It's all true - I love flying Kulula, at least everybody gets off the plane with a grin! Sometimes they 'dress up' their uniforms for a flight, it's crazy.

52-Week Walking Plan Week 2, Day 5 etc.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Another miserable day weather-wise it would seem, though the rain kindly stayed off while I did my walk this morning. I am also the owner of a new umbrella. It was rolling around the pavement, open and abandoned, when I set out on my walk. As I was coming back it got blown into the road, so I detoured slightly and grabbed it. It is one of those telescopic types, that opens automatically when you push a button on the handle. It is currently sitting by the freezer drying out. It is a bit battered but once it is dry I'll see if it is fixable. I wonder if the owner will come and claim it. :-)

So the walk etc:

52-Week Walking Plan
Week 2, Day 5,
15 minute walk

Pedometer stats:
Pace: 21 min mile
Calories: 68
Steps: 1,697
Time: 0:16:21
Distance: 0.76 miles

Left hip was kicking up a fuss at first, but it settled down. I was also suffering from a bit of a sore tum and lower back for some reason, though that seems to have settled down too now. I very nearly swapped with tomorrow which is a rest day, but pushed through deciding I could always turn back if I really needed to.

28-Day Bootcamp Workout
Week 2, Day 5,
Video 2 - Lower Body

Rest of steps will be claimed with a walk to Waitrose for the shopping, IF my right hip, which has decided to join the fun, stops aching. *humph* I don't think it liked the Bootcamp today.

Hmmm.... well, the brolly is dry, and on closer inspection a couple of the pieces of metal are actually snapped right through, so it can't be fixed. Oh well, never mind. At least it is off the road and out of everyone's way. I suppose whoever owned it got frustrated and just dumped it. I do wish people wouldn't just drop things in the street.

Oh, yesterday at Tesco I picked up a DVD bargain. Had to buy this one cos it had the word 'Cloud' in the title. Well, I do love clouds, even grey blankets like we have today! :-) The film was great fun too. Anyone else seen Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs?

Have a great day everyone!

Lex xxx

Hope you feel better soon!! I never heard of this book or movie, but I bet its a heck of a lot better than the bomb I sat through LOL. So little time to see movies and I get a corker, if it weren't for no luck, I would have no at all LOL
I don't watch TV at all, gave it up a long time ago, so I am not up with current movies, news reviews, etc.
Hope you have a good rest and recovery today!

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that a brolly is an umbrella? :) I used to be the supervisor in the kid's section of a book store and I loved the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs! I just haven't gotten around to seeing the movie. Will have to check it out!

Boo to the hip acting up! Glad you got your walk in before the rain came.

That movie is playing on one of our movie channels here. I'll have to check it out!

Hope that hip settles down and you are able to go about the rest of your day without difficulty!

Amazing how people think that our sidewalks, roads, greenbelts etc. are their own personal disposal bins!! Thank you for making it a safe place for your neighbours to drive and for putting the garbage in the trash!!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

I haven't seen the movie, but I've read the book...great story!

Too bad about the umbrella, but kudos to you for making sure it isn't still blowing about.
Hope your aches have settled down and your day today is off to a great start.

BBC news article: The day I ate as many E numbers as possible

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-10773893

A highly entertaining, enlightening and informative article. Note the Doctor's concerns near the end of the article. They were similar to mine as my jaw dropped nearer and nearer to the floor the further he got into his day. It beats me how he managed to eat what he did and live to tell the tale. LOL

I am really looking forward to the start of his TV series - E Numbers: An Edible Adventure, (Thursday evening on BBC2 at 8pm, for those who can get the channel). :-)

I really like the main theme of the article. We really do get our focus all out of wack when we allow ourselves to be sidelined by the 'weird science' of may activists and bureaucracies, and loose sight of trying to eat a sensible and balenced diet.

Even though I'm somewhat grossed out by everything he ate, I'm glad the artile was written, and the more important message got out.

Oh my I feel nauseated just reading what he ate! I can't imagine eating that much of anything in one day. Interesting article, thanks for sharing. It just goes to show that with anything in life balance is key!

Don't get that channel here emoticon Mind you I am hopeful you will give us the highlights each week...lol

Have a great night!

I was reading the article as I waited for my rolled oats to absorb some of the water before turning them by way of the magic of my microwave into porridge for breakfast. Let's just say that after reading the article I have put off breakfast till mid morning. I have no idea how he managed to eat all he did for breakfast, let alone lunch and then dinner! Eeeuuuwww! emoticon As for his doctor's response to the amount he'd eaten, well, enough said.
It was really interesting to me to discover that a lot of the E numbers are actually natural products, well almost natural anyway, and not some lab-created chemical cocktails. I never realised there are recommended maximum daily intakes of these E numbers, let alone that they are so high. I have always tried to steer clear of the things as much as possible, although that is obviously not always possible.
That was a real lesson for me, so thank you. So often we assume we know the facts about something, but we only have a tiny piece of the total picture. I also loved the video of the 'red' wine tasting - it made me see why the colouring is added to a lot of foods - just so it will appear (and apparently taste) as it should.
Thanks for posting this, hope a lot of people check it out, cos we all need to know these things in order to have a properly balanced diet.
Hugs,
Chris.

52-Week Walking Plan Week 2, Day 4 etc.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Just a quickie this morning. We are in a rush to get out before the next big rainstorm hits. We have had some fun the last couple of days. Torrential rain, gales, flooding, even a tornado! Not us specifically, I hasten to add, though we've had our moments, but the next county up, which is only a few miles from us, they have really suffered. No one injured, thank goodness, but extensive damage to a vicarage and a forge, amongst other properties, and lots of trees down.

With the next front already drenching the Westcountry and heading towards us at a good rate of knots, we need to get up to Tesco for our monthly shopping trek for supplies asap. I don't mind getting wet on the way home, but it would not be much fun to traipse round the store while dripping wet! It is not my favourite shopping experience at the best of times. LOL

So, today so far:

52-Week Walking Plan
Week 2, Day 4,
10 minute walk

Pedometer stats:
Pace: 21 min mile (didn't push because of Tesco trip)
Calories: 45
Steps: 1,125
Time: 0:10:47
Distance: 0.51 miles

28-Day Bootcamp
Week 2, Day 4.
Video 4
Core exercises

I like this one, though I fudge the floor work using a chair and the wall.

Steps will be boosted from the Tesco walk, and strength exercise boosted by pulling Wilbur, my shopping bag on wheels, home laden with goodies, such as fruit juice, pasta, rice, and smellies for the bathroom. :-)

I don't like Tesco. Their ethics suck! But needs must when a low income drives... so I use Tesco to stock up on stuff I can't get at Waitrose, and a few things they make that we prefer to other brands, like their Light Choices Tikka Masala Sauce, which is my quick and healthy curry base. I add chopped chicken thighs for protein and iron, and a good variety of veggies - onion, peppers, courgette, mushrooms, green beans, sultanas, whatever I have to hand. I might throw some aubergine in this time. (Veggies from Waitrose local producers' section wherever possible) I cook it all up, eat one portion, and freeze the rest in individual pots for an easy grab on a busy day. Om nom nommy! :-)

Well, I'm off to get ready *casts anxious glance out of the window*
Catch up with you guys when I get back.
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Lex xxx

I like how you name your helpful objects. Wilbur. I have a pool cleaner named Junior. That's about it. But I may start naming a few more items. I will "pose" (copy) you. Hope the weather cooperated for your travels. Be safe. Hope to read all about the adventure next time.

Wow, you guys are sure getting your share of nasty weather! Keep safe and dry as much as possible. Glad to hear there were no injuries with all that has gone on.

Sounds like you have a busy and full day with all of your shopping! Congrats on getting your workout done already this morning.

Happy Shopping!
