Beautiful Bike Ride

Friday, June 25, 2010

My ride began at 7:30 this morning. The weather was calm, crisp, clean and cool. It rained last night and the pines smelled wonderful.

We started out in front of the Buckhorn in Pinos Altos and rode to Meadow creek. The deer were thick and it made the down hills a little slower than normal. One road bike plus one deer equals one h**ll of a mess!

We really needed the rain and we could use some more. I thank all of my Spark Friends that I have asked, for sending some rain this way..HAHA
Tomorrow is a funeral day and maybe some laundry and a short bike ride. Had to have my shifters adjusted today...so I know the ride will be sweet.
So I will have some time to contemplate after the funeral...I know where there is a great view...peace and solitude. I will recover and if I am lucky and the weather cooperates...I can ride my ride to the view.
Have a great Saturday!

Did you ride all the way down to Meadow Creek or to the turn off? I haven't been all the way down to the creek in years but it was always so beautiful I need to do it again. Just not on a bike LOL! I really need to start working on my bike riding.

I am glad that you were able to get your ride in. It looked beautiful.

I know that will be part of my physical therapy - riding a bike.

Rain....Really!

Thursday, June 24, 2010

So, of course I get a day off tomorrow and have an extended bike ride planned and it is raining! Lots of thunder and lightening too. But good old New Mexico...if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes and it will change.
Taught lessons to a young man this morning, a three year old and he is scared of everything! I have never been around a child that is so upset and bothered. He constantly talked about...what if the tree falls, what if you fall while carrying me in the pool, what if the water is dirty, what if the wind blows....constantly. I truly believe that he has a problem of some sort, as I have never, ever been around a kiddo this worked up about everything. He also hates to be touched but he has a constant death grip on me. Weird...any suggestions?

Perhaps he needs to be hypnotised...because hiding from everything has to be exhausting.

Have a happy Friday...and don't forget to give me some suggestions if you have some. Thank you!

He could also have some type of autism spectrum disorder. Not wanting to be touched can sometimes be part of that and fear of anything different. Or could be the anxiety disorders mentioned. I have a grandson who has a form of autism in Oklahoma who is 3 years old and have done a lot of reading up on it.

HI Patty, The boy has a general anxiety disorder, which may come from his parent's fears. When my children started with "what ifs", I stated BUT there is not chance of that. Poor little boy, those what ifs can drive one up the wall. Patience is the only suggestion I can think off.

You got a great response already.

The only thing I was going to say,is it sounds like someone who has an excuse to keep from doing what they don't want to do.

Hope you get that bike ride in.

I was a cautious kid, but I wasn't as worked up as that 3-year-old!

Enjoy your rain. It's hot and humid here today...

Sounds like he has either Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OR both... (or maybe he has a family member who has projected their own fears onto him)

The questions about the tree falling and the wind blowing have more to do with "learned" fear. The dirty water and the aversion to being touched sound like classic OCD. The other anxieties fall under the GAD category.

How do I know this? I have GAD and OCD as do both of my daughters. PLUS their fear of weather is fed by a weather fanatic dad who always talks like it's Armageddon every time there is a little wind or thunder activity.

We dealt with the contamination and touching issues using Response Prevention. This means that my daughter would get her hands "yucky" and then have to wait "x" amount of time before washing them. We gradually increased the time until she could handle it without anxiety. She now scrubs toilets to get through college.

The weather and the trees and the wind were just dealt with by my remaining calm and showing confidence. I would remind them that the wind has been blowing for centuries and guess what? We're all still here. When it came to things like trees and lightening etc, I reassured them that while things like that did occasionally happen, usually no one gets hurt.

Don't dismiss or minimize his fears, BUT also don't reinforce them by comforting him every single time. If you comfort him or try to convince him otherwise every time he exhibits fear, this reinforces the idea that there might actually be something to fear (otherwise you wouldn't be constantly comforting him...)

Don't know if this helps, but it might give you some insight as to why this child is behaving this way and how to deal with it.

Almost...Not Holding Breath!

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Oh my was it hot and humid here today. It was really miserable and there was no breeze. We have a reported chance of rain showers but I don't see it happening quite yet. The following are clouds denoting the typical rain storm in the high desert. The rain evaporates before it hits the ground!

Oh well, maybe one of these days the rain"God" will decide we are worthy!
Hope everyone had a great day today and that tomorrow is even better!

If I could send some of the torrential downpours that we are getting right now I surely would!!! LOL! We are having some crazy weather here (I'm in Ontario - we don't usually get anything worse than say, a thunder storm). It's raining so hard, that I can hardly see out my window. Yesterday and today, there are severe storm warnings for north of here, including tornadoes - and yesterday we had an earthquake thrown in for fun!!! Please take our rain!!! emoticon

It was hot and humid here.

My son lived in the Dallas area for 2 years. He said he really missed clouds while he was there. Now he lives in Virgina Beach; I'm sure he is seeing clouds again.

Hoping you get some emoticon

I Like.....

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

I really get angry with people that decide they do not like a person because of their "Color"!
I think prejudice is taught at home by those that are ignorant. I also don't like being held accountable for things that took place way before I was born. I did not buy or sell slaves, kill or displace Indians, force Hispanics into hard labor, etc.
People need to be more accepting and I think happy people are more willing to accept others. Therefore, I am going to focus on what makes me happy. See if any of the following float your boat as well:
A large assortment of friends,
big and small,
a nice little jog,
an occasional sweet,
variety and new things,
a good gym,
great food,
clean, crisp water,
friendly competition,
cycling long or short
AND....being free to do all of the above, knowing I have the support of many friends here At Spark People that are overcoming many of the same struggles I have! Have a great and active Wednesday!

* getting in a good nap once in a while
* dancing!

...and of course, I also like funny pictures of cats.

I love the pics to go with the sentiments. You always have such cute pics that make me smile.

We can focus on the negative or we can focus on what makes us happy. It's almost 7 am and I'm going to go focus now on what makes me happy and go run out on the Fort Bayard Game Preserve!

I'd add a loving family, especially my hubby and son.

I agree that I don't like being held accountable for things my family didn't do. Most of them weren't even in the country. When they came to this country, they worked in the coal mines.

Keep up your hard work.
