"First" Easter

Today is the first time I have not had to hide Easter eggs and baskets in 17 years. The kids think they are adults this year and are coming for dinner but not early to hunt eggs. I might hide eggs for the puppies we have but that will depend on the weather.
I am so nervous about next weekend (first solo triathlon), that I am miserable! I know everything will work out alright and it is going to be lots of fun. My kids are going with me and so is a good friend of mine that is also going to compete.
I am off to finish my potato salad. This will be my treat for losing weight. I have not made my salad or eaten for 4 years. My son said it looked to him like I could afford to eat some of the salad for Easter. I kissed him and it made him blush.

I Finally Did It!

I finally managed to lose 100 pounds. My body is much more shapely and toned! I will not stop exercising or change my diet and life style. I chewed tobacco for 35 years and drank. I do neither now. On occasion I will have a drink but it certainly is not daily. This last year I had a six pack total.
Tobacco has no place in my life and I feel sorry with those still struggling with addiction. It is tough to quit! I choose to stay away from smokey areas and no one is allowed to smoke in my home or car.
Soda pop is another item not welcomed in my body. I do not care if it is diet or what flavor it is. I have not drank a soda in four years. I have got my children to cut down on how many they drink as well.
Beef is still a favorite of mine but I eat it about once a month unless I can find grass fed only. I was on a meat judging team in college. I know that meat grades prime on the amount of fat it has marbled in it. Therefore, that expensive steak you are buying....you are paying for fat. I know fat makes meat taste good but I also know that your taste will change if you buy grass fed only beef.
I was athletic in high school and college and then I got out of the habit of exercising. I know now that I will fight to keep this from ever happening again. I have some excellent friends that support and push me. They are all athletic and helpful. They got me into triathlon, duathlon, and bike riding which are three of my greatest loves.
All in all, the choices one makes define the problems one has to deal with. The body you have is the only one you get. I feel the hand you where dealt can be turned in for another with some work. It is your life, live it, but do so wisely. I could not have lost the weight if I had not changed the rest of my choices! emoticon

Stress?

Ever have one of those days when it seems everything goes wrong? I had one of those days yesterday. I got up and I was cranky! I don't know why, but the feeling was undeniable. I went and swam for an hour and felt much better.
While at school, I got a text from my husband. He was hauling gravel and the trailor tongue broke. Something else to pay for! He is unemployed currently and I am working three jobs. I walked very briskly in my P.E. class and I felt better.
I went to teach my university class and the copy machine was broken. I had to give three different tests orally. All three tests were different and it took longer than I would have liked. I went for a bike ride after class and I felt better.
On the way home, I got a text from my son. His truck broke down. He is employed full time but he doesn't make a whole lot of money and he is between pay days. You guessed it! Another thing I have to pay for and this one will be costly. I went to a water aerobics class and I felt better.
There seems to be a common thread to my story. I have found exercise as a great way to get healthier and a fantastic avenue for relieving stress. I suggest that you find several exercises you really enjoy and use them to relieve stress. Hopefully, you do not have a lot of stress. If you don't, call me and I will share. LOL emoticon

It's Coming!

I have been training for my first solo triathlon for quite some time. I entered four months ago and suddenly the event is two weeks away. Where has the time gone? Can I do this? Have I spent enough quality time on the bike? Can I really swim 400 meters (just learned how to swim this year)? What do I do if I have a flat?
The list could go on for days and nothing would change what will eventually happen. I have trained well and hard. I have watched my diet and eaten well from a wide variety of foods. I know I am capable of doing whatever I make up my mind to do. I am only competing against myself.............. Here is the real meat of the matter!
I am a very competitive person. I know I will not be last but I can't run yet because of my recent surgeries on my knees and therefore I know I will not be first. I guess the largest hurdle for me to overcome is accepting the fact that I can't always be in the top five. I will have won just by completing the event. Many people will still be home on the couch when I am out "playing" in the event. So what is the problem Pat?

  


Weight loss by eating more........

I never really believed that you could lose weight by eating more. I have found this to be true, as long as what you are eating is not cake, sweets, etc. I have lost six pounds this month and have almost doubled the amount of carbohydrates I am eating. Of course my exercise has increased a little since the weather is nicer, but not by more than an hour in duration. emoticon
