First of all, I turned off my fitbit connection to SP. I didn't feel like it was accurately recording my real exercise time. It recorded every step that I took as exercise, and it inflated my numbers. It just didn't feel right to me. I do walk 10,000 steps most days, due to the nature of my job. While this IS exercise, I'm not doing it with the intention of exercise, it's just my job. It doesn't do anything to help me lose weight. It helps me maintain my current weight. I like having a job that makes me so active, but it's my normal day to day activity. I will just add in the exercise that I do - that way it reflects what I'm really doing.
SO, that said, I have been running a mile 3x a week since Sept. 15th. This past Sunday, for the FIRST time, I was able to run that mile without stopping to walk!!!!! It took me 12 minutes. I ran 12 minutes without stopping!!!!! I did the same thing yesterday morning!!!! Whoo Hooo!!!!!
The reason I even attempted to do this was because I had a dream about it the night before. It was one of those dreams that seem so real. I really thought I was outside running and I did the whole thing without stopping. When I woke up, I was disappointed that it was a dream, but let that spur me on to try it, and I did it!!!! I'm okay with taking walk breaks if they're needed. I've even read articles on the net by very famous runners, who have said that walking breaks can be beneficial to preventing injuries. I'm just amazed that I could do it. My lungs still protest. I feel like I'm a very loud breather.
My next goal is to try to run more than 3x a week. I'm aiming for every other day. I'm a morning runner and with winter coming on, this is going to be more exercise for my mind than for my body. If I can get out the door, I should be okay. I'm still sticking with a mile, and then do longer runs on the weekend. By spring, I'm hoping to love the nicer weather so much, that I'll add a lot more miles and run every day.

I'm super proud of myself for seeing a goal all the way through. On Sept. 15th, at the end of a day when I did NOTHING, I decided to go for a mile run. I took my son along and it was sprinkling, but I did it. Then I decided to make a goal of running a mile 3x a week. I accomplished that goal!!!!!!
My goal for October is to still run 3x a week. Maybe even add a 1/2 mile more towards the end of the month.

I'm jogging/walking a mile 3x a week.
It was really hard on Saturday. At 10 am, when my son and I went to the track, there were track kids there practicing, so I decided to wait until later in the day. We went back out around 7pm - as much as I am NOT a morning person, I am DEFINITELY a morning exerciser! That was incredibly hard. But I did it.
Today's run at 7am was AWESOME! I was able to run for longer periods of time. I still needed to stop and walk, but it was better. I'm not coughing as much. I really need to learn how to breathe when I'm running. It feels like my lungs are full of holes and that there's no suction. I grew up with two smokers and that, on top of allergies, didn't help me. I'm hoping that exercise will make my lungs stronger. I'm amazed that I could run better after only doing it 5 times, and every other day or two.

Here are my running goals:
Jog/Walk - 3 times a week
on Monday at 7am/ Wednesday 7am/ and Saturday
I drop my son off for orchestra at 6:55 on Monday's and Wednesday's - so I have just been zipping over to the high school to get my mile run on their track, before students start getting there at 7:30. It works perfectly for me.
The best thing is, when I wake up in the morning, I'm not getting out of bed at 6am to go do exercise. I don't have a choice. I have to get up, so I can wake up my son, so that he can be to practice on time. If exercise depended on me getting up early, then I wouldn't do it. BUT, 45 minutes later, when we're headed to school and I'm dressed in my exercise clothes, I'm fine with working out. Plus, I've decided to take the "I don't have enough time to do this" out of the equation. I take a shower and wash my hair first thing in the morning, because I won't have time to do it afterwards, with getting my daughter ready. So after I run, I just freshen up a bit and I'm fine! I know that probably sounds weird, but trust me, I know how to use excuses and I'm NOT going to do it this time around!!!
I'm doing okay on the running. It's a 1/4 mile track, so I run half way around, then walk, run the top curve, then walk to the start and repeat 3 more times. My shins are sore. I can deal with any physical pain that it might cause, but I will be so glad when my breathing gets under control. I'm still coughing a little. My lungs just need to be stronger.
I'm enjoying it so far. My next run is scheduled for Saturday. I can do that with my son. Oh, I also enjoy that it's dark out at 7am!!!!

Today I ran a mile. I asked my 11-year-old son to go to the high school track with me, and we ran a mile. It only took him 8 minutes and it only took me 15 minutes. I'm okay with that. I haven't actively ran since my first year in college, in 1984. So 15 minutes is good.
You know what else is great? I did it at 5pm at night. I wasn't worried about who would see me. There were 2 men on the track and I didn't care if they saw me struggling or walking, and guess what, they were walking some of it too. I'm recovering from a cold, so the hardest part for me was trying to breathe without coughing.
I'm really happy with this. I've been wearing my fitbit and Mon-Fri, I walk more than 10,000 steps, but that's all due to my job. On the weekends I fall to below 6000. At 4pm today, I had only walked 600. I'm not really sure how that happened. Well, maybe it's because I took 2 naps, and laid around and read all day. But I did do some work in the kitchen, so I was very surprised to see it only reading 600!!!
I feel like the fitbit records too high on my exercise page. It's getting the numbers right, but on Friday it said that I exercised for 192 minutes and on my fitbit page, I only got 30 minutes of high intensity activity. I would rather it only record the high intensity minutes, because the other minutes I'm just walking from one place to another, it's not really exercise, or I'm just on my feet. It is exercise, but it's not with the intention of exercise, like the running was today.
Anyway, I ran a mile today and I'm going to do it tomorrow too!
