A beautiful walk

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

We went for a lovely walk down a street that runs along a creek. It's tree-shaded and slightly windy. My walking buddy and I couldn't get up a good brisk pace because I brought Cooper along, but she didn't seem to mind. She is still tired from having shingles, and was glad we only did about a mile and a half together. Of course I walked to and from her house as well. Cooper probably would have been fine going another mile or two, but I didn't want to tire myself out tonight. It was beautiful down by the creek. There is something so soothing about the sound of water running along a creek bed. There was also a lovely breeze, and going as late as we do the temperature is just about perfect. All in all a beautiful night and location for a walk.

A beautiful blog. Thank you for sharing your walking experience Leslie. One of my favorite things is water. It's very calming. My background pic is from a stream along a hike with my teens when we went geocaching. When I look at the picture I can still hear the water flowing. Glad you enjoyed a walk with your canine buddy and it's nice when you walk when the temperature is cooler. Enjoy your day! Hugs, Keke

A notch on my belt

Tuesday, August 09, 2011

There is only one notch left on my belt and I will have to go buy a new one. How exciting is that?!!

Cooper and I have already gone on three or four walks today. I am wavering between calling it three or four because two were really short due to the rain we had today. The one we just got back from was a mile and a half, which is closer to what we were doing before he got sick. He did start coughing about halfway home, but we paused for a moment to let him catch his breath, then continued on our way. The congestion is still making him snore when he naps, but I am hopeful he will be pretty much back to normal by next Monday when we go to our first (rescheduled) training class. He is starting to walk on the leash better already, but I figure a session with a trainer won't hurt. Tomorrow I think we might try 2 miles in the evening.

Cooper should get better soon

Monday, August 08, 2011

Cooper has a sinus infection. It is all the mucous making him cough. I got some antibiotics from the vet, and she said he should be less snotty within 48 hours. I am sad he isn't feeling well, but relieved it isn't something worse. We did short walks again today, but I think we might start lengthening our walks again tomorrow or Wednesday.

Now, I have to get ready for my niece's 11th birthday party. Well, the family dinner portion of it anyway. She will probably have a party next weekend for her tweenie friends. Family just isn't cool when you want to hang with your friends! I hope everyone has a great week...

So glad it isn't anything serious too! Poor Cooper though, at least you can stop the worrying now.

Enjoy your niece's birthday.

My dog is not feeling well

Sunday, August 07, 2011

Cooper is sick. I think it might be kennel cough. Of course it is Sunday, so I have to wait until 8am tomorrow to call the vet. He is congested with a hacking cough. I would feel guilty about making him sick, but he probably got it from the shelter... if it is kennel cough. His energy level is pretty low. We only walked for about 15 minutes early this morning and he has been sleeping ever since. We usually walk for at least 30-40 minutes at a time, but I don't want to stress him out, so we are going to stick to short walks today. His little sniffs, snorts and snores make me feel bad for him, but what can I do but wait until the morning?

Since I won't be taking a longer walk with Cooper I scheduled a walk with my walking buddy for this evening. It will be our first walk together in a couple of weeks. She had shingles and had to take it easy, but she really wants get out walking again now. It will be nice to get out and walk with her again. We are going to stick to one of our shorter routes since she hasn't walked much in the last two weeks. Also, I don't want to be away from Cooper for too long.

Aww poor Cooper - hope he feels better soon, let us know what the vet says.

Congrats on the weight loss - that's a great result! & I agree with the other comments about your cal intake, do what feels right.

Good luck with the vets & Coop!

Sorry Cooper isn't feeling well. You might try mixing a little raw honey with water and see if he'll drink it. If not, you could always feed it to him with a medicine dropper if you are sure he won't bite you. The honey may coat the lining of his throat and help with the irritation and it won't affect anything the vet may give him later. If it seems to help, give him some more as he needs it. Also, if it is kennel cough, it's pretty contagious, so you shouldn't let your dog interact with other animals and birds if you can help it.

The good news is when it's caught fairly early, it shouldn't be a huge deal, but untreated it can develop into other more serious things. I'm sure your vet will take good care of him and soon Cooper will be his own self again! Good luck and God Bless,

Larry

A whining moment

Saturday, August 06, 2011

All this walking is making my feet hurt, and my ankles are sore... okay, that was my whining moment. I went back to my friend's house today to do some more painting in her kitchen. I pretty much got one window done. There is some fine detail work she wanted done, and that took awhile. I am pretty tired, as my whining attests to, but it sort of feels good. I am burning too many calories compared to what I am taking in according to my fitness tracker, so I upped my calories and I am still getting that warning! I don't think there is time enough in the day for me to eat much more than I do now. So, I guess I will just eat what feels right and is close to my target calorie range, and hope for the best.

I keep getting that calorie warning too. As long as I lose up to 2 lbs. a week and I feel o.k. I ignore it.

same happens to me, daily, and I have not lost any weight since last November, in fact, I have gained 5 pounds, so go figure, I would be back to my old weight in no time at all if I listened to them.
