Life is Good :0)

Wednesday, April 06, 2011

Ok, so for those of you who know my pattern, this is my "better put up a positive blog" blog lol. I get embarrassed if I'm not the most positive person and I always feel the need to put up a light hearted blog so people will stop commenting on the last one. Silly, I know. emoticon

I just bought tickets to the local hockey team's playoff game tonight. The kids are going to be SO EXCITED! We haven't been to one before and I know their little eyes are going to be huge when they walk in that arena! emoticon emoticon

I also took the kids to a local soccer event last night for an open house. They are both signed up for soccer leagues now! Promise fulfilled! emoticon

Next promise...a nature walk on Saturday! My daughter is super excited about this one. She's even made a list of things we need to remember to bring, like bug spray, sunglasses, water, snacks, camera, and trash bags to pick up litter on the way! Isn't that the cutest thing?! She has such a sweet heart! emoticon emoticon

I think there's also an Easter egg hunt scheduled for this weekend. That's always a great time as well. So see...I've got lots of things to look forward to and nothing I should be griping about! Life is good! emoticon emoticon

Some of my very best memories, both as a child with my great-aunt & later as a mum with my son, are of going on nature walks. Your daughter is very practical - lol - I loved the list. Kuddos to her for thinking of cleaning up while you're out there. I'm glad that she's so aware, even at her young age.

Made me smile to hear your plans! As a hockey mom - of course I love hockey games. emoticon

The nature walk sounds fun! What a smart girl your daughter is to make a list - and it's a good one, too! We took our son out for our first hike on a local mountain trail in January and it was a wonderful morning! We need to do that again. Where we live in southern California we are surrounded by trails we just need to get off our butts and go. That and pull the bikes out of storage. (Ok - I am making that one a priority this weekend!)

I loved Easter egg hunts when my son was little. He was always so overwhelmed by the other kids that he would just watch and ended up with only a few in his basket. LOL - That's okay - we made up for it Easter morning. Now he is almost 12 and rolls his eyes at me when I talk about the Easter bunny. emoticon

I enjoy all of your blogs so just blog whatever you feel! And you are right, Life is good!

We took our 3 children to their first hockey game this last Saturday night. They all loved it! I feel like they were living charmed lives that night. The oldest wanted to see a fight; he saw 2 fights. The middle one caught a tee shirt. The youngest was handed a huge blow horn by the guy in front of us. My oldest liked it so much he's going to the game tonight with some of his friends.

Have a great time on that nature walk. It sounds fantastic!

Set Me Free!!!

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Just a quick blog today! (I think every time I say that it ends up being a novel.) I'll try to keep it short though. I've got a whole lot to say, but I just don't know how to say it. My moods are definitely jumping all around the board. Sunday I was so happy that I didn't want to go to bed and end such a good day. Then Monday was okay, nothing whoopy. Then today I'm totally blah! It took every thing in me to not walk into the boss's office this morning and quit. Not because anything in particular is going on, just because there's so much LIVING I want to do! Work is just not conducive to that! LOL I need to get these college applications turned in and I need to call about this and that...and I need to read my new book! I need to be spending more time with the kids and I need to clean my house! I need to be doing a lot of other things than sit in front of this stupid computer all day long! I need to DO ME! I need this for my mental health!! How are you supposed to live like you're dying when you're stuck in a crappy 9-5 job?! LOL emoticon

Phew, ok...I feel better now! Thanks for listening to my rant! Don't worry, I'm finished! emoticon

Here's the book I'm reading right now. I'm almost half way done and I'm anxious to get to the end! Supposedly when I turn the last page, I will never smoke again...and it will be a emoticon

A SP friend recommended it to me and I love it so far! I think it's really going to work! I will finally be FREE! emoticon

One more thing...I want everyone to check out this blog! I sure got my inspiration of the day from it! Enjoy! www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

That is a great book. It helped me a lot. I became a non-smoker in January. The key is to keep in your mind that you don't need a cigarette and you really really don't want one. Another thing that helped me was an App on my Phone called QuitNow. I think they also have a phone App for the Easyway, but it wasn't for my type of phone. emoticon GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi Leslie. Wouldn't it be nice if we were all so well off financially we didn't have to work and could indulge our passions? But until we win a lottery not much choice for most people. I heard an interview yesterday with the author of a new book that guides people from boring jobs to their passions. Check it out at www.daveramsey.com. Believe it is called "Quitters." Might also want to see a site www.changingcourse.com to get ideas on how others have followed their dreams and sign up for the site's free newsletter. Hope these help. Sorry I don't have a winning ticket I could share with you. emoticon -- Lou

Leslie-You are such an inspiration to all of us, I know that you can achieve this new goal if you set your mind to it! I know what you mean about your job. I am extremely fortunate and have a job that I really do love, but I have had similar days in the last few months where I look at others doing different jobs and feeling jealous...like the guy grilling burgers at McDonald's! I think, wow, what would it be like to not take my job home with me every day? Hang in there, friend, you can do this.

Try setting some small goals for yourself in the areas that you feel you are lacking. Take the kids for a walk, dust in one room only, something small that sets the ball rolling!

Hope your day improves!

Before Pic for 100 push up challenge

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Hi all! I just have a few pictures I wanted to share, mostly out of boredom. I'll be catching up on my SP duties tomorrow...promise! emoticon

This is my little monkey ringing the bell at the top of a rock wall Sunday afternoon. She was very proud and was able to go higher than the older kids in front of her! I swear, I gotta get this kid in gymnastics! (in the process of fulfilling that promise, actually!)

This pic is from a couple weeks ago when we had a light fluffy snow, perfect for building a snow man! They were having a good time, that's for sure!

And finally...this is my before picture for my push up challenge. You may not believe me,(or want to believe me lol,) but I've not done much strength training. I've always had big biceps, enough so that I was teased when I was a kid. Not in a bad way, I was just known as the girl who you shouldn't mess with because I had the muscles! I was challenged to many of arm wrestling matches and would show up the guys every time! lol Ahhh...the good ol' days!

I'd like to tone them up some more and see what they'd look like if I tried! I'm anxious to see the end result but just don't want to get them too big...don't want to make the boyfriend jealous! LOL ;) Watch out for these guns y'all!! tehehe

Lovely blog, because you brought back some fond memories. I took the GK's to the indoor wall climbing place over spring break and they had a blast. I used to be a monkey, so when I reach my goal weight, a bucket list activity is for me and my former sister in law to see if we can learn to climb walls.

Secondly the reason I was such a good monkey is that I played the accordion and rode horses so had strong arms and legs. Up until Jr High, I could out arm wrestle every single boy with my left arm. This really annoyed them because I was one of the smallest kids in my class. Great Fun. Thanks.

Ramblings

Monday, March 28, 2011

Hey friends! emoticon

I don't have much to say...just realized I hadn't blogged in a while and thought I'd update everyone. emoticon

My kidney stones are giving me a lot of pain but seem to be passing slowly but surely. It's coming out in granules so it's a process here...I have to strain my urine to see how much I pass. They said it's just a small stone this time, (had my first bout with these a year ago.) Last time I had to have lithotripsy, which is where they break up the stone using sound waves and a fancy machine. It hurt just about as bad as child birth, so I for sure hope I don't have to go through that again! They've given me some pain meds and most of the time it's manageable and doesn't hurt too bad. Cross your fingers I can pass all of it and don't have to have more litho or even surgery. My bro-in-law just had to have surgery for his. He was in some severe pain and thankfully I haven't had to experience that yet!

I've also had the joy of dealing w/ head lice. My daughter brought them home from school a couple weeks ago and they are hard little boogers to get rid of! They just came back for the 3rd time on her!!! Aaahhh!! I've washed everything and treated everything, 3 times over! I don't know what I'm missing! Some how she's recatching them or we are not getting rid of all the eggs or something! It's so nasty though and I've had the heebie jeebies all day! lol I told the school nurse to check all of her classmates and her daycare so hopefully we'll track down the source and get rid of them for good this time!

I've also been busy getting my applications completed and my transcripts transferred so that I can attend grad school in the fall. Hopefully I can find some scholarships or grants. Surely there's something available out there for single moms like me.

My nutrition last week was horrible but I'm back on track now...my body is screaming at me to eat healthier and I'm finally listening. I also started the 100 push up challenge last night by doing my assessment test. The test is basically just seeing how many push ups you can do at a time. I got 20! Which is perrty good if I do say so myself! I use to do the modified ones and finally worked my way up to real ones. I remember when I could only do 5 at a time so I think I've come a long ways. I'm anxious to see what these guns look like at the end of the challenge! I plan on taking progress pics too. emoticon If any one wants to check out the challenge go to hundredpushups.com!

I also ordered a punching bag last week and got it this weekend! I'm uber excited about that! I got it as an anger management tool but I'm also excited to work out with it. It's going to be a healthy way to vent my frustrations and will be a fun work out too! emoticon

Well, I hope I haven't bored you too much. Have a fantastic week and keep working towards your goals! emoticon

Good to hear "the lice situation" was finally contained.
I really hope you get better soon :)
Hugs from here!

Oh my goodness, your blog took me back to my single parent days. It's tough when you're sick and still you have to take on a huge task like eradicating lice. I hope your kidney stones pass without incident. emoticon emoticon

Oh, my GOSH, Leslie! And I thought I had problems! You're passing kidney stones! OUCH! I hope you don't have to deal with this very long! It just sounds so painful!

I feel so out of touch lately! I am going to work in a few minutes, but hopefully I can do more catching up tomorrow!

Sorry about your DD, she might be borrowing a friends comb or brush at school? It is real hard to get rid of and those little eggs will live on unless they get removed. It takes several treatments before you can be totally rid of them. Apparently an epidemic because they jump about.

Punching bag will be great for the kids too!

Kidney stones and head lice together? You poor thing!!!!! I haven't had kidney stones, but I have dealt with the head lice before. We tracked it down to the little girl next door, who got it from the little girl next door to her, whose mom was a hoarder (I didn't know what to call her at the time) and actually had head lice herself. I ended up treating the daughter and mom both personally until the lice went away. What a mess that was. With persistence though, we eventually got rid of them. Her poor daughter couldn't even go to school for a time because of the lice. Ughhh!!!

Way to go on the push-ups!!! I think you can do about 20 more than I can. And grad school, how exciting!! Go you!!!

Oh the joys of head lice, I went thru that a couple of times when Holly was little. Keep at it, they do eventually go away. I hope the nurse finds the source!
Way to go on those pushups!

Hope you're feeling even better now. Congrats on the pushups...impressive!
I know what you're going through with the head lice. Seems my kids are always getting them. I get rid of them for a while and they come back with a vengeance. I think the lice are getting immune to the lice meds; seriously. I think they just laugh at it. I've used Dawn dish soap before and it worked just as well as the store bought stuff; and it's safe to use on wildlife, so why not my little wildlife at home! lol

Positivity Blog!!

Friday, March 18, 2011

I remembered that I haven't done a positivity blog for my team's challenge for a while...it's time to get steppin'!! emoticon

I have so many positives, this list is gonna be great! emoticon

~A wonderful emoticon of mine made me feel very special yesterday!! See, my blog subscriptions had fallen off of her list and she didn't notice, so I kindly gave her a head's up. Afterall, that's what I would want someone to do to me! She appreciated it very much and thanked me 10x's over! I'd like to follow her lead and let you know I'd appreciate it if you'd do the same to me! If you don't open the email notification and then click on the link, the subscription then falls off and you don't receive anymore until you resubscribe. My email fills up so fast with junk mail along with team digests, subscriptions, recipes, exercises, it's easy to miss one! Please, if you don't see me on your blog for a of couple days, come give me a head's up or emoticon in the butt! I will be grateful you did!!

~My size 8 pants are officially falling off of me! lol SWEET! emoticon

~It's warm outside and the snow has melted! THAT'S a positive, for sure!! emoticon

~The chocolate has run out of the candy bowl here at work!! YESS!! *fist pumps* emoticon

~I scheduled some appointments with a therapist! I'm going to focus on forgiveness...forgiving Chris for not taking care of his body and forgiving myself for not living this healthy lifestyle then and taking better care of him! emoticon

~I scheduled my angel reading appointment!! I think the guilt and anger have kept me from going to this...but with a little work with my therapist first, I'll be more than ready to talk to my guardian angels and arch angels when my appointment date comes! emoticon emoticon

~I attended a meeting about getting my master's degree in social work! Time to stop looking for fulfillment and start finding it! I can't wait to help more people in real life and not just on Spark! emoticon emoticon

Well, I think that's a pretty good list, wouldn't ya say?! emoticon

Had to have a little laugh when I read through your blog! I could almost see you with your fists pumped in the air about the chocolate and see your elation at having your pants falling off....now, that could be taken out of context....couldn't it?

I think counselling is great and will help you discover even more about yourself to love. AND, I think you would do fantastic in the MSW program!!!!!

I think it's a fantastic list. I love your enthusiasm - especially for the dimished chocolate bowl! Going to counselling sounds like a good idea. You've recently come to another level in your grieving process and this will be an especially useful time to have a sounding board. Going for your master's - how exciting!

I'd say that's a great list! Funny about the chocolate at work - I made sure the bowl is full of stuff i don't like that way I don't eat it. Way to go on the pants... kind of exciting!

AND most importantly, GOOD JOB taking care of you emotionally and spiritually. Gotta pay attention to the whole person, not just the body.

Fantastic list. You will be a GREAT social worker. If I could do it over again I would get my master's in social work instead of counseling because there are WAY more jobs available.

I hope you have a great weekend!
