As I am a sucker... (ridiculously hawt man inside...)

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

I figured I'd introduce Teal'c's brother, who is also coming home to me along with their mum.

Meet Daniel!

For those familiar with SG1 and the character he's named after, he's saying "I don't think that's a good idea, Jack" in this pic. LOL.

and his namesake.
Ladies, brace yourselves.

No, really.

I mean it.

Okay, you were warned!

There is a reason I like Daniel best.
I mean, I would no matter what he looked like, I like the character, but MAN.
Easy on the eyes = understatement of the century.

How are you even talking? Do you not SEE Daniel up there?! You should have fainted dead away. I mean, honestly... I need a fainting chaise just to watch the show.

*is a teeny tiny bit obsessed*

I'm thisclose to going to Chicago end of August for an SG1 convention at the airport JUST to touch him. And then faint. And never wash whatever I touch him with/he touches again. Hehehehe. *waggles eyebrows*

*waits for restraining order from Michael Shanks*

Adventures in Injury

Monday, July 06, 2009

So, had my appt. with the sport doc today for my foot. Looks like it's a mild stress fracture right where I thought. She said that I'm on the lower end of severity, not near a fracture (yet) so I need to avoid all impact-y exercises until I'm pain free a) walking, b) doing stairs and c) hopping. I also have to do physical therapy as I'm apparently a bit weak in my core to my pelvis. Hips/glutes/hamstrings need work. Sigh. I thought I was in pretty good shape but I apparently have a natural weakness there that I need to address or I'll end up having the same issue again.

I also do need to get bigger shoes for overpronators.
She did ask if I was vegetarian. Not sure why she thought to ask, I wasn't wearing any messagewear or anything. Maybe I just have that sort of look. I dunno. When I said I was vegan for 6 years, actually, she did ask about my calcium intake and iron. Once I said I was supplementing calcium and tracking iron and B12 on spark, she let it drop. Whew. I was worried I get a very anti-vegan doc and feel attacked. I'm definitely making sure I get enough calcium and my iron hits the mark 5 out of 7 days. Since your body hangs onto iron pretty well, and ODing is worse than under-doing it, I think I'm okay there.

Have first PT session on next Thursday. Little worried, not sure what to expect.

Until then I'm in a boot thingie to keep some pressure off my foot and allow me to walk flat. I was overcompensating for the injury and walking on my big toe/heel on the inside. My heel is a bit sore now due to that and this boot monstrosity should help. I feel stupid, though. Just call me Frankenstein.

In better news, we biked a really great amount this weekend and I was foot pain free (hips/knee/leg muscles did hurt! but no delayed or lasting achies) the whole time. We did about 34-35 miles total Sat and Sunday, which was awesome. The greenway is really a great place to bike and I'm so proud that I could ride to Minneapolis under my own power instead of driving. Yay!

This week is supposed to be rainy (boo) so I may have trouble hitting my calorie burn amounts if I can't bike. I have been doing kbells stuff, just modified. I basically do the moves I know I can handle from the DVD while watching an ep of SG1. Makes 42 min of work go by quickly!

So, that's that for now.
Hopefully I'll be pain free soon and the PT will help me strengthen up so I can run injury free.

Good for you for hanging in there and planning for safe exercises! :)

I guess the up-side of facing awkward vegan questions is that you have the opportunity to prove their assumptions wrong. :P

Baby Teal'c... or How I am Now Dead from Cute.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Oh. My. Goodness.

Baby Teal'c has eyes now and is ... KILLING me with how cute he is.

I mean honestly now...

This HAS to be illegal.

*is ded from cute*
I'm DYING to meet my new little baby boy!

(edit: Here's his namesake from Stargate SG-1, see the resemblance? LOL.)

    Heh, yup.
I love Stargate and wanted to name my next additions after characters from the show. This little guy was perfect for Teal'c because of the headspot!

Very cute! I was never allowed to have anything even vaguely resembling a rodent as a kid -- not even a gerbil or a hamster; my mom just hates rodents. I kind of like them, altho I've still never had one -- my cats would almost definitely eat them.

Size 6 pants? Really?

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Today (* looks at time * erm, yesterday...) I went into Old Navy while Norman was at the vet making urine (lol, he needed a urinalysis and came up empty) and decided to look at pants and such.

I really like a pair of pants I have from Old Navy that I got, oh, 5-6 months ago in a size 12. Needless to say, I'm SWIMMING in them now. I'm talking zip them up and can pull them off my hips/butt with a light tug. Heck, I walk and they fall down (side note: yay!). So, I decided to try on an 8 in that same wash/cut since I liked them so much. 8 was too big (side note: yeah!) so I hesitantly grabbed a 6. I held them up, muttering "these are tiny, this is a stupid idea" then shrugged and was off to the changing room.

They FIT. Not tightly, either. They fit well. (side note: holy carp, YAY!!!)
Now, granted, they are stretch but that's still a jump from a 12 to a 6 in about 3.5 months! * wiggle dances a lot * I also bought another pair of running pants in a size (wait for it) extra small. EXTRA. SMALL. What does that even mean? How can you be extra small? It makes no logical sense to me. Still. Squeee!

I'm absolutely positive I'm not a 6 (yet) and am sure I'm solidly a size 8 now. I tried on a pair of all cotton dressy type pants in an 8, too, and they fit well. So, for sure an 8 in most things (some of those cuts are made for prepubescent girls!) and a magical, miraculous 6 in this one pair of pants. Which I will cherish. LOL.

I was also able to zip up the Very Small size 8s my mom left for me as goal pants. They are too tight but give me time.

In related news, I bought a flipping bikini today.
And it wasn't demoralizing trying on suits(!)
AND I think I actually don't look too bad in the suit I got(!!)
AND when a suit didn't look great on me I blamed the SUIT and not my BODY(!!!) This is huge. It wasn't "my body is the problem, if I were more thin/perfect this would look good"... nope, instead my internal voice was like "this is a horrible cut for a suit! What is wrong with these designers? Next!"

That's huge for me.

In other rocking news, Aaron and I ran our first four miles (in 1:5 walk/run intervals) today. Took us about 47 minutes which is not bad considering it was a walk/run. Leg held out well, got a nasty side stitch that slowed us down. Feel wonderful. Today RULED.

Time for bed. Need cuddles.

    Nice! :D

I have everything in my closet from 10 down to 6 -- it all depends on the brand! Sounds like Old Navy is good to you! :D

In the end, though, the number on the label in meaningless, as there really is no standard. Plus, no one else sees it but you! :D What matters is a good fit, which makes you look GREAT! :D

Hey, I remember trying on some jeans at Old Navy & my normal size was way too tight -- so you may be even smaller than you think!

emoticon I remember when I accidentally brought a size 6 home (I thought it was a 10 - it had a 10 sticker on it) and realized that I was a 6! (Yes, they are stretchy too!) But I still count it! emoticon

Skinny Pants = Fat Pants, NSV

Friday, June 19, 2009

So, the pants I couldn't fit into without feeling pinched only a month ago are now falling off me. I JUST washed and dried my cotton pants and they were loose from minute one. I have to hitch them up on my hips pretty constantly when I move. Um. YAY! And also boo. I love these pants!

These are the same ones that used to be snug on my hips/thighs and are now darn near baggy in both areas. Ditto all my capris. Ditto the mixed feelings. They are all so CUTE. I just got back into them and now I'm too skinny less than a month later. I don't have the money for this! LOL.

I've got that one new pair of 8s that are snug fitting (but not too snug) and then all these too baggy 10s. Let's not even mention the two pairs of 12s. I'm SWIMMING in them. I think I'll be hitting a store next paycheck and picking up a few more pairs of 8s. I don't want to get too many, though, 'cause I'm hoping to be a 6 when I finish up losing and go into maintenance. ;)

Also, I'd like you to meet my rewards for getting this far/hitting goal in a few months.

Meet Prairie and Teal'c (yes, I'm a Stargate SG-1 freak, when I next need more rats I'm going to be adding Daniel * heart! *, Jonas and Sam to my crew... I'll already have Teal'c and Jack). I'm considering calling Prairie 'Tauree', too. Can't think of a good SG-1 character name for her but the word used for humans is so pretty, IMO.

(she was full of babies here!)

Baby Teal'c:

The little fella is just 15 days old now. One of his siblings has opened an eye so he'll probably "get eyes" this weekend, too. I'm waiting until he's old enough for the rescue to neuter him (and spay momma) then they'll be flown in from Michigan. :) Eeeeee...

I know how frustrating all that shopping can be, but hey, it's a good thing, right? You'll find even cuter things in the size that fits -- I guarantee it!
