Playing with my new camera...

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Bought a new camera, for work, but also for a bit of a play from time to time. Thing is, I have never owned a digital camera, so I am on a fast track learning curve with it.

These were taken using the 'through glass' setting, so I could take pics from the kitchen window without disturbing the birds:

Couldn't get this pidge to face the camera.

Hmmm, the rest of the pics are too large to save to Sparkpeople...

Looks like my next job is learning about picture sizes! :-)

Enjoy your day!
Hugs,
Lex xxx

P.S: More in my next blog. Trip to Oxford pics and some news!

The thing about digitals is you just go snap snap snap and choose the best ones. You don't have to think about the cost of the film. I bought my digital camera because I worked out it would pay for itself after one fortnight's holiday. Never looked back.

PS you'll need rechargeable batteries though!

Away for a few days

Thursday, February 07, 2013

Off to Oxford tomorrow, if I can conquer my fear of travelling, and the weather doesn't mess things up!

Getting very nervous now. I know I'll enjoy myself once I get there. It's the getting there that freaks me out!

Doesn't help that Tara is getting upset about me leaving. And Bry is still in transit so a late night awaits while Bry finishes her drive up here to look after Tara for the weekend.

My bod isn't thrilled with my stress levels either. emoticon

But I will enjoy my weekend, if it all goes well, and the snow stays away!
Pretty please weather gods, don't let the snow come this way!

Hope you all have a great weekend!
Let's all have a good one!

Lex xxx

Think of the countless journeys you have made without incident. Focus on the positive and don't let the fear take hold. I'm sure you know that Fear is an acronym of false evidence appearing real. You are bigger and better than those emotions. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
We're all behind you

Anyone Tried 10-Minute Solution DVDs?

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

I ordered a couple because they were really cheap (less than 4) at Play.com. The first one arrived this morning, called Dance Off Fat Fast. It consists of five 10-minute dance workouts that are based on really varied influences - retro, ballet and modern disco to name three.

For someone doing a 10-min exercise streak, these are ideal.

I had already done 30 mins with Leslie, and three Just Dance songs this morning, but couldn't resist giving this DVD a go after a bit of a rest, so I did two sections.

It is really good fun! I did the first two sections, and was sweating nicely by the end. It is deceptively hard work, specially the ballet one, I'm guessing - that will be murder on my legs! If I can pluck up the courage to try it. LOL

The nicest thing about this DVD, is that you can just do one section, or play the whole lot, or mix and match them to suit your dance style, the amount of exercise time you have, or to target a specific area of your body.

Liking! :-) Hope the other one is as good when it arrives.

And talking of DVDs, I've been working my way through the Leslie Sansone WATP 7 Day Calorie Blast. One a day since it arrived. So I've done 4 of the 7 so far. Tomorrow and Thursday should be interesting as the next two workouts are targetted at the upper and lower body respectively. And I notice that she is lying on a mat in one of the pics. Hmmm... Hoping that is just for the stretching, cos you know how much I love being on the floor! LOL

In the meantime, her DVDs are harder work than the online stuff! Which is a good thing... Honest! :-) My hips and thighs are really feeling it, but in a good way - I hope! LOL

Yesterday I tested whether I could exercise and then do a long walk. Turns out I could! 30 min Leslie Sansone, and three Just dance songs, followed by a 12,000 step walk to Tara's college for a meeting, then town and finally Waitrose before going home.

Total step count 17572!

It was a good day. :-)

AND, I managed an hour of exercise today.
Hugs,
Lex xxx

I have the Ten Minute Solution Knockout Body! Kickboxing of course, using weighted gloves. I just love it! Has 50 minutes of 10 minute segments. One is abs, one focuses on upper body, lower body, toning, so whatever you feel like working (or whatever isn't sore at the time) you can pick and choose which ones to do. Its a great concept. I also have Quick Fix Cardio Kick, same idea three ten minute segments. Does your area have garage/yard sales? I have gotten great steals on barely used videos at them. Got some for a buck a peace and one was even given away! Can't wait for yard sale season to come round again!
Enjoy your new video!

I liked your blog. I have finally found somebody who does the Leslie Sansone DVD's. Is the DVD that you mentioned a new one? I have been looking for the something more challenging and different. The 10 minute DVD's also sound great, could you send some info on them. Sounds like you are really great with exercising, keep up the good work. emoticon

Can no longer pinch more than an inch! When did that happen?

Monday, January 28, 2013

OMG! I didn't even notice this massive non-Scale-Victory until this morning. When standing, I quite literally struggle to pinch anything at all. I still have an inch roll to pinch when seated (used to have two of them when seated), but my standing roll has gone!!!

How totally awesome is that?

All the core work involved in Leslie Sansone walks and stuff really are making a difference over time. I am so thrilled!

And talking of NSVs, here's a goody from a fellow sparker...

Jane Fonda's Still Got It

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

I was lucky enough to get a secondhand set of Jane Fonda's Step Aerobic video and Aerobic Steps back when Tara was a baby, so 15 years ago, more or less.

Took me a few weeks to build up to a full session on a decent step height, and I was in my mid 30s at the time.

Fast forward several house moves, and losing the whole kit 'n' caboodle during one of the moves, and one day a Sparkteam member on London and the South East mentioned her videos were on You Tube.

Sadly, not the step aerobic one I had, but a couple of walking aerobic ones are there, among others, so I thought I'd see how she makes out against my walking fave - Leslie Sansone

This is Jane Fonda's Walking Cardio Workout: Level 1 Video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UabUNrjSE4

And this is her Walking Cardio Workout: Level 2:

www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=v4YyCdT
f9BM

I don't know how long ago these videos were made (she is now 75), but she lets slip during one of the two videos that she has had her left knee replaced, AND her right hip!

Well, I was able to keep up comfortably with her during the level 1 video, but betcha by golly wow! Level 2 had me huffing and puffing and struggling to keep up by the end! It was a terrific workout!

My only slight criticism is that she doesn't tend to keep to the beat of the music, which I find a tad distracting at times.

Other than that, she has you working good and hard, and they are well worth trying out. 18-20 minutes of aerobics and 6-8 mins of stretches after. A complete workout in each video.

I am finding more and more these days that You Tube is an absolute goldmine of Exercise videos. If someone has come up with an exercise routine, chances are there is something available on You Tube these days.

Why don't you have a poke around and see what there is. You may be pleasantly surprised! :-)
Hugs,
Lex xxx

Thanks for this info. I don't have time to ck out u-tube yet, but I will. I know her old workouts were exhausting, but good. I ordered her latest about a year ago. I really Enjoyed it. Maybe that's the one on u-tube....don't know. I find if a person is not With the Music, I just start looking off, and not at them. Occassionally looking at the Screen. That way if I am outta step or ahead of her because of the beat, I am ok with it. LOL
I need to get back into my Wii games, they kick my butt :)

Yes I would imagine she still has it. She was a pioneer for the fitness movement.

Not keeping time to the music would drive me NUTS though.

Thanks for the links, I'll take a look.

Good luck on your fitness journey!

I know there are people who don't like Jane Fonda because of her political views. But, at 75, she does look great. Even if she did have some work done, she still had to do a lot of work to maintain her figure.

She's proof that women can be fit as they grow older. That age isn't a barrier to long term good health.
