FFF Days 1-5 (Fri-Tue) My Walking the Coast of Britain Challenge

I have thought long and hard about what I want my pedometer steps to count towards, and I've finally decided to start at Land's End, and walk the coast of Cornwall, England, Wales and Scotland, before hopping aboard a ferry and skedaddling to Ireland and Northern Ireland to do the same thing.

I am using www.mappedometer.com/ to follow the map and see where I go each day, always following the roads and lanes nearest to the coast for maximum mileage and (hopefully) some great shots and links for my blogs.

All my FFF steps are counting towards this challenge, so here are days 1-5 with pics. :-)





DAY 1: 2.66 miles.





I started as close to the tip of the Land's End Peninsula as I could, which is pretty much exactly where this photo was taken. The spot being where the photographer was standing :-)

Then I walked to Sennen Cove:







From there, I took the Cove Road until it met up with the A30, and that was my first day.


DAY 2: 3.70 miles

From the A30, I branched off to the B3306, which runs along sections of the north Cornwall coast. I turned left at Kellynack and followed the road to the Land's End YHA (Youth Hostel Association) Hostel:

DAY 3: 3.55 miles

I reached Cape Cornwall - saved for posterity by the Heinz Baked Beans Company! I kid you not!





And well worth saving too! The scenery is stunning!







From Cape Cornwall, I continued along the coast road to Trewellard.

DAY 4: 2.60 miles

Leaving Trewellard, I walked to a wonderful attraction, the we Cornish are very proud of...

The Geevor Tin Mine Heritage Centre.





Once a working mine, it is now a very popular tourist destination, giving a valuable insight into the importance of the tin mining industry in Cornwall.

From the Mine, I then walked through Boscasswell, back to the B3306 by Borlase Park.


DAY 5: 3.95 miles (total miles so far = 16.86)

Staying on the B3306, I passed through Bojewyan, Morvah and Porthmeor (all teeny tiny hamlets), and stopped at the junction with Treen.

I shal try and post a daily update. I'm still not used to being able to get on the computer whenever I want to, so I'm not quite back in the swing of things yet. :-) But I'm getting there.

I also walked in and out of town today, getting drenched in the process. Time to grow webbed feet and hands I think. I feel like the Woman from Atlantis!!!

I know, I know, declaring a drought in England is like washing your car - an action guaranteed to make it start raining. LOL. Mother Nature will have her little joke! emoticon

    Lexie, thanks for sharing photos from your walk! Cornwall is on my list of things to do/places to see before I die. I became interested when reading the Arthurian legend...still fascinated by it so I am LOVING your virtual walk!

Thanks for that website as well. I may check it out...maybe it will inspire me to walk more.

FFF Day4. Workout with the Elder

Well, today my poor Elder outside the back door finally gave up and slid gracefully to the ground. I feel happier that it gave up of its own accord, rather than the council chopping it down, but I am still sad to see it go.

Its parting shot was giving me an upper body workout in the pouring rain, because although no damage was done, it was rather blocking our way into the garden. :-)

So now my arms are aching from the sawing with a diddy hacksaw blade - all I possess, and therefore I am definitely counting it as Upper Body Workout, though quite how I fit it into my Funky Fitness Fives I have yet to figure out. :-) Maybe I'll count the branches tomorrow and see if they are a multiple of five!

I did dance to three lots of five Black Eyed Peas songs today. And that was before the Elder fell. So I've had a pretty good cardio and upper body workout, which was what today had planned. If the Elder had to go, it certainly timed it well.

And now I'm away to me bed.

    Sorry your Elder died. I know you got a workout getting it all cleared out. I had to cut away at a dead Indian hawthorne bush in front of my house last week so I could get my shovel in and dig it out. Turned out the hardest part was cutting away the branches (it was big around) so I could get to it. When I went to dig it out, it lifted right out of the ground. LOL

Well, with a fair amount of practise and training in between, but hey, anything's possible, right? *grin*

In other news...

Stormy weather on and off for a week = building up to a stonking Migraine in the middle of the night last night. Still feeling a bit wonky actually.

However, got some FFFs in. :-)

Today, between frequent breaks, I managed to dance four lots of 5 songs (20 songs in total) from various Wii games. :-)

Granted, some were a little less vigorous effort-wise than usual, to accomodate the remnants of the headache. No head banging here today folks! :-)

Otherwise all is quiet.

Except for the stormy weather...

But holy moly, she did it!!!!

We're training for a 2 mile walk. 2 miles... So far, the farthest we've gone is 1/2 a mile. It's going to be at night, so we're hooping with our LED hoops and we get to walk over a giant purple bridge.

Check out Betty Hoops--she just did a half marathon and didn't drop the hoop once. Of course, she can also hoop and snowboard...

FunkyFitnessFives: Day 2. Facebook - Quite Boring Actually!

Well, I tried social networking, and found it Dullsville! No offence to my friends who find it helpful, and it wasn't them making it boring. I really only joined to play Words with Friends (similar to Scrabble), and most of my friends don't play it anyway! LOL



Anyway, I'm over it. I tried, it sucked, I left.



When you deactivate your account, however, you never quite leave. Save my username and password and I can reactivate it at any time. How, um, exciting!



Anyhoo, to the friends who friended me while I was there - Thankyou! :-) Sorry I didn't stay long. I think I much prefer your company here, and through our email chats. :-)

As for FFF day 2:
I've got a total of 6 FunkyFitnessFive Minutes so far (to be edited later) by completing a 30 minute Slim Down Cardio Burn with Kendall Hogan. SOOO glad they finally put it on You Tube! :-)

I also got FunkyFitnessFive Songs with The Black Eyed Peas experience on Wii.

I checked my weight this morning, and I've dropped a pound this week. That's good, because I've been heading in the wrong direction recently, and was starting to feel it. :-)

Well, I'm off to play Guitar Hero - I think. It will be interesting to see whether all the Guitar Hero toe-tapping while playing the guitar creates a step count. LOL

Hey, if I'm as enthusiastic on Guitar Hero as I am playing Air Guitar, I've got it made! *grin*

EDIT: It didn't! 200 steps for 20 mins of playtime, is no help! I had fun though!

    Lexie, I am on FB primarily because my family is spread throughout the world. It is an easy way to stay in touch because of my crazy work hours. It is also part of my job.

    I find FB quite useful - I joined a couple of community pages for the local area and I find out so much news that never gets into the local newspaper. But these pages are only as good as the people involved, so I guess I am lucky to have such active community members.

    That is awesome dropping a pound! I don't like Facebook, either but signed on quite some time ago because of the relatives were all on it. I check in so rarely I miss out on a lot of things. No one posts anything on my wall so I don't get e-mail notifications. I like Spark People better where they tell you your friends have done something. Lot easier to keep up with here.

    I hear you about FB...I use it only to keep in touch with friends/share pictures and generally stay in the know of what is happening in my friends lives. I don't spend a lot of time on it as I work on a computer all day at work, don't want to spend my life on a computer.

I met up with an old high school friend, almost 30 years of not seeing each other. Well, I found out she's a little nuts!!! She' a diabetic and wears a pump, she has MS and she smokes and drinks like a sailor!! And she calls me drunk between 10pm and 2am. Oh, I could go on but I won't!! emoticon

Day 278: Made it to John O'Groats! Day 1: New Goal Time!

Yay! I made it! It took 278 days, and an average of 3.28 miles per day, but I did it! I walked, danced and otherwise step-counted my way from Land's End to John O'Groats!



It is the second time I have completed the distance, and this time my target was 3.5 miles per day. Unfortunately, I didn't quite manage that, and thanks to pushing myself to try to, I came a cropper in the 'Injure Myself Through Overdoing It' department! So the last month has been difficult as my foot has tried to recover from my over-zealousness. (All or Nothing Girl take note!)





But, I did beat my previous best in spite of the self-sabotage at the last hurdle, and now I'm starting again, and changing my tactics a wee bit.

For example, I am not going to push to a minimum daily step target anymore. The current target is 7800 steps (about 3.5 miles), and on the days I reach that I'll be delighted, but from now on it is quality over quantity. :-)

So, here it is...





Meet the FFF (please don't let that mean anything rude! LOL)

By FFF I mean...

FUNKY FITNESS FIVES! Otherwise known as my Future Fitness Foundation!


THE ROOLZ





Not everything counts towards FFF!

ROOL 1. ALL Footsteps (another F) count to get me to John O'Groats, or wherever I'm heading this time, but...

...NOT all steps count towards FFF.

I know I've said this before, in one form or another, but I lost sight of my plans somewhere along the line. So I am revising my rules. :-)





Normal housework does not count towards FFF.
Shopping does not count towards FFF.
Walking the dog does not count towards FFF.


Otherwise...

ROOL 2: ...pretty much anything goes...

Wii Games, You Tube Exercise videos, Spark exercises and videos, exercise DVDs etc, all count. Strength training counts, even if it doesn't give me steps.

And I am counting in fives and multiples thereof.

For instance: Five Minutes of exercise (such as walking with Leslie Sansone - one mile = 15 mins or 3 Fives), or Five Songs from a dance game, or Five Reps of an Exercise (Five, ten, or 15 reps depending on intensity and my ability).

And ultimately aiming for at least 15 mins of exercise per day, but wanting more than that whenever my body is playing nice with me.

So, that's the plan! :-) And if I am tempted to slip from the FFF, here's a useful LOL to wake me up!

Today I scored 15 mins walking a fast mile with Leslie Sansone before breakfast.
