Last minute snack

Monday, August 09, 2010

Ooops! I've been so distracted today that I didn't keep an eye on my water and fruit and veg intake and found myself short 1 glass of water and 1 helping of fruit or veg. So here I am right before bed munching on a portion of dried apricots and drinking a glass of water, a snack I would have had earlier, had I been paying attention.

I'm glad I don't share a bed with anyone. They would not like me in about half an hour. LOL

Hope you can sleep in spite of it. You ought to try Beano (taken with the first bite of anything you eat that gives you gas), it works wonders and has saved me from a lot of embarrassment at the club, as i eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies.
Sweet dreams!

Lean On Me with a twist

Monday, August 09, 2010

Hi everyone,

Someone posted this video on the Slowest Loser team, and I have borrowed it for my blog to thank you all for your continued support while I deal with the health issues recently thrust upon me.

So, thankyou all my friends! Your support, and that of my girls and my friends outside of Sparkworld is what is keeping me from freaking out with worry right now!

I am a glass half full kind of gal. I just feel like recently it's been the wrong half of the glass!

Walking Plan Warm-Up. Wk 4, Day 2, and the Doctor's appt.

Monday, August 09, 2010

It was a ten minute scheduled walk this morning.

Active Health stats:

Pace - 22 min mile
Calories - 46
Steps - 1138
Time - 0:11:05
Distance - 0.51 miles

I'm already up to nearly two miles because of the walk to the doctor's for an 8.30am appointment after the short walk, and I still have shopping to do. Going to exceed three miles quite easily today I think.

Weights and Tigger are still shelved though. Things didn't go as well as I'd hoped with the doc. Two doctors examined me, and both agreed that there was something not quite right. Deep in the tissue there is a lot of tenderness, and it made me squeak when they were exploring it thoroughly from a variety of angles. The upshot is I have an appointment at the Breast Clinic on Thursday for further tests, including an ultrasound, mammogram, and if necessary a needle biopsy.

This bunny is not happy! :-(

There are positives in all of this. My older daughter was already planning a visit late this week, so she is driving up a little earlier than planned, arriving late Wed evening, so she can look after Tara and be supportive while I go through this. So at least I don't have to worry about that. :-)

And I can still walk! I will walk to the clinic. The appointment is at 8.50 am, rush hour, so the traffic will be bumper to bumper and it will be quicker to walk into town. It is about a forty-five minute walk door-to-door, and at the moment Bryony is determined to walk in with me and Tara and do some retail therapy with Tara while I get what needs doing done. I think I'll suggest that we leave home about 7.45am, so that we can take the slightly longer but more scenic route through Castle Park. It will be much more pleasant than walking on the pavements beside all those fume-spewing cars!

I'll need to pack a breakfast too. I can't eat first thing at the best of times, and this is not the best of times, but once I've been through all that my appetite will return and I'll be feeling weak and giddy through lack of food.

Sorry, just thinking aloud here, sort of. :-)

Oh well, not the best start to the week. Let's hope things improve from here. :-)
Have a great day everyone!
Hugs,
Lex xxx

So sorry your appointment didn't go well, but it is best they thoroughly give you a going over as uncomfortable as it is, they have to make sure of everything. Tests are rotten, but better to be safe then sorry. The walk through the park sounds very nice. I hate walking in the city traffic too.
Good luck with everything,
You will be in my thoughts,
Hugs,
Linda

Lexie, I'm sorry the doc didn't give you the report you wished for today, and that you have to have more tests on your breast. I hope all that turns out well. You are and will be in my best thoughts, that is for sure.

I'm glad Bryony can be there for you and Tara. And hurray for still being able to emoticon!

Carla

Lexie-dear, now listen to your aunty Sarah - It's going to be just OK! Could be a milk duct infection, fibrositis - so many things, not necessarily trouble. So... cross that bridge when you get there and Thursday is entirely in God's hands.
emoticon

PS - be sure to tell the docs about the exercise you do, especially Tigger. The bouncing could have hurt your boobie. Special sports bra's are called for when exercising. OK?

A Week in Review: 1st-7th August 2010

Sunday, August 08, 2010

Not too bad, considering the week I've had. :-)

Nutrition:

Water:
8, 9, 8, 9, 8, 8, 9 = 59/56

Eight glasses down on last week but still over the minimum.

Fruit and Veg:
7, 5, 9, 6, 6, 6, 6, = 45/35

Four portions less than last week but pretty good still.

The Nutrition Basics were pretty good on the whole. The number of days I was within the target range were:

Calories - 3/7 (record 4/7) but less than ten calories over on two other days. We won't talk about the remaining two days. ;-)

Carbs - 6/7 (record 7/7) only missed 7/7 by 2 points!

Fat - 3/7 (record 5/7) It was a bad fat week! Doughnuts and fish and chips will do that! LOL

Protein - 4/7 (New record 4/7) AND I was within 3 points on two other days! Must have been all the fish I ate! LOL I am really pleased with this. I struggle to get the minimum protein each day, so this a great improvement!

I didn't have the best week of food choices. Being ill makes for easy fixes and a little comfort eating, hence the Doughnuts and the Fish and Chips. But I did ok in spite of that, keeping with range more than I expected actually. :-)

So, on to Fitness:

Mark Fenton's 52 Week Walking Plan (warm up week four)

Well that was a bust thanks to the infections. I ended up restarting Week Four this morning.

28 Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge:

I left the bootcamp challenge last Monday. I plan to start that again from scratch in a week or so, if I get the various all-clears from my Doctor. At least I learned a lot from what I've done so far. :-)

3300 steps per day was met 6 out of the 7 days, and comprehensively NOT met yesterday! 354 steps! Sheesh! LOL. So, this week's step target remains at 3300.

The steps were met through making small trips out to shops, doctors etc during the week. Even though some days were pretty slow walking, it was good to have some level of exercise going on, and I felt better for it.

The 14 miles per week was met this week, just!

14.65 miles/14 - A whole five miles down on last week, which is fine, considering. I hadn't given my weekly mileage a thought, but I'm delighted I reached it just the same.

Sticking at the 14 miles a week target again this week, pending test results.

I did 335 fitness minutes this week and burned 1397 calories. Again, down on last week, but ok.

Weight:

185.25 (13 stone 3 1/4 lbs) - down. 1.5 lb! Double Yay! That was totally unexpected. I really didn't think I'd lose weight this week. I'll probably pay for the doughnuts and fish supper next week. LOL

So, a surprise ending! Gotta love those! LOL
Have a great day everyone!
Hugs,
Lex xxx

    Lexi,

Sounds like a pretty good week for someone who has not been feeling well! Keep up the good work and I am sure when you are well again you will surprise even your self.

Also not sure how you are counting your steps but your steps per day and your mileage seem more than a little off...sounds like a lot more steps. I know when I use my pedometer and walk 5k that is about 4,700 steps which is 3.2 miles. I know stride etc. are different but those numbers seem off even considering that. Just a thought, you might be doing more than you think!!

CONGRATS on the 1.5lb loss!!

I'm Back! Walking Plan Warm-Up. Wk 4, Day 1

Sunday, August 08, 2010

I haven't blogged for two days, and yesterday I took a complete rest day. Spent the entire day Sparking and catching up on emails. It was wonderful, but the number of steps has to be seen to be believed! You don't want to know how little I moved yesterday. No you don't. You do? Really? Hmmm... OK then... (shuffles feet and scuffs the ground) I did 354 steps! Seriously! Even I couldn't believe it!

So, in sharp contrast, this morning I did:

15 minute walk

Active Health Stats:
Pace - 22 min mile
Calories - 71 (most burned so far)
Steps - 1779 (most steps so far)
Time - 0:17:14
Distance 0.80 miles (best distance so far)

That was lovely! Didn't race it. Just took my normal pace. Kept the pace up during the uphills, and sweated a bit on the return leg. (beaming smile)

Roll on tomorrow morning! Praying for a clean bill of health from the Doc so I can start up the rest of my routine again. I won't immediately restart the bootcamp even if I do get the all clear. I'll give myself a catch-up week first, build it up a bit.

Have a great day everyone!
Hugs,
Lex xxx

EDIT: I just took my aerobic step out of the cupboard and did some (slow) stepping to three songs, so about ten minutes. It. Felt. Good!

It sounds like you are really feeling better. Good to hear. Today is my last day for the bootcamp. I don't think I'll do it again, as I said before I have a real problem with the floor exercises.

I have been searching out alternative so that I can get my strength training. I might try the resistance band workout a couple of times this week. That gives a full body workout and I can do pretty well all of it without too much difficulty.

Have a great day. emoticon emoticon
