Those are all good readings. Mine used to be way above 200 in the beginning. I don't check mine everyday. Even though I should because sometimes I just get dizzy and i want to faint and I know its because my sugar has dropped other times I feel sick and sweaty and I know the sugar has spiked.

I can see they have improved a lot over the month. That was great that you wrote them all down in one place, so you could easily see your improvement. Keep it up and keep exercising. emoticon

Newly diagnosed with diabetes

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Got the phone call from my doctor on Monday the 22nd that I had full blown diabetes along with high cholesterol, I thought my life was over and I spent the whole day crying, even my mother started crying.
Being I came close three years ago to dying and the doctor saying to her to pull the plug, but being my mother is a very strong Baptist would not do it.
She told them to do their job and GOD would do the rest.
And here I am three years later and being diagnosed with diabetes.
I knew it was coming but no so soon.
I had pre-diabetes for the last three years.
I'm scared to death about having this disease and will do everything in my power to control it.
I'm taking metformin 500mg twice a day.
My doctor has me monitoring my FBS every morning.
Got my meter Thursday so here are my reading so far:

279 @ 10:59 Friday September 19th, {the day I took my blood test}
204 @ 10:35 Thursday September 25th
165 @ 10:56 Friday September 26th
173 @ 10:04 Saturday September 27th
154 @ 10:45 Sunday September 28th
154 @ 10:23 Monday September 29
138 @10:46 Tuesday September 30th

Hi! I have been a diabetic for more than 10 years now. I also wanted to cry all the time. But it really isn't as bad as it seems. There are a lot of good sugar free products out there. It just a matter of getting used to the taste. I have given up soda completely in the last few months but before I liked the Diet Pepsi because it was sweeter than diet Coke. I was drinking a six-pack or more of RC when I found out I was diabetic. And the Crystal Light is excellent. That's what I drink now. Someone commented that you need to find what spikes your sugar. They are right. Start a food journal. Milk will spike mine faster than anything. I also take metformin but mine is 1000 mg twice a day. And I take Byetta which has worked wonders to help me lose weight. It makes you feel full. Talk to your Dr about it. Good luck and I know you can do it! I would love to be buddies. I just have to figure out how to use this site. lol

I cried too when the doctor told me I had diabetes. I was diagnosed last year and so far I have managed to control better than it was. I want to lose more weight so that it will improve more.

hi friend, u can do this really! it takes checking yr sugars and finding out what makes you spike yr sugars, the carbs are for sure, the potaties etc,and high starchy vegies in 1 of the post ive listed high starchy vegies, my boyfriend has diabetes and belive me, he started exercising, just a few minutes everyday and stopped snacking on all the bad things and portioned his plates correctly and he still isnt on the needle still on metaformin and glypizide,

if I wasn't following low carb I don't think I would be able to control it.
There are so many foods I can never have again.
It can get depressing at times if I let it.
I love hamburgers and all types of pasta.
Some days I just want to cry.
I just take every day as it comes.
I live in Bardstown but I'm in Louisville all the time because my sister and niece live there.
Moving can be very stressful, you hang in there.
Would love to be buddies, and thanks for the add.

Theresa

I also have type 2. There are days I still can't believe it and want to deny it and those are the days I have trouble controlling it. I am on the same medication and strength as you and find it is working well. I am going to add you as a freind if that is ok. I was looking for some friends and support in the Louisville area. We are in the process of moving there. My husband got a new job. This move is very stressful to me and my fbs and weight show it.

    Hi Theresa,
I just saw you on the Pre/Type II Diabetes team, so I stopped by to read more about you. One thing is good - your fasting blood sugars just keep getting better and better. So you must be doing something right!

Try not to be too freaked out by the diagnosis. It can be a wakeup call to make important changes in your life. But from what I know, all the bad effects are really long term, so if you can get this thing under control, you should be fine. In my case, I even got it back into "pre" range again. And my cholesterol is much improved too. And I have only lost 20 pounds. So every bit of progress is going to make you healthier!

Take good care of yourself! Judi
