Seriously, when I have a coughing fit, what do I clutch? My abdominal muscles are aching from the coughing, and it takes both my arms to clutch them while I cough.
However, the back of my neck also aches from the coughing, so I have to relinquish the abdominal hold with one hand, to clutch the back of my neck.
But then, my head feels like my brain is crashing around inside my skull when I cough (mind you, that could explain a few things). So I need an extra couple of hands to cradle that.
And now, just to add an element of fun to the proceedings, my weak bladder has decided to add a new dimension to my day. Yes, I now now pee when I cough, causing a flailing of arms as I try to clutch my abdomen, neck, head and knickers all at once with only two arms.
Tara is coughing again at the moment, but because of laughter at my contortions this time. Cheeky kid! The move that tipped her over the edge was when I coughed as I was lifting a leg of chicken out of the fridge (wrapped, fortunately, because where that ended up, no one would fancy eating it tonight, that's for sure!!!). The resultant attempt to clutch my bladder with my right leg while balancing on my left leg and clutching both my stomach and neck, then freaking out because a cold wet something in my left hand hit my neck, well, it defies description!
Suffice to say Tara damn near wet herself too at that point!!!
Panic ensued as I threw the chicken from my hand! Who knew a chicken leg could fly! Waitrose brings your chicken back to life! Could be an interesting store motto.
Anyhoo, at least, as I said, it was bagged up, and retrievable from the dark recesses of my kitchen, and it is currently sitting demurely in a bowl waiting to be heated through. I would have tied it down, but it promised to behave itself this time. It is smothered in rosemary and garlic. That should freak my germs out, don't you think? :-)
In other news...
Had a bit of luck at the RSPCA charity shop today. Got a copy of Eagles CD - Long Walk Out of Eden for 25p. What a fabulous album!
Well, that is about it for today.
Oh, yes I did get my daily streak in, cold as it was. :-) 9 Just Dance songs, which were on my bingo cards and challenge games.
While standing in the crowded bus, I noticed a young man, who was holding onto the same pole, staring at me. Eventually, he said, "Excuse me. This is my stop."
Since I wasn't blocking his way, I was confused.
"Well," I said, "go ahead."
"And this is my pole," he said.
I was completely perplexed until the young man added, "I just bought it at the hardware store to hold up my shower curtain."
Oh, I see... Sorry about that... *bursts out laughing as the situation becomes clear to my fuddled brain, adding to the laughter from the passengers within earshot*
Have a less dramatic day than me! LOL

So I've had an average temp of 102 the last couple of days (been 14 days for me and 17 days for Tara with this bug that started as a cold and turned into flu a week later), but not been able to sleep because, although Tara is improving and has made it back to college this week - just, she still coughs for three hours before finally dropping off in the evening.
Unfortunately, I'm coughing as well, now. *hack hack hack*
I did NOT let it break my streak. The beauty of ten minutes is that it really isn't that hard to find something you can do just for ten minutes.
Did I manage to hang onto my exercise streak?
To hang in there I used Just dance 4 both days. The Just Sweat section has a selection of 10, 25 and 40 minute (iirc) workouts, so the last three days I've used different 10 minute workouts. Perfect when you are feeling cruddy, because you don't need to think, you just hit a few buttons and away you go. Ideal for a brain befogged by flu. :-)
Yesterday I went to bed at 6pm, freezing cold and shivering, and with no appetite, but eventually managed to haul myself into the kitchen a couple of hours later to boil an egg. Ate half of that and half a slice of bread and butter, and that was it for the night.
The only reason I'm telling you this is to hopefully explain my moment of dietary madness today. :-)
You see, I had a library book to return - I only managed to read about 10 shades of the 50 Shades of Grey before the relentless grammatical and editorial errors got on my nerves too much, and because it was already reserved for another borrower it had to go back today. Well, each to their own. Hope whoever has it next enjoys it more than I did. :-)
I also had Kathy Reichs first novel sitting there for me to pick up. Deja Dead. Anyone here a fan of Bones, the TV series? Kathy is not only the author but is also the real forensic anthropologist the book and TV series is based on, and I'm hoping I will enjoy her books as much as I do Tess Gerritsen (author of books about Rizzoli and Isles).
So, once I had spent a couple of hours waking up, and a couple more having a little breakfast and waiting to feel well enough to do my daily streak (and I so love the double entendres around that word *evil laugh* Nah, too cold today! LOL), I got dressed and headed into town.
By the time I'd been to the library, and a couple of other places I needed to visit, I was feeling hungry, so I popped into Greggs and snaffled a sausage roll. Then I headed for Castle Park. It was a lovely sunny day at this point, which makes a pleasant change, so I quickly wolfed down the sausage roll, and then strolled through the park, snapping points of interest (more on that momentarily).
Unfortunately, when I came out the other side I got a whiff of MacDonalds, and suddenly felt very hungry again! I walked towards the traffic lights, intending to be good and cross the road, but instead my feet, pulled by my stomach, marched straight past and into MacDonalds instead! *sigh* So I bought a cheeseburger.
And I ate it. :-)
As I walked and munched I pondered why I had felt the need, and then remembered that the last proper tummy of food I'd had was the porage for breakfast the day before. No wonder I had no control over my nomish desire. :-)

This is the largest keep ever built by the Normans (a keep is the stone tower of a castle). Its huge size is explained by its construction around the ruins of a Roman building, the temple of Claudius.
Work on the keep may have begun in 1076, and been completed around 1101. The red bricks and much of the stonework are recycled building materials quarried by the Normans from the ruins of Roman Colchester.
Originally the keep might have been higher than it is now, but the upper part was demolished 300 years ago. In the 18th century the ruin was restored by Charles Gray, the member of parliament for Colchester. He added the domed tower and the tiled roof.

This is the neighbouring cricket pitch, which the local seagull population are using as a Roman Bath at the moment. :-)
The ducks are struggling against the river current because it's much deeper and faster than usual, so they are keeping to the sides:
And on the opposite corner of the very wet cricket field, are a group of ducks who prefer a quieter lake to swim in. Those seagulls are SO rowdy!!! :-)
No wickets up for grabs at the moment. Everyone is out for a duck! ;-)
And in other news...
So, I'm sat watching the beginning of an episode of My Family this evening, and Roger has a mouthful of dental instrument sterilising liquid, which he has mistaken for mouthwash, and is looking for somewhere to spit it out, and dang if I didn't try and spit with him as he is leaning over the sink ... and dribbled the water I'd just gulped down my jumper! Sheesh!!! LOLOL
Enough of my weird empathy with sitcom characters. :-)

Still dancing! :-)
Had a little company too. Tara crawled out of her pit, coughing as usual but looking a bit brighter, and joined me for some of the dances. We may both be full of flu gunk and crud, but we are coming out fighting - kung fu fighting actually at the moment (Tara is playing it on Guitar Hero, LOL)
As a result, my resolve to do four songs from Just dance to fulfil my 10 minute exercise streak, and make a dent in my challenges turned into 11 songs! Woohoo!
That translates into more than 30 minutes of exercise. Very very pleased with that!
Seriously, if you haven't already watched Shelli's 600 day streak vlog, please do. She talks the most amazing amount of good sense, and is a true inspiration. (see my previous blog for the link).
I feel good that I did my streak today. It really sets you up, knowing that you at least managed to do this one specific thing for yourself to get your day off to a great start.
Having the company today was a bonus! :-)

Everybody loves Shelli (MOSTMOM1), right? And yesterday she celebrated Day 600 of her exercise streak!
I have always been really impressed by her commitment to Spark, and I said before that I needed to go out and buy me some post-it notes and get started on my own streak. But somehow I never got round to it.
Well, last night, reading Shelli's blog and watching her vlog, listening to what she counts towards her streak and what doesn't count, I heard something click inside and I told Tara I would head out to the shops first thing Saturday morning to buy a pack of post-its and start my own streak.
Shelli = Day 601, Lexie = Day 1.
Unfortunately, there was a large fly in the enthusiasm ointment this morning, in the shape of icky sicks. I spent half the night up with Tara while she coughed herself silly (it was after 4am when she finally fell asleep), and when I crawled out of bed this morning around 9am I discovered that I had a fever, and my throat was full of gunk - again!!! Geeze, these bugs these days just don't know when to let go, do they!!!
However, I chugged down some buttercup syrup, swallowed a couple of ibuprofen, and drank two mugs of tea, to make my throat feel less raw, munched a nutrigrain bar, and grabbed my resolve gently in both hands.
Then I opened the front door, stepped out ...
... turned and stepped right back in again! Raining! *pout*
NOT giving up!
I grabbed my brolly, and left the house again. And at the gate had an inspired thought. Why not check the local co-op first? They do have a small stationery corner, and it could save me a long walk in the rain if they have some post-its.
So I walked down there, and joy of joys, look what I found!
And with four colours! I do like a variety of colours to play with. :-)
So this is my Day 1 Post-it:
To earn this I did a 10 minute Just Sweat exercise on Just dance 4. Then, as that was two songs danced and I needed 3 to qualify for the Wii Dance For Fitness Hangman game, I decided to do one more dance.
And you know what? Shelli is right! When you decide to do ten minutes, you often end up doing more. I danced two more songs after that, even though I feel unwell. :-)
So, even though I've done no exercise to speak of for a couple of weeks what with one thing and another, I finally feel like I am getting back on track! :-)
