So Glad I Got To Ride..Major Weather Change!

Monday, January 31, 2011

I went to the pool twice today. It was wonderful, I am terribly out of swimming shape and sore enough that I could cry...LOL. The second time I got out of the pool to go to dinner with my kids, it was a winter wonderland and it is snowing straight down. Maybe school will be delayed, or cancelled. Course cancelled means I still have to go to school but at least I won't have any kids to deal with.

I realize the last picture is terrible but with only 15 minutes of snowing the lane I was driving in was already disappearing. I am home now and the thunder is amazing which of course means there is lightening but I am not going outside to watch for it because it is snowing straight down and it is a whopping 21 degrees. And I live in the desert? 21 degrees now and 62 degrees yesterday...no wonder I still am not over my cold. At least I got my long ride in this weekend!

Love the pictures. I usually go to Water Aerobics on Tuesday, BUT. we are in a Blizzard right now. We didn't have thunder, but we really have a lot of SNOW and the wind is blowing about 35 miles an hour. Stay safe my friend.

Black Range Ride...........

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Claudia and I went for a great ridethis afternoon. We were going to ride down the Mimbres Valley and then she decided that she wanted to do a little hill climbing. The weather was really nice, sunny and 60 degrees. There were a few stray clouds and the weather says that it is likely to get rainy tonight and remain drizzly for the next 3 or 4 days.

The black Range in a vexing mountain road....2 lanes, hair pin curves and no shoulder to speak of. It is actually a relatively safe place to bike because cars can't go that fast. When we got to our chosen turn around point, we had to stop and enjoy the view.

Cacti and rocks on one side and straight up and down and pines on the other side. This summer I will be sure and get pictures of the rest of the Black Range for you. I even got Claudia to pose for a picture before the return trip.

A 50 miler, great weather, superb company, I hope your Sunday can compare!

Glad you got the Black Range in before the predicted storm hits this week LOL! I love to drive that road, except if it's icy. If I'm coming back from Albuquerque or somewhere and it's late at night and I'm really tired I choose that road just because it keeps more awake and alert than the straight roads through Hatch and Deming. I've literally driven that road at just about every hour of the day and night over the last 20 years or so. It is such a beautiful stretch. Glad you enjoyed your ride and that you were feeling better and could do it.

What beautiful country! I'm jealous of your 60 degree weather -- we have piles of grey snow all over the place.

Yeah...The Pool is Repaired!

Thursday, January 27, 2011

During the Christmas break...the pool at Western New Mexico University, had pipes that froze. It was pretty nippy here when it snowed but freezing pipes in an in-door pool? Who turned down the heat?

Anyway, the pool is finally fixed and Monday I plan on being in it at least twice! I am waiting til Monday to make sure I am over my cold. I will just have to go on a couple of short and easy bike rides this weekend during lap swim time...LOL.

Giddy with joy? Yes I am. I never ever, never, thought that I would swim much less that I would miss being able to swim. Of course it is also very difficult to teach water aerobics and lifeguarding classes without a pool.

Ready to Pool? I am!

Yeah there were a lot of frozen pipes around here. The super snappy couldn't sell coffee for 3 days because their pipes were froze and they couldn't make it. But the indoor pool? Oh well, it really was strange weather and much colder than usual. Glad that you'll be back in it soon. Hope your cold is feeling better.

Being Sick and Thinking......

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Since I have been ill the last four days I have had considerable time to think between napping and coughing up a lung. I decided that positive thinking was best, I hate being sick. When I was a kid being sick was an inconvenience and I always thought positive thoughts so I guess I will give it a try. Can't make my head hurt any more than it already does.
Here are some positive things, in pictures that I like. Hope you enjoy!

Not an option, but pretty close to the way I currently feel.

We all have fears. How bad could fuzzy be?

Gym time as soon as I feel better!

Soup soothes my soul...as long as it is NOT chicken soup!

The proper expression to go with one's dry sense of humor!

The ocassional winter view out my door!

Friendly competition, even when I am outclassed!

My fiercest protector and champion, Spanky!

Sunsets

My Tat..soon to have a match!
And all my friends here on Spark People. I am going to retire now. Have to go to work tomorrow like it or not...and I don't, but hubby will be having surgery on his neck before too long and I will need a few more days off.

Being sick bites. When I had the stomach virus a few weeks ago, I'd feel fairly OK as long as I was lying there - but when I stood up I'd get dizzy and nauseated. Sheesh! I'm a good nurse, but a terrible patient. emoticon

Hope you feel better soon. Sickness drives me crazy! Literally! Too much time when I don't feel well enough to do anything and can't sleep all the time makes my mind feel worse than my body does.
And I know you are missing your workouts. emoticon

LMBO! Love some of those photos and can totally relate! My boy came down with a nasty cold too. Fortunately for me he likes my chicken soup, lol. It's much easier to get fresh garlic in him that way than to make him eat it raw on a spoon. Lots of garlic and vitamin C, dear friend. It's good for you!

Beautiful Day Riding

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Great weather here for this time of the year. Mind you it wasn't terrible hot..in the upper 50's to low 60's but the wind was very calm.
I went on a bike ride to Cliff with Tim Mathis again. We did this ride a couple of weekends ago. Last weekend I did a 1/2 marathon so I am working hard this weekend, but not as hard as I usually work. My hip and butt muscle is still a little cranky...but better. Tomorrow I am going riding with another friend. We are going to ride down the Mimbres River Valley. I will have to take pictures as I have not rode this ride for a while and I am sure I have not taken pictures along this route. Stay tuned!
Be active, safe, and happy!

I can't wait till I can ride again! It is cold and very snowy where I'm at, but I also need to fix up my mom's 1970s Schwinn Continental road bike before spring haha. Maybe not the ideal bike for racing, but it'll have to do for now.

I did a 'long' (for me) hour ride today. I just rode by myself around the neighborhood. As much as I love running by myself, riding by myself isn't near as much fun! It feels like 'work!' I'll have to work on finding a group or something, though I don't know that I have time right now.

Anyway, glad you had such a nice ride! And, I hope you recover quickly from your HM!
