My Day At The Gym

My day at the gym started at 5 this morning. I jumped on the spinning bike and cranked out 14 miles in 30 minutes. I had sweat pouring off of me as though I was sitting under a sprinkler. Can't do that sort of thing right now, you would be a popcicle in a short time.
After the bike I proceeded to do calf raises with a 25 lb. dumbbell, and then I did hamstring, adductor and abductor machines. I went into the stretching room and did planks, crunches and leg lifts--front, sides, back with ankle weights.
Back to the large gym room where I hopped on the treadmill and race-walked a mile, then I stretched and bundled up and went home to get ready for work.
I am not positive how many calories I spent but I know that I pedaled off 286 calories and race-walked away another 115. No idea how many I burnt doing the weights but I know I was absolutely ravenous when I got home. Usually, I am snackish after a workout but.........I drank 3 glasses or water and three glasses of orange juice before I took a shower and I was still starving.
For giggles, I returned to the gym this afternoon and did a repeat performance. Dinner tonight was interesting. I had a large salad and two pork ribs (baby backs-4in. long). I really was not into meat but I feel like a horse after eating all the salad greeens. I told my son if I woke him up neighing in the middle of the night he could just shoot me. He told me he would rather send me to a race track!
Tomorrow is upper body and core with a little bike and Friday is swimming and a massage. I wish Friday would hurry up. I am VERY sore!

First Day Back To School........

The worst part was getting up at 4:30am so that I could go to the gym before having to get ready and go to work. Although this is what I usually do...during the break I have grown accustomed to going to the gym around 8am, so I have stayed up later and now have to re-adjust my internal clock.

Once I got to the gym I rode for 20 minutes on the spinning bike and went 11 miles. I then preceded to do my core routine and then my lower body lifting routine. 9 degrees outside and I left the gym dripping sweat...the heater in the car sure felt good. After school, I went to the gym and repeated the above workout.

For breakfast I had a strawberry banana smoothie with flax seed (ground), fish oil--three omega 3 1000mg capsules, dannon strawberry/banana yogurt. 1/4 cup nonfat milk, chocolate whey protein powder. Yummy! Tomorrow I will add spinach to the concoction as well.

Gym tomorrow will consist of a brisk race-walk on the treadmill followed by my upper body lifting routine and some more core exercises. The second day of school and lots of new kids should find me wishing I was some place else, but if wishes were fishes we'd all have a fry. One day closer to summer!

Sun and an outdoor pool...who's dreaming?

    Wow! I have always admired cyclists, but really? 11 miles in 20 minutes?! Amazing! My last attempt to be a cycling warrior put me out of commission for a week, lol. Stay safe and warm in that frigid weather, Pat. I'll be thinking of you when I get on the recumbent again, NOT that I'll be racing you.

    I keep thinking of going to the gym early but never can seem to get myself moving that early. I'm often up but just not ready to go out and face the cold that early. I admire you for getting out there and doing it. I do usually fit a trip to the gym in somewhere but yesterday was not one of those days. So today I will find the time and the motivation to get back there. I did go on Sunday and was surprised just how busy it was. Sundays aren't usually that busy but after the 2-day closure and the bad weather I guess it drew them in.

    Cardio Queen, you are amazing

Do you ever have trouble with your hamstrings? When I do a lot of cardio, my hamstring muscle where it joins the pelvis gets tender. I am wondering if that is because I don't spend enough time building up to a major workout because I feel generally fit and that I should be able to do it.

Thawing Out

It is finally getting warm enough during the day to melt snow and make awesome sheets of ice on the roads! Here is a picture taken in my back yard of an icicle about 4.5 feet long/tall.

Of course, many of you will no doubt be privy to much larger icicles but for the desert...this was a peach!

School start tomorrow and it is possible that it might be delayed a while due to ice. I can tell you honestly that having a delay would NOT hurt my feelings at all. In fact, I would have a little more time to go to the gym and to the pool.

Tomorrow is day 2 of the 28 day bootcamp, first day of the spring semester, and hopefully an active safe and enjoyable day. Have a good one emoticon "s.

    Has your icicle melted yet?? Believe it or not, it is pretty warm here in Iowa now - about 35degrees - so we don't have any icicles. emoticon

    Wow - don't let the pups stand under that icicle! That sucker looks dangerous. I have a plant under the corner of the roof overhang that catches runoff - it's covered with ice now.

White Christmas...Little Late!

Yesterday was quite a day and today is not a whole lot different! It started snowing yesterday and it came down fast and furious for about 5 hours and then it cleared off and got super chilly last nigt. It was 9 degrees when I hopped in the shower this morning. Here are some pictures from yesterday:

I managed to get to town, take groceries to the kids at the other house across town, exercise and watch a couple of Westerns. This morning I took my daughter to work and enjoyed about ten minutes of sunshine before the clouds rolled in and it started snowing yet again! I love is supposed to start this next week and I have not gotten to ride and hike outside enough! Poor me, right? LOL

All of you be careful and have a nice New Year's!

    Temps varied I think. The weather channel has a thermometer or whatever at La Plata and they said it was down to 4 degrees yesterday morning according to the Weather Bug I have on my computer. This morning it's saying -3. I don't know if it's right or not but yesterday when I was out at one time AmBank said it was 28 (that was about noon) and when I got home the Weather Bug said the same thing. All I know is it is really really cold!!!

Sorry you didn't get more hiking and biking in during the break.

Blah Day

It was a blah day for me today. Physically I managed 330 minutes of exercise with almost none of it being cardio....cuz I don't really count swimming as cardio unless I get winded. Too cold to ride a bike and I had too much stuff to do to get to the gym.

Started working on medicare/medicaid for my mother that is in an Alheimer's ward. Her long-term insurance will expire in a couple of months and her personal funds will expire shortly after that. Getting old is certainly not for sissies!

Tomorrow is another day and I WILL get to the gym, snow or not and get in some tough aerobic exercise and an upper body workout. I can again comb my hair so it is time for more punishment! LOL
