258 point and then a new level!

This has been the longest time getting to my next Sparkpoints level! Now that it is soooo close I am going all out to get to the next level!

I have joined a new fun challenge on one of my teams and we go in and look at the number before on the message board and add to it and if what you add makes the number a double you send a goodie to a team member. emoticon I love it as I am getting to meet new people! Cause I get goodies as well!

Have managed to get stuck into cleaning the laundry this morning, all the windows and the inside of the top loading washing machine, amazing how grubby they can get.

Pollution alert is on in the city so might go to the gym downstairs instead of my outside walk! Cars with 3 or 4 on the end of their number plate are not allowed to use their cars today.

Well had better go and have lunch as hubby has just walked in the door! emoticon

    Wow. Scary & crazy about the pollution alert. It's hard for me to comprehend since we live in a very clean area. We drink water from the lakes & the air is sweet. I always feel appreciatative of it, but today on my walk I'm going to be thinking of you locked inside & be even more grateful that I live out in the country. Glad you won't have to live there very long!

Great job on getting into the cleaning. That is my plan for today too... so send some of that cleaning energy my way, will you?

    We, too, need more rain. The ground is so dry that brush fires have started popping up again. I've not heard before of car rationing. That's really eye-opening. -- Lou

    I know that there are pollution alerts, but I didn't realize that that was how they would deal with them. It makes sense. Inconvenient for those chosen, yet it still makes sense.

It seems that all you do is clean and tidy and get things ready. You sure were busy in Australia and now there! I guess that you keep active. Make sure that you claim the points somehow.

    The pollution must be pretty bad. They have that
system in Athens of odd and even numbers for cars
when it is really a high pollution.
I guess people have to use public transport as that
is the idea to keep the cars off the road.

Libby, you do get a workout with heavy cleaning.

    Wow! I never knew they did that! I wish they could do something to cut back the number of cars here. Far too many people use cars here and this city is built for them rather then people who like to walk or bike :( We are lucky not to have pollution.

Heavy cleaning equals squatting and stretching!

Just sat down to write this blog and prior to that put in my exercise for the day on the tracker.

I put in " heavy cleaning" on the tracker as I cleaned all the windows in the patio area and then proceeded to wash the floor out there as well. emoticon
As there is NO decent mop and bucket in this country I decided to do the floors the way we used to, go to the squat position and do it by hand, so with really hot water, gloves and a cloth off I went, had to have a rest half way through! emoticon I could really feel my quads stretching ! so I don't feel guilty about not walking today. emoticon

I was a good girl and did NOT weigh myself this am like I normally do. emoticon

My next weigh in, is next Monday the 6th of June!

I did all my measurements and was surprised that despite being on a "forever" plateau I had actually lost a few more centimetres, total overall loss in the last 2 months of 7cms or 2 and 3quarter inches! emoticon

Well had better go make up the bed, managed to wash the mattress cover and the sheets today also. Love getting into a bed with nice fresh sheets! emoticon

I continue with remaining grain free, eating lots of veggies and eggs, nuts and meat and 2 pieces of fruit a day.
Am allowed a small piece of dark chocolate a day, so I had that after washing the floors.

Also followed a Sparkfriends advice a took the jug of water out of the 'fridge and am drinking more water.

    Awesome work!! Scrubbing the floors the old fashioned way is very hard.. Losing inches is a success too, never forget that. It means you are toning and strengthening up, every bit as important as losing the weight. In fact, building muscle will help you burn calories faster. But also, muscle weighs heavier than fat so gaining muscle can even add weight before you start losing it.
Sounds like you are rocking this program. I have a piece or two of dark chocolate every night too :)

    Since my kitchen floor is tiny, that's the way I wash it. Never really thought of it as exercise - but it only takes about 15 minutes! Still, maybe thinking of it that way will get me to do it more often.

Getting into the swing of the June plan!

Thank you everybody for your input to my last blog! emoticon I feel very fortunate to have you as caring friends, who take the time to read my blogs and give constructive comments. THANKYOU

Had a much better sleep last night, so woke up a little before hubby's alarm went off at 0700. I was lying there wondering what the time was as the traffic noise sounded quite busy, I was so happy that it wasn't some ridiculous hour of the morning. emoticon

I know it isn't June till Wednesday but the plan I am on is a 31 day plan and I started it on Wed the 25th. I am going to weigh myself every week as suggested by the majority of my Sparkfriends, so this morning I was 71.1kgs and I will do my measurements tomorrow.

I will continue being grain free for the whole month.

I finally got out for my walk at 3.30pm and managed a brisk 6km walk in an hour, so was pleased with that. Once I finish this blog I am going to do some stretching.

I need to get on top of my water as am not drinking enough at the moment, seems to happen with the cooler weather. emoticon

emoticon emoticonam so pleased I did my walk and was wearing my new Asics that I bought at a discount in Perth as part of the reward for participating in the Asics 5km Fun Run. Which reminds me, I need to get those photos up!

    OK, June is going to be our month. I've been preparing a 4 week plan for June (starting Sunday). Enough plateauing - we got to shake it up & get those last pesky pounds off. Great job getting in the walk. Now that it's cooler, maybe try herbal teas to get in your water.

The new trainers sound good. Libby I usually do 6km
when I walk and have been tracking it as 3 miles.
Do you know how I can check if this is right?

Really happy for you that you woke up at a normal hour.
That means your body has adapted after the jet leg.
You will no doubt be busy getting yourselves organized

We must be linked somehow- got back from my first run in the the asics I brought today- sat down & read your blog! Ha!
I am excited coz I have been running for a year and half and really needed to replace my old ones.
Plus, I have also stayed same weight, around 72 for FOREVER, it seems.
I remain positive that, even if I never lose another kilo, all this exercise makes me more beautiful and resilient to life.

    So glad you are getting a better sleep. I don't like cold water at any time let alone cold weather, so I fill up a jug that will give me 10 cups of water and let it go to room temperature. I know I have my water for the day when I am finished it, but frequently drink more. Someone once advised me to heat it up if I didn't like it cool. You can also add lemon slices to give it a flavor if you don't like it plain.
Way to go for your distance! Great to have new shoes!

I have been astounded by everyone who has been with me at this time of worry .. It is a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by the caring ,love and support I have.
My Colin is so amazed that so many of you are sending well wishes and keeping me on track ,
Hopefully they will find out what infection he has soon, and treat it appropriately.
At the moment he is on a general antibiotic .. he has more heart tests today so hopefully will know more later ..

Back from the land of jet lag! And a new plan for the next 28 days!

Finally feeling "human" again. Head is clear and sleep pattern almost back to normal! emoticon

Have just about caught up with most of my sparkfriends! Really missed the daily Spark interaction while I was away in Tasmania, will be getting one of those i-phones ASAP!

emoticonback to daily tracking and am impressed with the new tracker. Ii don't even bother with "my favourites" list any more. I just go to the "what have you eaten" tab, type it in , up comes easy options and put in the amount and there it is! Love it! another good incentive to eat clean food , no trying to guesstimate what you have eaten.

emoticonwill be back out walking again tomorrow. Have really missed my long walks. While I was in Perth I had to limit the length of walks with Sooty and Abby as Sooty has been diagnosed with arthritis in his back leg. So he is on medication to reduce the inflammation for a short while and had to restrict the length of his walks. So did lots of short walks around our local park.

Nutrition wise I have commenced a 31 day "no grain" eating plan and am currently on day 5. I am allowed all vegetables, fruit, meat and walnuts, almonds and cashews.

My typical breakfast is fruit with yogurt. emoticon

Lunch can be boiled egg with tomato, capsicum, lettuce and carrot.

Dinner is meat, fish , turkey or chicken with cauliflower, brooklets, peas.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have been tracking this now for the past 3 days and finding that I am getting enough carbs without the grains.

Suggested snacks are,
fruit and nuts, such as an apple and 6 almonds
tuna and carrots
hard boiled egg with celery
guacamole with veggies

So, why am I doing this?

For those of you who know me, know that I have hit this very long protracted plateau, my body has decided it is "comfortable" with this weight. The thing is, the numbers are NOT good, they are not BAD either, but at the age of 57 I don't have the luxury of accepting where my body thinks it is "comfortable".

Why? Because I am still classified as "overweight" by the charts, at 5 foot 3inches or as we say in Australia 163cms tall and I currently weigh 71.3 kg.

My ideal weight should be between 58 - 60kgs

I also have a high fasting blood sugar level , and this does not sit well with me at all!

Most of my body fat sits in my abdomen and back and that is proving to be VERY hard to move!

So my plan for the next 28 days is to eat grain free, walk at least 5 kms a day, increasing it to 10kms every 3 days. On return from my walk I will do at least 10mins of strength training.

I am keeping it simple as we will be packing up and leaving Santiago a week after this 28 day plan. I need to be focused and make this whole thing achievable.

Also thinking seriously of weighing myself weekly instead of daily. What do you think?

    Weighing yourself weekly sounds like a good idea. I find that it makes you more accountable for trying to make that scale go down.

I haven't tried the new tracking system for nutrition as of yet. I grew very tired of the long and tedious time that it took to enter foods. I'll check that out at a later date.

Glad to hear that your jeg lag is practically gone.

    I love the new Tracker too! So easy! I used to go grain free when I was losing because they added calories up fast. But I had digestive troubles and had to add bran buds..I hope that it helps bust your plateau. Do make sure you are getting enough water..I only weigh once a week. Our weight fluctuates far too much to do daily. Always the same day and time..
Not too sure I agree with the daily 10 min strength training unless your plan is to focus on a different body area each time -we are supposed to give the area worked a day of rest in between!

    I love the new tracker too. I still go to my favourites - but then I use the limit options by typing in the first 2 letters. Fantastic & so much faster!

I understand about limiting the walks. My FiL's dog, Dooley, has really slowed down this year. He's 9-10 years old - could be arthritis.

I think changing things up is a great idea. It will be interesting to see what 30 days without grains does for your body - especially your fasting blood sugar.

Do you have spagetti squash available there? It's a great substitute if you're craving pasta. I actually prefer it to the real thing now.

    Looks as though you have a plan which is the most important step. I weigh once a week like Susie...in the morning in the buff. Don't need an extra ounce of clothes.

    I don't think I could totally give up grains - even tho I know you can get your carbs in without them - and I admire your determination. And understand where you're coming from, too, considering I'm pretty much in the same boat.

I don't own a scale so can only WI. At my weekly WW meetings. I think that's a good thing.

    Libby, I cannot imagine going grain free since I absolutely LOVE them, so I hope you do OK with that plan... what is wrong with grains, anyway? I thought they were good for you; aren't they? Sorry I'm so dense about this! I just get so confused on what is healthy and what is not, sometimes! emoticon

    So glad you are slowly getting over the jetlag and
getting yourself into a plan. Sounds good and you
will notice a difference. As for the weighing daily,
I would also say to do it weekly as there are so many
fluctuations during each day that it would all be
different readings. Also there's less stress.

As Susie says, same time on the particular day is
the best way to go. good luck on your new eating
plan and as I am 5'3" also, it sounds very easy to
follow. emoticon

    Definately weigh your self weekly daily is too much of a fluctuation.
I weigh myself each week now on the same day after I have been to the toilet in the morning and I am naked from the shower and before breakfast ..

This in my opinion is the only way to get a true reading ..
What will you do when you get home in June ? does Graeme have anything else lined up yet, will you go back to nursing or have you retired ...?. Glad you are over the jetlag ...

    Oh Libby I used to weigh myself daily when I was young and crazy , it took me nearly 2 years in Overeaters Anonymous to give up on that and weigh myself only once a week. Daily is too hard because of body processes in my opinion, sometimes we retain liquids or are constipated etc. Weekly is the best way.
Glad that you've recovered a bit from the jet lag. Still, you're up very late. I got an iphone las year and I'm in love with it.

Arrived safely in Santiago!

Just a quick blog to let you know I have arrived safely in Santiago. DH must be a at site as he organised a taxi to bring me home.

Am going to have some lunch and go to bed. It is 1220 pm here but more like midnight for me! I did not sleep well on the plane , got to watch a few movies.

No beautiful scenery as we flew in as there was a lot of low lying cloud.

Will do a big catch up with everyone in the next few days.
