Porage Division Question

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

QUESTION:

What is the quickest and most effective way of making porage for two in the microwave and evenly dividing it so that each person gets a fair share?

ANSWER:

Leave the microwave on full blast until half of the porage has overflowed onto the microwave plate, that's how!!!

I'll leave to your imagination the look on my face when I opened the microwave door and saw what had happened. *grin*

See kids? I keep telling you I am losing my mind. You just won't believe me though, will you. Well, now you have proof! LOLOL

Incidentally, Tara ate was was left in the bowl. I got the spilllage for breakfast. It was edible, but I think I'll stick to more conventional methods of sharing the porage in future. It'll also save on the washing up! *grin*

In less messy news...

Highwoods was just beautiful this morning. Sophie and I went to the Pets At Home store first, to weigh her and get her some teeth-cleaning treats. While I was there I checked that I could redeem Baker's vouchers there. You see, I got a phone call last night from the Bakers Team, asking if I would like vouchers instead of food deliveries for the remaining nine months of my prize. (Remember that Year's Supply of Baker's Complete Dog Food I won back in November?) The beauty of the vouchers means that I can buy any Baker's products I want to - food and treats - between now and 31st December this year. The value of the vouchers is around 250, so that's a lot of food and treats! :-) If I stick with deliveries, I will just get her meals and have to buy treats myself. I like the voucher arrangement instead, and the store is happy to accept them, so we are delighted! :-)

After that, and discovering that I'm not the only one who has put on weight, we headed to Highwoods for a brief walk along the path before going home. We walked as far as the Narnia Lampost (remember my winter blog pics?) then walked into Boat Field and walked back alongside the path in what was a bone dry field. It is so good to see dry mud at last!

Tree and field shots:

CATKINS!!!

It was a very pleasant walk. :-)

Have a porage-explosion-free day Everyone! *grin*

emoticonWhen that used to happen to me there was never anything left--everything was stuck like glue (or oat scented cement!) to the bottom-top-sides of the microwave!...of course I only had one serving in it, my ex didn't like oats! LOL

Thanks for the memories! LOL

LOVE the countryside... I live in the city, in a neighborhood where you don't walk unless you have no choice, so my exercise is mostly indoors--I ENVY you, girl! I'll bet Sophie loves it too!...

You have a wonderful life, and a great sense of humor--thanks for sharing it with us!

I have had that type of explosion in my microwave too! Not at all fun to clean.

So glad that you can get the voucher for Sopie - yummy treats for her!

Thanks for posting the pictures of your walk - it looks lovely. We've had a reverse in the weather. Yesterday we had a high of 70, and this morning it is 32! Brrrrr!

Hope you have a lovely day!

Have a great evening.

Oh yes, been there, done that, cleaned the microwave and cussed! So our Sophie will need to take you on vigorous walks to get her girlish figure back? Those vouchers are great! I so LOVE those trees on your walk, Lex. There isn't a park within walking distance from my house and the few that are in the area are so dangerous, even the cops steer clear of them. Such a pity! It's a good thing Hitchcock didn't think of Cats - they're not evil... they just plot to take over the world! Hehehehe! (My evil cackle...)

I find it so easy and quick to do oatmeal in the microwave! But you can't ever leave it, boils up in 10 seconds! I just give it ten second increments until its done. My plastic cup has easy clean up.. No waste, no messy pots, just eat it out of my cup (its a measuring cup).
Gorgeous photos!!
That is wonderful about the vouchers!!
You have yourself a fantastic day!

Oh dear! I find it easier to make the porridge in the pan. Actually, I can do it that way quicker than my boyf does his Oats so Simple in the Microwave - he is very precise with measuring even though you just empty the sachet then fill the sachet with milk and empty it into the bowl with the oats. He makes it hard work I think.

Beautiful photos... Spring is wonderful and so lovely to see it in evidence. We are very lucky aren't we?

Swingball!!!

I ordered it on Sunday, and it arrived this afternoon. I unpacked it, set it up, and Tara and I have been playing with it ever since! Well, mostly Tara actually. She has never played it before and is having a whale of a time. She won't play against me yet though. She wants to get in some practice first. Don't know why. I only played it once before, at a friend's house, when I was about ten! I'm hardly great at it myself! LOLOL

Action shots:

Ball dog is sad, because there is no 'fetch' required:

Awww, poor Sophie. Never mind. I'll hit some of her balls down the garden for her. That's better :-)

Or perhaps not so much! LOL

In other exciting news:

'Ne'er cast a clout till May be out'

The May (Hawthorn) blossom is out at Highwoods!

Yay! The May is out, so we can take off our winter wear at last! Some people think it means the month of May, but logically that doesn't make sense to me, as May itself can be a very warm month, so you would hardly want to keep your winter woollies on until the end of May.

The May blossom is a much more logical choice for this saying, as Hawthorn is about the most common hedgerow plant in the UK, and is easily recognised when the blossom bursts into bloom. Also, it tends to blossom when the weather, and consequently the earth, starts to warm up.

It is out very early this year. We still have over a week of March to go! I'm not complaining though. The winter has had us in its grip for way too long! :-)

So, will I get to play Swingball again today? *goes and peers out of the kitchen window* Unlikely! Tara is imagining a Quidditch game with the Swingball, in between batting balls down the garden for Sophie. Looks like I'm crocheting again! LOL

Have a great day everyone!

Oh you make me want to play too! Here it was called Totem Tennis, if it's the same thing, lol. A tennis ball attached to a post with a swivel attachment at the top. I only played once or twice when I was young, but now it really looks like a lot of fun, lol. Only trouble is Ned would have the post eaten in a day or so, the rubber attaching the ball to the post would only take a second, and he can chew through a tennis ball in under 5 minutes. Sadly, his 'dark side', aka Destructo Dog, is flourishing... Larry my handmower is now without the tread on one wheel, the clothesline is no longer able to be used - he pulls everything down and chews it to boot, and the handle is now partially digested. They are Destructo Dog's good points. Ned on the other hand, is an absolute angel, gentle, loving, quiet, happy and smiling (yep, he smiles) 100% of the time. Just wondering how to rid him of his DD alter-ego....

Never heard of this game. In school, we played something called tetherball, but it was a volleyball sized thing we hit with our hands and who ever could get it wound around the pole first would win. It was hard hitting and sometimes you could get a good whack upside the head or a crunchy fingers pinch, but it was exciting.
Enjoy!! Its always fun to have something new to do!

That looks like fun! Maybe Tara will let you play every now and then. :)

The talk of May blossom and taking winter woollies off reminds me that when I was a kid, my mother would not allow us to wear shorts or go barefoot outside until May 1. I'm not sure where she got that "rule" from, but it was hard to still abide by considering we can get very warm in April (and even March).

Blue Tits!

Monday, March 21, 2011

A few weeks ago, my neighbour put up a nesting box on the corner of her house extension:

She bought it from the shop at Highwoods. A week or two later a pair of Blue Tits moved in. :-) The beauty of this is that I have a bird's eye view (pun very much intended) of their front door from my back door. LOL. I can also see clearly from my kitchen window.

We have had Blue Tits in the garden before, but never nesting this close. Now they are discovering the convenience of a home close to noms. :-)

From their new home in my neighbour's garden, it is barely a hop to the honeysuckle...

followed by a skip to the bay tree...

ending with a jump to the bird table in my garden...

I wasn't aware that Blue Tits would feed off tables, but I was watching them this morning and this was the routine they followed repeatedly, taking turns...

Honeysuckle to Bay Tree to table, grab seed and retreat to Honeysuckle, chew, swallow, repeat. :-)

So cute! :-) Can't wait for the babies to arrive. :-)

In other news, what is going on electronically? At different times in the last twenty four hours I have lost access to opening new tabs on my browser, lost access to my emails, lost access to Sparkpeople, lost my TV connection and lost my internet connection. It all seems to be back now, but what a palaver! One thing, quite literally, after another!

A lot of it must have been related to the changes Virgin Media are making. Don't these companies ever follow the adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'? Sheesh! To cap it all their new sign-in page for my emails doesn't have the capacity for remembering me, and MY capacity for remembering passwords is low, so you can imagine the fun now. LOL. I have a number of different passwords for various websites, and most of them are variations on the same theme. I can spend many happy (not) hours working out which variation goes with which site! LOL

Oh, and I am hugely tired today. Didn't get much sleep last night for some reason, and as a result I've been lagging behind all day *she types while yawning*. Oh for an early night! :-)

I did go walkies with Sophie this morning, but that has been the extent of my activity. Spent some time crocheting, which was nice, and now I'm sparking and waiting for Cold Case and Glee, and New Two and a Half Men, and Mike and Molly. Then I shall crawl into bed, good book optional, and try and get a good night's sleep. :-)

Enjoy your Monday! :-)
Hugs,
Lex xxx

I will willingly swap two pair of plovers and three pair of magpies for your blue tits! Its just the beginning of autumn here, well ok, almost a month into it, lol, but this is way earlier than usual for these birds to be flying in pairs, being back at their regular nesting sites, and swooping me, my car, the cats, the dogs, anyone silly enough to enter my property or walk past on the footpath....
What's worse is that they nest right over the other side of the railway line, at least 150 feet away from the nearest part of my land, but they seem to have the need to show who's boss just at present. Just glad I don't have any kids visit, because magpies use their strong beaks as revenge on anyone trespassing on their area, while the plovers use the spurs on their legs/feet/ankles (do birds have ankles? hmmmm, lol) to tear the flesh of intruders.

No Active Health Medal this week. :-)

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Oh dear! This is the first time since I started playing the game a couple of years ago that I haven't earned a single medal!!!

Active Health, not so active, actually! :-)

It was a very bad week exercise-wise, and my weight went up a little too, so no medal for me. (I would put in a sad face here, but the truth is that I am laughing because the game never asks why it was a bad week. You can't make any excuses. Either you made your step count or you didn't. Either you weigh less than last week or you don't.)

Actually, it was a bad week because I forgot to wind up my body's mechanism, so it went kaputy on me midweek, leaving me with a mini mountain to climb. Couldn't climb it - vertigo - so I phutted. LOL. (Translation - TOM and Costo finally caught up with me, after me giving them a damn good run for their money, and they made me rest for a coupla days and then work SLOWLY back to full steam ahead)

That's life! :-)

Stuck with my freggies, water, and Nutrition though, and did pretty darned good over all:

Calories in range 6/7 and only 36 calories over on the seventh day!

Fat in range 6/7 and only ONE gram over on the seventh day!

Carbs in range 7/7 days!

Protein in range 6/7 and only ONE gram under the seventh day! Look at me almost achieving perfection with my proteins! LOL

Freggies at leat 5 a day 7/7
Water at least 8 glasses 7/7

Oh My Gosh! That is the closest I've ever come to a perfect score on my Nutrition for the week! That is AMAZING!!!

Yah Boo! Sucks to you Active Health Medals!!! *grin*

Now, if only I can manage to balance the Nutrition AND the Exercise this week. That would be a real Win Win! :-)

Hope you like the changes I've made to my Sparkpage. :-) Spring Mark II for the Equinox. :-)

This evening I am vegging in front of the TV while eating my dinner, followed by crocheting, and meanwhile watching two episodes of Monk (love him), Cougartown, Hot in Cleveland, Law and Order SVU, and Rookie Blue. (I love to multitask. LOL)

Sunday is suddenly my busiest TV night of the week for all new episodes.

Well, it balances out. Saturday only had one show for me - CSI New York. :-)

Oh, and...
Wasn't Comic Relief on Friday night just an amazing evening? We gave up and went to bed at 1 am, before the really rude stuff came on. LOL

Total on the night was something like 75 million!!! A total record donation total!

I think that merits another

Enjoy what's left of the weekend. :-)

Lex xxx

Can't be perfect all the time, and you with those 'almost there' scores were just so close! I have problems with protein at times, cos of not eating meat, not always being able to buy fresh fish, and limited non-meat options at our two supermarkets, but I think you've done really well.
As the cat in one of your pics says, 'Fun now, sparkly poopz later. Its a win-win.'
Wishing you lots of 'sparkly poopz' later, lol. (Maybe make that Spark points?)

With my Italian friends we often laugh at the English custom of stripping down to tiny vests and shorts at the first sign of sun, regardless of temperature.

I had to laugh at myself when, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, I was out in my friend's garden in Nottingham like a shot, to soak up the sun, still in my pjs :D

We have a clothes line, but I have never used it for laundry! I used it last year to hang basil bushes on after I washed them. They needed to dry before I picked the leaves for pesto. Maybe this is the year to try laundry.

Nice pics, Lex! I want a laundry line for spring, fall, and sometimes winter use. Summer use? No thanks...too humid for stuff to dry AND for me to be out there messing about with it. LOL

I would love to have a clothes line in my back yard. I'm going to see about that this summer.

Have a great day,

You are having lovely days, while for the last 2 days at my course we all sat in extra clothing layers and with the heating on, and shivered! I even ate lunch inside two days running! Enjoy your wonderful spring, and thanks for your usual dose of laughs, as well. emoticon
