Day 92/1000 And My Gadget World makes sense again. :-)

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Yep, today my pedometer is doing as it should and faithfully recording my steps once more. Funny old thing. :-)

I am still going to reset all my data tomorrow though, because I know I won't be happy with my totals until I do. :-) So, back to Land's End and heading for John O'Groats tomorrow, with a target of an average of four miles a day to aim for this time, and a beginning daily step target of 6400, because I made my minimum 6300 every day this week, no matter what my game says. :-) It will also give me the chance to change my weight target. I'd been really pessimistic with my target the last time I set that, because I was so badly stalled, but now that there seems to be movement again, I'll be a bit more optimistic and aim for something big! :-)

So, I am looking at this slight hiccup in my stats as a blessing in disguise. :-)

I told my Son-in-Law that I live life by the motto "If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning!" That tickled him. LOL

Today I walked two miles with Leslie Sansone (32 mins),
Wii Fit Plus Rhythm Boxed - Super Advanced style twice (26 mins)
Just Danced to 12 songs. (36 mins)

I tried frozen soya beans for the first time tonight. I don't like soya beans. Well, I don't mind the flavour, but the texture leaves something to be desired. Did not really work as a side veg with my chilli tonight. So now I have an almost full bag of frozen soya beans and am wondering what to do with them, because I can't just throw them out. Soya Bean smoothie anyone? Not you Carla! Can't have you dropping off! emoticon
Who knew Soya beans can make some people sleepy? Hands up! :-)

Might make a veggie soup and throw them in that. Hmmm...

Any ideas for ways to use them up are welcome. :-) Send your ideas on a postcard. LOL

Hope your weekend is going well. Wanda has sunshine at last, so that's a start! :-)

Oh, and Essential Waitrose Carrot Cake Slices are 95 calories of nomiliciousness! :-)
The perfect little treat
when you fancy something sweet. :-)

Have fun!

Never had soya beans (you don't mean SOY beans, do you?) and it doesn't sound like I want to have them. Glad your gadget is working again. What's your favorite dance on Just Dance 2?

NO thank you on the soya beans! They made me feel much worse than sleepy....I felt like I hadn't had sleep in days. My whole body and mind felt extremely exhausted, and I'm seriously not exaggerating one bit. UGH x1 million!

Sounds like another awesome run of fitness!! Glad your stepper is working again! None of mine ever came back from the dead, would take a higher power, I think..
4 bean salad would be my suggestion as crispy texture is what you want in that. Mix enough other stuff in it so it all evens out.. Mom uses apple cider vinegar, oil and sugar for a marinade with dill and a touch of chipotle for some extra kick to it. Chick Peas, kidney beans, onions, red peppers, and some other bean -can be black beans, navy garbanzo, just about anything and sometimes just get a colourful mixture. This is a good high protein salad you can put on any greens in lieu of salad dressing to spice it up!
Have a Super Sunday!

Day 91/1000 Grrr...

Friday, July 15, 2011

Rant Alert... But I'll feel better afterwards. :-)

It's been ONE OF THOSE DAYS!!! First off, TOM kicked in 4 days early, AGAIN! Not feeling the best as a result. Dizzy, tired, aches and pains. You get the picture. :-(

Then, after dragging a Very Heavy Wilbur full of groceries home from Waitrose (3044 steps worth of walking, and some strength training from the pull) I went to check how far short of my step target I was, and my Active Health game tells me the pedometer battery is low. It tells me I've walked 3044 steps, and then promptly dies!

Now, I'm not complaining that it died. I've had this game since around June 2009, and have used it every single day since. The battery is the same one I started with, which - considering they reckoned the average life span of a battery is six months with this game - is pretty amazing! :-)

No, the reason I'm complaining is that when I replaced the battery it threw a sizeable spanner in the works. After putting away the groceries and having lunch, I decided to make up the remaining 3256 steps I needed to meet my target with a good old run at Just Dance and Just Dance 2.

I danced to ten songs, and then went to see how close I was to my target. I pressed the button, and it gave me just over 2000 steps, so I only had a thousand left to go, BUT it had erased the 3044 I'd already earned! So I figured, well, never mind, I know I've done them, and a few more songs will set me over the 6300 no problem. I'll just have to accept that today it won't tell me I met my target. I can live with that. :-)

I danced five more songs, and went to add the steps to the collection. And it refused to admit I'd done anymore than the 2000 it already gave me! I switched the game off and on again, and did everything I could think of but the pedometer refused to budge!

I got upset. It was enough to lose my oven this week. I don't need anything else throwing a wobbly on me. So I went into the options menu of the game, and one of the options was 'use new pedometer' so I clicked it, thinking that maybe that would kickstart it properly. All that did was lose me an entire week's worth of data! *headdesk!*

By this time it was 8.30pm, and my planned ratatouille to go with the salmon was no longer an option, because it would take too long to cook. So, muttering and moaning, a very snappy and irritable Lexie went into the kitchen. I gradually calmed down as I peeled spuds and carrots and set the meal cooking sans ratatouille, and I read the booklet for the game between turning the salmon fillet and checking the veggies. (Of course, now my fruit and veggie count is two short because the ratatouille was going to get me up to my five-a-day and beyond! *sigh*)

Anywhooo, in between cooking I did the test walk in the extras section of the game, and it recorded my steps , so I'm hoping that tomorrow the pedometer will be back to normal. If not, my last resort will be resetting all my data back to scratch, which will mean losing the rest of my progress between Land's End and John O'Groats. But as I already lost 6 days data from it anyway, that won't be quite such a wrench, because missing data and losing twenty or more miles from my total, which has seriously messed up my daily average is going to annoy me far more. LOL

Plus it won't be the first time I've reset the game from scratch!

OK, so when it comes to stuff like this, I'm a bit of a stickler for accuracy! Yep, I am a control freak when it comes to my stats! *grin* I admit it! And I can't tell you how relieved I am that I keep a written daily record too, because at least I still have my week's stats on paper. Nah nah nah nah nah *sticks tongue out at Active Health game in time honoured childish manner* LOLOLOL

See? I told you getting this out of my system and into blogland would make me feel better. :-)

So, I may well reset my stats on Sunday morning anyway, and start again. I'll see how I feel after tomorrow.

And, as you may have gathered, I walked the Waitrose circuit and danced to 15 Just Dance and Just Dance 2 songs today. :-)

And the Salmon was nommilicious! :-)

And the weekend's here! :-)

And I am more than ready for bed!
Night all! :-)

I'm glad you had your journal! We got Just Dance 2 on Saturday and there are some fun dances on there. Mostly I got to watch my daughter and my granddaugter dance to them (I need a 3rd controller and a larger living room!). But it was quite entertaining and I figured out the dances I want to practice with. I think their favorites were the Bollywood duet and that jungle dance. Hilarious.

( which is why I only ave bronze piggy ) it thinks I have only been on it a fraction of the time I have really been on... so what?

Now, if you had had a pedometer failure and had no idea of the figure before it koncked out. That is annoying, mine has fallen off a time or two and zeroed its self . can you believe it .. the STUPID thing!! .. HOW dare it...

Days 87-90 How time flies when you're having fun! :-)

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Every day I think, "must quickly blog before bed", and yet the evening slips away, and the next thing I know it is midnight, and I'm yawning fit to bust!

Well, tonight it is 11.55pm, and I made it, just! *grin*

The Potted Exercise Version:

Day 87: Monday:

No Wii! Shock Horror!
Instead, Walked the Tesco Extra trek, followed by the Waitrose Circuit, and my hips found that to be quite enough for one day. That was well over 5 miles on foot. :-)

Day 88: Tuesday:

A Push Myself Day...
Zumba - 6 routines (26 mins)
Just dance and Just Dance 2 = 8 songs (24 mins)
36 assorted Wii Fit Plus Yoga, and Muscle exercises, and Games (1 hour 22 mins)

Day 89: Wednesday:

Zumba - 6 routines (23 mins)
Just Dance and Just dance 2 - 6 songs (18 mins)
Wii Fit Plus Yoga and Muscle challenge (16 mins)
Waitrose and back (30 mins)

Day 90: Thursday:

Pet Store and back - 3435 steps (30 mins)
Zumba - 6 routines - 3088 steps (28 mins)
Just Dance and Just dance 2 - 10 dances - 2419 steps (30 mins)

You'll never guess! I'm so excited! Zumba classes are starting up at Highwoods in September, behind the Tesco Extra store in the community centre. At 4 a pop, I might be able to afford them. Of course, doing Zumba in front of other people is a little trickier! LOL I've never been too sure about classes, and on top of that, the walk up there will be bad enough alone, but the walk back, in the dark, alone, with legs all wobbly after 45 mins of dancing manically, well, that could be even trickier. *grin*

Still, the choice is there, and ain't that something! :-)

AND there are Zumba classes opening up elsewhere in Colchester too. The local Leisure World has them now! At 5 a pop! And at a more convenient time for me. The only problem is that they are fully booked currently (and I'm currently beyond broke as well).

Plenty to think about though. Hmmm....

Food is bang on apart from I am a whole gram short of my minimum protein today. Oh oh! :-) Well, I think the loads I'll get tomorrow from the salmon will make up for it. Tara spent her pocket money on salmon pate and a salmon fillet this week. Bless her little heart, she toddled down to Waitrose today, I assumed to buy herself a magazine and some sweets, and instead, that's what she came back with. A foodie treat for two, to contribute to the dwindling finances. :-)

Do I have a lovely daughter, or do I have a lovely daughter. :-)

Well, have a great what's left of today, and a lovely tomorrow, and a Wonderful Weekend. :-)

Yes, you have a lovely daughter.
I got my Wii Fit Plus out of the box last night and set it up this morning before work. After all the questions I only had time for three minutes of basic steps, but it really looks like something I'm going to get into!!! I cannot ever imagine keeping up with you, though! An actual Zumba class might really be fun, it's too bad about the walking back after dark. You'll figure it out.

Great fitness again!! I envy you being close enough to go to a ZUMBA class. Other than Curves (from which I am still on medical leave from and won't get off now that the dreaded foot surgery is coming up), I have nothing at all close, and the fitness center nearest me has none at all :( In fact they have no cardio at all which is really disappointing to a cardio junkie like me.
You would be best riding a bike to the class rather then walking, would be a bit easier on the old wobbly legs, get a load off anyway.
Keep up the fantastic work!
Score one for the sweet daughter!! Enjoy your nummies!!

Days 84-86/1000 Playing with my weight again. :-)

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Day 84: Friday

Wii Fit Plus Cycling (the 30 minute free cycling option). I finally cheated. I let Tara look up online to find out where the missing balloons were that I couldn't find. I had found 17/20, and for the life of me couldn't find the last 3. So today I found them, thanks to some kind soul who had listed them online, and did the whole 20 balloons popped in 25 1/2 minutes, then spent the last 4 1/2 mins cycling in circles on the beach so that I can start there next play. I love that it starts you off exactly where your last ride finished. :-)

Wii Fit Plus: 3 Yoga poses: Sun Salutation, Warrior and Half Moon

Wii Zumba: four routines (19 minutes)

Wii Sports Tennis (15 mins)

Professor Attila's Dumbbell exercises (approx 15 mins, and using 3lb weights, not 5lb ones) Did the first ten exercises, but only ten reps each cos they are hard work and I need to build them up! :-) A friend gave me this link ages ago, and it is a great selection of dumbbell exercises, designed for policemen as a daily exercise routine. :-)

If he doesn't appeal, you can always try one of the other publications from The Golden Age of Iron Men. There is even a book on exercising in bed for those really lazy days! LOL

Day 85: Saturday

Wii Fit Plus Rhythm Boxing Super Advanced. It says ten minutes when you start, but you get credited with 13 minutes if you really make the effort with it, and I love it! :-) (13 mins)

Wii Just Dance: Bingo and Challenge: 11 songs (33 mins)

Wii Zumba: 6 routines (24 mins)

Wii Fit Plus Muscle (27 mins):

Single Leg Extension - 20 reps per leg
Torso and Waist Twists - 6 reps each
Lunge - 20 reps per leg
Rowing Squat - 45 reps
Single Leg Twist - 20 reps per leg
Sideways Leg Lift - 20 reps per leg
Tricep Extension - 20 reps per arm
Balance Bridge - 6 reps per leg
Side Lunge - 20 reps per leg
Single Leg Reach - 6 reps per leg

Wii Fit Plus games (14 mins):

Skateboard Arena Advanced
Bird's-eye Bull's-eye Advanced
Segway Super Advanced
Rhythm Parade Advanced

Day 86: Sunday

Wii Fit Plus Lotto Challenge (16 mins):

Hula Hoop
Step Basic
Balance Bubble Advanced
Snowboard Slalom Advanced
Driving Range - Iron
Tilt Table Plus
Segway Beginner

Wii Zumba: 6 routines (25 mins)

Leslie Sansone One Mile Cardio Slimdown (20 mins)

That will likely be it for today, seeing as I pushed myself really hard yesterday.

Food was totally on track. Low end of ranges and tasty to boot. Had some grilled salmon last night, which was utterly nommy. Normally I would wrap it in foil with a dab of butter and bake it, but my oven is playing up. It lights, but the thermostat or whatever it is that makes the gas reach the temp it is supposed to doesn't seem to be working. The oven still warms, but not by much, so *ooops - dashes off* .........

OK, I'm back. Typing this just reminded me that I defrosted a chicken thigh overnight to cook in the oven to see if the temp still gets high enough at the very top of the oven for that at least. :-) But I forgot to put it in. DOH! Well, it's in there now, and if it doesn't cook through I'll finish it off under the grill. Either way I hope for a chicken butty shortly. LOL

Darn that money is so tight I can't afford to get the oven fixed. *pouts and stamps foot* Still, there are ways around most meals, so it's not the end of the world. I still have the grill and the hob and the microwave (she says keeping fingers firmly crossed)

Water intake is fine. So much easier to drink water in the summer, and especially when getting loads of exercise. I must be close to my eight glasses already today. Let's see.... One glass before my cereal, and another after it. One bottle (2 glasses)of water during Zumba, and another during the Cardio Slimdown, and a glass while I was in the bath. yep. By the end of my chicken butty I'll have had 9, and there's still the evening meal 2 glasses to go. :-)

Weight is good. I decided to change my weigh-in day to Saturday morning from now on. This is partly because my week goes from Sunday to Saturday, so it makes more sense to weigh at the end of my week, instead of the start, and partly because if I am going to eat late and skew my weight as a result, it is more likely to happen on a Saturday or Sunday night, so Saturday morning hopefully avoids that hiccup. Had not realised until getting the Wii Fit Plus that eating late can do that, so it is educational too. :-)

So, having made the decision, I weighed in yesterday morning at 12 stone 8 3/4lbs (176.75lbs). I was thrilled with that, being down another 1 1/4 pounds! :-)
But this morning, I couldn't resist popping back on again out of curiosity, and unbelievably, I'd lost 3/4lb more! I weighed in today at 12 stone 8 lbs exactly! LOL
Do you think my scales are trying to tell me something? *grin*
If I hadn't had a sneaky peek I could have missed a whole 3/4 of a pound and missed the fact that over the last seven days I dropped

Yep, I dropped a bag of sugar! What a mess, and it takes for ever to clean up! LOL *kidding!*

So now I'm in a quandary. Do I change the day I weigh or not. Decisions, decisions! LOL

Hmmm... the chicken thigh's had 20 mins so far, and you'd think it never saw an oven! LOL I think this is going to be a failed experiment. :-) I will miss a good roast dinner, but I know how to make fake roast potatoes, so that helps. :-)

Ah well, that's life. *sigh*

Well, off to fill in some stats in team challenges before I stop typing to watch some TV. We are spoiled today. The Witches of Oz mini series, followed by Marley and Me (which we haven't seen yet), and then the second series of Royal Pains, which I love! :-)

Hope your Sunday is shaping up nicely.

May the clouds break Wanda!!! Sending some sunshine your way.

Wow you sure are exercising a lot, good for you. I have become somewhat of a slug, I'm blaming it on my bad hip, but really that is only partly true. emoticon

I was invited to join the 2011 Summer 5% Challenge which starts July 16. It has motivated me to figure out some exercises I can do so I won't let me team down. Found some chair exercises I can do and I need to do some strength training, especially my arms so I will be ready to be mobile after surgery.

Anyway you continue to inspire me. Hope you are able to get your oven repaired soon.

Reached Day 83/1000. + 1 Gold FitPiggy and 1 Unexpected Visitor

Thursday, July 07, 2011

I'm back, more or less. Have you missed me? LOL

Boy have I been poorly! Tara went down with the same lurgy a few days after me, so we have both been coughing, sneezing, with throats like coarse sandpaper, and sinuses that, well, I don't need to go into details, I'm sure. Dratted bug caused so much trouble, and even though we would feel better one day, we'd wake up the next back at square one. Whatever happened to predictable colds and flu that followed a specific pattern and then cleared? :-)

So, I haven't posted any stats since Day 70. Two weeks of sickness will disruptutate our tranquality, that's for sure. ;-)

Well, it would be an insanely long list if I put in everything I've done in the last fortnight, so the potted version is that I have done at least ten minutes of exercise every single day, even if my step count left a bit to be desired for several days.

I've walked quite a few miles with Leslie Sansone.

I've danced myself as legless as the bug allowed, keeping up with my Bingo challenges, and my Zumba challenge. Fortunately for me I had a week off those challenges last week when the bug was at its worst, thanks to having already got the whole four weeks for June up to date.

And also - which will come as no surprise whatsoever - I've spent a lot of time on the Wii Fit Plus. LOL. So much so that I've now got a Gold FitPiggy for doing 40 hours of exercise. :-)

I updated my fitness tracker with two weeks worth of exercise yesterday. :-)

My nutrition has been on the low end of my range for the most part, and a bit below the low end on occassion. Better that than over the top! :-) I only had one bad fat day in two weeks, and reached my protein minimum every single day!

So, all in all not bad considering. :-)

My weight went back up. *pout* But I wouldn't accept it. LOL I gained 3/4 of a pound back out of the 3 1/2lbs I lost three weeks ago, and was ok about blaming that on TOM. However, on Sunday the scale claimed I'd gained another 1 1/2lbs. Well, I wasn't having that! Oh no! I'd eaten late the night before, and was fairly sure that was the reason, so I weighed myself the following morning after eating at a normal time, and I was right! I had really stayed at 12 stone 10lbs - the same as the previous week. So, I'm still down overall. :-)

So, we've been largely stuck in the house for a fortnight, aside from the occasional foray to Waitrose for supplies. The house becomes somewhat, um, samey after a while, with the daily routine barely varying from get up, cough up a lung, eat what one can manage, go back to bed, cough up the other lung while trying to get to sleep.

Sophie, bless her, has put up with a largely inactive family who would occasionally muster the oomph to stroll into the garden to throw a few tennis balls, or kick a football about in the ever growing grass that threatened to engulf the garden completely. Sophie isn't the smallest dog in the world, but she was disappearing into the grass every time she went for the ball. :-)

Sometimes she would come and sit by me while I played on the Jigidi website (jigsaw puzzles) to while away the time between sneezes and coughs. I would absent-mindedly put my hand down and stroke her while my eyes were scanning the jigsaw pieces for the next fit.

So, the day before yesterday, after managing to gather the strength to actually get the strimmer out and get half the lawn down to a manageable height (and find a few missing tennis balls in the process) I was sitting at the computer, on Jigidi, and as I played I saw the usual brown blur at my side, so down went my hand automatically to stroke Sophie, only to connect with something that didn't feel quite right to the touch.

As I turned my head the brown blur moved further into the living room. I swivelled around in my chair, and came face to face with not one, but TWO dogs! You know the old cliche of rubbing your eyes and having another look, and they are still there? I did that! LOL

At first I thought it was Chucky, my neighbour's dog, but then I spotted the white sock and groaned. It wasn't Chucky. It was his brother, Gizmo the escapologist! You may have heard of this famous escapologist. No garden can hold him. This is a dog who can dig a circular hole in a wooden fence and make his escape, only to reappear at a boozer a mile away, being feted by the locals with bowls of prize bitter and very large bones, while the owner is frantically driving round the entire area trying to find him, and could really USE a drink!!! LOL.

Gizmo belongs to my neighbour's daughter, and my neighbour looks after him for her when she is at work. One of the fence panels was already partially demolished, so Gizmo found it very easy to burrow through and follow Sophie into our house! Chucky, the good dog, meanwhile, remained on his own side of the fence, whining for Gizmo to come back. :-) Well, to be fair, Giz was very good and followed me out to the fence and went back through when I told him to.

While I'm shouting for my neighbour to let her know what happened, Gizmo rushes into the house and into his bed, cos he knows he is in trouble!

Meanwhile Jackie comes out, gives a despairing look at what is left of the fence panel, and turns to Gizmo with murder in her eyes!

Tara and I both agree this mop bears a startling resemblance to our neighbour when she is in a paddy. *grin*

Her garden is littered with the remnants of fence panels Giz has demolished in his determination to wander off, and this was looking like the last straw for her, not to mention his last breath if I didn't defuse the situation quickly. Fortunately, my jokey retelling of how Gizmo took me by surprise calmed her and made her laugh, so Gizmo lives to demolish another day, but I think my neighbour needs to get her daughter to cough up for some new fence panels! Preferably reinforced with steel! LOL

I would suggest concrete, but having been the proud owner of my own escapologist - a dobey named Luka, who dug through a partition wall into our downstairs shower room to escape her bedroom - I know concrete won't hold Giz for long. :-)

So, the high excitement of our fortnight was Giz's visit. Gives you some idea of the paint-drying boredom we've been suffering in our illness. And this is why I didn't blog. You guys didn't need two weeks of "Did this exercise - blew my nose eighty times - sneezed fifty times - ate something - tried to sleep - coughed for two hours"- repeat ad nauseum. LOL

Hope all has been well in Sparkland and beyond. I'm catching up with you all bit by bit. Thank the gods for Sparkteams with challenges that at least encouraged me to exercise a bit every day, and a Wii that made getting some exercise a pleasure even when feeling bad.

take care,
Lex xxx

Yes, you were missed! So glad you're feeling better enough to be back here. I'm impressed that you managed to do at least 10 minutes of exercise each day and that you did well with your nutrition, too.

Too funny that Gizmo slipped into your house with Sophie! Loved reading your telling of that. And this had me really giggling: "You guys didn't need two weeks of "Did this exercise - blew my nose eighty times - sneezed fifty times - ate something - tried to sleep - coughed for two hours"- repeat ad nauseum. LOL"

I am so glad that you are back!! Better than that though is that you are feeling better. It sounds like it was a wicked weeks. I am very lucky not to have to deal with escape artists...mind you hard for a 165lb Great Dane to dig a hole big enough to escape through....teeheehee

Love the angry mop! Sounds like Gizmo's visit was an adventure that ended safely for all. He certainly added some much needed excitement into your life...lol

Have a great day!

Good to has ye back Lexxxxxx. My parents dog 'Pluto' was an amazing escapology expert! And soon learned not to let you see his latest escape route, because it would be fixed so he couldn't get out that way again.
You could watch him for ages and he would stay in the garden, turn your back and 'poof' gone!!
