Walking Plan day 4

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

10 minute walk today. It was weird though. My legs didn't want to work, they felt like jelly and it was an effort to put one foot in front of the other for most of the walk. I pushed through it though. I refuse to be so feeble that I can't walk for ten minutes! I think it may be that my lower body got worked hard yesterday and decided to rebel this morning.

I set Active Health to record the walk today. I set it off and left it inside my front door to record while I'm out:
Pace - 21 minute mile
Calories burned - 49
Steps - 1221
Time - 0:11:17

It will be interesting to keep doing that for the 52-week Walking Plan to see how I (hopefully) improve as the year goes along.

Today I need to read through what to do for the 28 day boot camp challenge which I clicked to join not really knowing what I'm letting myself in for. As I actually did day 1 yesterday, I can legitimately skip it today which would be my proper day 1 (I think) and continue tomorrow, so apart from my walk to Waitrose (avoiding the jam and cream doughnuts this week) for the shopping, I think I'll rest today. Give my legs a chance to recover.

I really am pushing myself at the moment. I want to see what I can do in spite of my health. Also the doc tells me that walking will help some of my problems so that in itself is a good reason to push on.

Have a great sparky day everyone!
Hugs,
Lex xxx

Walking Plan day 3

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

No walk scheduled for day 3 of the Walking Plan

So today I have managed:

25 minute walk on the Waitrose circuit (includes shopping for milk which I could have got at the corner shop but took the extra distance instead)
10 minute Bootcamp Day 1 (Thinking of joining the Bootcamp challenge)
6 minutes Hips, Glutes and Thighs video
10 minutes (first two segments) of 20 minute Dumbbell Video
15 minutes mini trampoline

It all adds up to two miles (approx 4400 steps) That is three days in a row I've managed a minimum of two miles! When I gave myself the challenge of a minimum of 14 miles a week, I didn't think I could do it, but I am feeling rather more confident now that I am approaching midweek and doing this well so far.

I am also trying very hard to stick to my favourite team's challenges this week.
British Comedy Lovers are so friendly and supportive that they make doing your best for the team a delight! They also help you fit a healthy dose of laughter into your day - Laughter is the best medicine, to borrow from my favourite page in the Readers' Digest when I was a kid.

I hope all my Sparkfriends and Sparkteams are having a good day!

Walking Plan - Day 2 and artistic neighbours need shoes too

Monday, July 12, 2010

Today I did:

10 minutes walking (WP - day 2)
45 minutes walking just over 2 miles to drop off my repeat prescription at the doctors and complete the St John's circuit rather than just the quick route to and fro.

My neighbour is an artist, specialising in recycling stuff other people throw away and turning it into lovely works of art. She was telling me this morning that one school she is working at is planning a sculpture made of old shoes, but the headmaster wanted the activity to be a surprise so he didn't ask the kids to bring their old shoes in. He tells her this with three days to go! A cuppa and a good rummage later and she left our house with one pair of wellies, one pair of cowboy boots, two pairs of trainers, one pair of shoes, one pair of flipflops and one pair of slippers. It is amazing what you keep that is worn out, huh?

This is what I love about being her neighbour. You never know what your day is going to bring.
Yesterday, for instance, I opened my bedroom curtains to see a large pig laid on its side in her back garden! It does make you look twice I can tell you! There was a calf in there a few months ago. These are mosaic statues she made that come back for repair occasionally as they are part of an outdoor nature trail, so they get a bit weather-beaten over time.

If you would like to see some of her work, check this out:
There is a link to another page of her work at the bottom of this one:

Hope you are having a good day.

I'm Walking in the Rain (with apologies to Gene Kelly)

Monday, July 12, 2010

Well, that was fun. Exercising in the rain is an interesting experience. At least it kept me cool.
emoticon

I'm walking in the rain, just walking in the rain,
What a glorious feeling, I'm cooler again.
Just five minutes there,
and five minutes back,
I'm building up the discipline I usually lack

Just one day at a time,
and I'll sure toe the line
Come on with the rain, I can still walk just fine,
I'm laughing at clouds,
My kids are so proud,
I'm walking, just walking in the rain

(whistles and walks off)

Glad the rain didn't deter you. Only bad thing about walking/jogging in the rain is trying to keep the ole ipod dry. emoticon
