

No, I don't mean weather-wise. The wind was blowing 60 to 80 miles an hour. It blew so hard that it picked up my dog run....8ft by 12ft by 6ft. chain link and moved it about 20 foot across the yard and dumped in into the trees. So glad my 3 musketeers: Spanky, Weena and Cisco were not in it!

Early morning in the blizzard, I went shopping and then went and picked up my daughter. We spent the whole day cooking different soups, chicken and some other stuff. I won't have to cook all week. Most helpful because my son goes to work at 4:30am, gets home at 2pm. I leave at 4am and usually manage to get home around 8:30 or 9pm...just in time to go to bed.

This is a picture of my daughter, her boyfriend, Spanky and Cisco in my buddy Tina's private warm water pool. The two of us actually ended up doing a new workout video that I received from Womens Health. Now, I am certainly not into step aerobics because it usually makes my knees hurt. And yes I am old-school and don't feel like I have done anything until I have sweat pouring off of me and my clothes are wringing wet, but we really got into it. We laughed, cried, looked like dorks, laughed some more and both had a little soreness upon arising this morning. In fact, my abs are very sore but of course I had to tell little miss almost 19 that I was not terribly sore. Thankfully I did not have to cough or sneeze or the jig would have been up!

Today, swimming this morning..............

CPR/First Aid/AED this afternoon where we will go over some different scenarios..

Water Aerobics this evening...............

after which I will again lap swim for another hour. At home before bed I will do yoga and use a foam roller to work out a few kinks. Noon I will lift weights with the kids in my P.E. class...me upper body. After a bowl of homemade 15 bean chili with turkey I plan on taking a little nap so I can start over on Tuesday morning.

I Desire Nicer Weather!

Saturday, February 26, 2011

I have been planning a bike ride for a week...listening to the weather guessers, which change their minds every other day. But, Southwest New Mexico is now under a winter storm warning so my ride will once again be indoors on a trainer.

On a positive note...I have lost 2 pounds and I have registered for the Mesilla Valley Triathlon on the 3rd of April. Happy Birthday to me! Truly could not have happened on a better day!

The way I look at it....I can afford a piece of cake and one dark beer after the race to celebrate my birthday and not feel too guilty!

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND. BE SAFE, ACTIVE AND EAT WELL!

Look at that snow in New Mexico isn't that where the snow birds hang out for the winter?
Best wishes with your next triathon, April 3, and Happy Birthday with celebratory cakes and ale. I am running a 5k on April 3, and it is one of my friends' birthday as well and she is running as well, not sure if she is doing a 5k or a 10k, maybe some celebrating post-race for us as well

I do a better job of telling the weather by just looking out my window. Come to think of it, I think thats what the weather reporters do also.

Have a great weekend!
