So I opened the pool this morning for the last time until next summer. I swam for 4 beautiful hours with my swim coach. She took me to lunch and started talking about the league she bowls in. We ended up going bowling. It was fun and I am tired and I hope everyone has had a great weekend!

I haven't bowled in years and wasn't good at it at all! Except I did do pretty well a few times on the Wii game but that doens't really count I guess.

I'd be beyond exhaustion if I did all that!

The amount of exercise you do just exhausts me when I read about it. You are a human exercise machine!

BOTH sound like such fun! I have not bowled in a few years. DH's knees won't hold up on that strain and even though he will go with me, it feels weird to not have him join in with me. So I avoid saying anything.... It is a blast though!

Awesome! I tried to do 50 miles yesterday and had to bail after 25 because of the heat and wind here. You are totally awesome and someday I'll be riding that distance as well.

Yesterday and Today

Friday, September 03, 2010

Yesterday I had an awesome workout at the gym. I then spent 2 glorious hours life-guarding for one of the local Christian schools. Yes, I teach at a public school...but my principal "volunteered" my time and he subbed for me at school.

These students are in a different league than the students I usually work with. Of course, they have a stable home life and some of them are wealthier...mostly the "wealth" comes in the form of someone loving them enough to set boundaries.
They are polite and introduce themselves and even addressed me as Ms. Lifeguard. It was quite refreshing!

Today, I was fortunate enough to experience the exact same day with the students being middle school and high school aged. Once again, they proved to be very polite and attentive. They entertained everyone present by whipping up a little synchronized swimming display---a flower!

Totally enjoyed both days. I also realized that I could not work anywhere teaching other than where I am at. I want my students to experience what these other kids have and to this end I will keep working at an alternative high least for a couple more years.

Enjoy your Holiday Weekend! Be safe, be active, enjoy family...and above all else, Smile and have fun!

My Mood Today

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

My mood today is a little off, mostly because I do not feel well and sorta because I am really stressed right now. I keep saying one more day and I will get ________ done and it just is not happening.
I decided I needed to think about what I am doing here and why, to re-focus, re-think and see if I am still where I need to be...on the right track. I am going to evaluate using three quotes I really like.

"You can complain about being fat or you can do something about it. Which do you choose?"
*Obviously I have chosen to do something about it...mostly it has worked
*Often still frustrated and lack patience because my body does not like to lose weight or change very quick
*Healthier choices are being made
*Logging religiously
*Need to cut down on cheating!
Mostly I would say that I am fighting the good fight in this area!

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."
Aristotle was a sharp cookie and someone I really wish I could have spent some time with!
*I exercise habitually and constantly challenge myself.
*My diet consists of mostly good choices.
*I communicate more and I believe that makes me happier and a better friend.
*I have chosen to be a triathlete and I dedicate a great deal of my time, and practice towards this pursuit

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." Harriet Tubman
*I will run again someday
*I will weigh less than 140 pounds
*I will attend and graduate from medical school
*I will make a difference in another persons life in another manner that is not teaching
*I will bike often
*I will bike once in all of the states

I hope each of you has a great day!

Saturday and Spanky

Saturday, August 28, 2010

I went on a 50 mile bike ride today and Spanky is not impressed..AT ALL!
Spanky has been left alone for quit some time this last week and he has decided that he has had enough. He is sitting on the computer desk in front of me and he has decided that he will let me type, but he is also going to make his presence known!

Tomorrow I will take him to the pool with me and then we can go for a long walk as well. He thinks it is time to play ball, not go to bed. I do not happen to agree so I guess I will sit up with him, play ball and have another piece of watermelon.
I wish I could take him with me when I go out on the bike. He would look pretty sporting with little goggles and an ascot!
Hope you all have a great weekend.

Aw, he's so cute. I should have gone to the pool today so I could have seen him. I chickened out on the cold water and went to workout at the gym instead. I've gotten spoiled to the warm pools at the gym and I am not very good at swimming. I do some swimming in the cooler of the 2 pools and a lot of water exercises. The pool is smaller and I can do 4 laps before I stop to rest. In a "real" pool I could probably do only one! I've got to work on that. I know this would have been a good time with the coaches there and I blew it.

hOW DO YOU DO IT? You are my hero!
How long did that take you?
I'm a beginner riding but sometimes I get bored
Please tell me what makes you go on so long, what that makes you feel? I'm doing 60 min 15 km, and I feel right but, 50 MILES???? WOW!

I agree with Devora -- just a casual ride around the neighborhood. Taking him on a serious training ride would hold you back, no?

Why not take him? I have seen so many riders with little dogs like yours in a bike basket. He's so cute.
