Eighteen days until my next tri...and I believe I am more nervous about this one than any of the previous ones I have completed! The run is a little longer, the weather might be cooler, my knees are sore and achy.....the excuses could go on and on in my attempt to keep from thinking about the reason I am so nervous.
I have obviously lost a few pounds and I am in pretty good shape...if I do say so myself...so what's the problem?
At the Tour of Safford (here I am with a great friend), my HERO told me that she is going to do the Polar Bear Triathlon. OMG....I am petrified. This lady is absolutely mesmerizing, a friendly, fantastic person and the reason I got into triathlons in the first place. She used to be my doctor...she is a physician's assistant...but she is absolutely poetry in motion! I kinda feel like I have a third thumb when I am around her at an athletic event and I have done a triathlon as a relay with her. Huh...well at least we will not be in the same division...cuz I will be in the fat and puffies (Athenas) and she certainly will not.
School is not fun right now. The kids want out and I want them out as well. The weather is clear and cold and the tempers are short and hot!
The boys all want to fight and so do the girls and for once they are not even fighting over one another!
Why can't we all just be friends? We have "gang" land chicks with attitudes!
Gangs are an absolute pain!!!!!!!!!
But FRIENDS.......FRIENDS are priceless! I couldn't do it without all of you Spark friends!
Here's hoping you are all having a great week!
I am saving money in order to by a new bike. I hate therefore to spend any money on my present set of wheels but sometimes...you just bite the bullet and do what has to be done!
I love my bike and it has a lot of sentimental value for me. When I replace her finally, I will still have her in the garage because I refuse to trade her in. Since I had my knees redone, I have some trouble pedaling because I have a "dead" stop where I can't push with either leg but I can pull with the leg that is not on the way down. I know this does not make a lot of sense but hear me out.
After lengthy discussions with my bike mechanic...who is the "bomb" and very supportive, we decided that I needed shorter pedal arms. That involved buying a new crank set up. She has the bike up and running and I took it for a short spin yesterday. The shifting is far superior to what I had and "we" think it will be easier on my knees. Only time will tell on that premise, but I am certainly raring to go find out!
I believe I am going to survive the sinus infection. I went for a 70 mile bike ride yesterday and to the gym and swimming this morning. My face is still a little sore but I sure feel a lot better!
Saturday I officiated the small school District Championship. 4 of us drove to Animas, officiated and drove back to Silver and had a little end of the season party.
I believe we all had a good time although some of us had more fun than we should have....thus the 70 miler the next morning. I had to get my head clear and back on track.
I am tired of the kids right now and I am looking forward to Thanksgiving break....not for the food but for
....as one can't get too much stretching, rest and massages. I also look forward to hanging out with all of the family...quietly in the background watching and waiting for my chance to escape and go for a ride.
I got a new pair of running shoes and they are different but I think I am beginning to enjoy them. I kindalooked like a kid with new shoes....watching them as I walked
Hope you all are having a good day, because I KNOW that I am!
Here it is, November already. Today is voting and then........? I kinda feel like I am voting to pick the best of the worst, if that makes sense.
So for all that vote...a high five. All of you that don't vote...NO COMPLAINING!
I started over at the gym this morning. Took a couple of days off after the race on Saturday. I felt great but my legs are still a little heavy, knees slightly stiff, etc. so I ran 6 miles for a warm up and then lifted upper body. One of my goals is to lift every Tuesday and Thursday for this month and then a light lifting workout on Sunday.
Second goal for the month...every Mon., Wed., and Friday morning at 4am I will be at the track to race walk....working on a quicker 5 mile time in preparation for the Polar Bear Triathlon on the 4th of December. I can run forever on a machine...but I can't run on my own because my knees still do not cooperate.
You work on what you can and accept what you absolutely have to!
I am also swimming Monday through Thursday at least once a day. I am working on increasing speed. For me this means upper body strength as kicking really bothers the knees after a while. My form is improving and so are my times as I become more comfortable, confident and stronger in the water.
Of course I still go for a regular massage every month. I am working on spending at least an hour a day on stretching and yoga.
I will keep improving my diet which means I am adding more beans and veggies and cutting down on meat unless it is fish. My goal is to drop five pounds this month. I promise that I will exercise by myself more this month and be happy with it.
We should have all figured out by now that some dietary changes can be a little challenging...LOL.
My next goal is to get a least 7 hours of rest a day. Since I start at four in the morning and have class sometimes until 8:30 at night...this will be my most challenging goal. I still have to have time to enjoy life's little things such as:
The above goals I think I can accomplish. They are always subject to change. What are your goals for the month?
