Tech Free Weekend and 0ther Ramblings

Monday, February 25, 2013

Well, this weekend, I attempted to go computer free. Did I have to count my smartphone? I actually did really well. I did not turn the computer on at all and I think I spent a total of 5 minutes on my smartphone for the whole weekend. I considered that a great success.

I'm a card maker. And it's been a long time since I spent any amount of time making cards. Making cards for me is very therapeutic and I forgot how much I enjoy doing it. So this weekend, since I wasn't going to be 'wasting' time on the computer, I spent it making cards. And I loved it! This is a sample of the cards I made this weekend.

I was able to get outside and get a couple of runs in. They were shorter runs of under 5 miles but, it felt soooo good to not have to run on the treadmill. My hubby and I went walking in our woods yesterday afternoon so I got an additional workout, trekking through knee-deep snow. We were a quarter of the way down the trail before we realized that we should have strapped on the snow-shoes. Lesson learned!

Did you stay up to watch the Oscars? I didn't make it very far. I mainly watch to see what the ladies are wearing. I didn't have any favorites this year, did you? I will say, it was awesome to see Robin Roberts reporting. I watched a special 20/20 about her journey, that she experienced this past year. What an amazing person. I wish the media would focus more on individuals like her as heroes.

I also wanted to update everyone on the challenge that I'm doing for Lent this year. It's called the 40 acts and the link can be found here:

www.40acts.org.uk/

What I'm getting from the challenge is that as an individual there is a lot that I can do to live a better life and to help those around me live better. The simple act of smiling and sharing a touch really makes a difference in someone's life.

Have an incredible week!

Wow, Susan, I really love your cards! You've got talent!!! Do you use a card program or is it all by scratch???? Either way, they're beautiful!

Think of all those extra calories burned by not taking your snowshoes! Lol

I admire you for going tech free for the weekend! I used to grouse that DH couldn't go anywhere without his "brain" (cell phone) and his computer. Nowadays, I'm the one that refuses to unplug. Always want to at least make my SP check-in :-D

Day 2: Love

Thursday, February 14, 2013

It's day 2 of the 40 days of love that I've started from the 40acts blog. If you'd like to join here's the link:

www.40acts.org.uk/blog/love/

Today assignment is to focus on "clothing" ourselves in love. Too often I'm more concerned with how I look and not how I act. I look in the mirror making sure that I pass the material worlds approval, not realizing that my heart and spirit are the ones that need to feel and look good.

There is a sentence from today's post that says this - "St Paul describes love like a garment; something we put on deliberately." Today I'm going to envision my cloak of love and go the extra mile to make everyone that I encounter feels special some way. Even something simple as just a smiling at a stranger.

So today's goal:
1) Call my parents and really tell my parents that I love them. I'm going to let them know how appreciated they really are and how lucky I am to have them in our lives.
2) Smile at everyone I see.
3) Leave a little something for the mailperson in the mailbox.
4) Make an appointment to give blood.

How will you cloak yourself in "Love" today?

Great goals! I especially love that you're going to call your parents. I lost my dad nine years ago, and I wish I could call him today.

But wait, you have a mailperson in your mailbox? Ha ha, sorry, I couldn't pass that up...I know, I have a strange sense of humor.

Happy Valentine's Day! emoticon

Fellow sparker - 25weeks posted this link

Love Letter

Thursday, February 07, 2013

The February challenge for the Love Yourself/Love Your Body team is to send a love letter to yourself. Here's my letter:

Dear Sue,

Iím writing this letter to you as a dear friend. I think these are words you need to hear as you donít realize how amazing you really are.

Youíve accomplished so many things in your life. You had the strength to leave a mentally abusive relationship when you didnít know what the future would hold for you. That took such amazing courage to move to a larger city when you didnít know anyone there. You took a leap of faith, landed on your feet and took off running.

Your have such gentleness when it comes to the animal kingdom. You love them all from the wild birds that you feed, to your kitties and all animals that you have helped in your life. You make a conscience effort to make the right choice when it comes to your food choices making sure that their environmental impact is little on this earth.

I know that you complain that you have no patience but, you do. You have the patience to listen to people and offer them sound advice. You have shoulders that friends can lean on when they need help and arms that hold them when they need to cry.

You have a sense of humor that comes out at the right time and a smile that welcomes a person to come in, sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Continue to be the amazing person you are as you continue on your journey of life. Youíre doing great!

Beautiful! It takes true love of self to recognize and leave an abusive relationship. And I'm convinced that the unconditional love of an animal is the greatest love on Earth.

Thank you so much for sharing, and for being YOU! emoticon
