I love today.
For my birthday this year my husband got me a BRAND NEW DIGITAL SEWING MACHINE!!! Oh my god it is so sexy. It's smooth and quiet and it even threads my needle FOR me!! AND it's got a drop in bobbin so I don't have to futz with it anymore!! I LOVE IT!! AND he got me a bunch of organizational stuff for the sewing room, because it was kind of becoming a catch all. So he got me this thing that holds all of my spools of thread, another that holds all of my bobbins, and they're all readily accessible so I don't have to dig around for them!! AND he got me an automatic bobbin winder so that I don't have to undo everything from my sewing machine in order to thread another bobbin! IT'S SO AWESOME AND THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVARRRRRRRR!!!!
And the coolest part? I know of a certain jewel-toned friend (wink wink) who would love a sewing machine, and now she might be getting one for the holidays!
Other cool things:
My friend Gomez here at school is pretty overweight, and she had a breakdown a few days ago about it. She says she wants to do something about it, she had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago but they were only able to do half of it, so she lost about 75 lbs, but then stopped losing. She always takes the elevator, so Tuesday I told her class that I was depending on them not to let her do that anymore, that if she wants to get into better shape she has to start taking the stairs. So yesterday, she was about to get into the elevator, and one of her students (3rd graders) said, "Oh no, don't even think about it Ms. Gomez, you need your exercise! You're taking the stairs just like all of us!" So of course, Gomez knew that I was behind it. I need to commend that student on standing up to her and making her do that!! I told her that she has to lose weight so I can have kids, cause she won't be able to babysit if she's getting winded all the time!
Mom and SK come today and I couldn't be more excited!! It's going to be so nice to actually get to spend some time with them while she's not fighting with my dad!
I think that's it for now. I love my birthday!!!

So our challenge this week was to try calorie cycling. I've always heard that this is a great way to jumpstart your metabolism and keep it guessing, but I've never actually TRIED it (even though I've suggested it to others!!) and I have to tell you, I really like it!! It's fun to be thinking "Wow, today is a high day, and after dinner, I'll still have 3o0 calories left to eat!!" and somewhat challenging to think of ways to reduce calories while still feeling satisfied. If it pays off this week (which HOPEFULLY it will since I've been at a bit of a stand still the past few weeks) I think I will continue it.
I've also been doing better with veggies and fruits. Fruits are going out of season now, but I've been getting some grapes from Aldis, so thats been helping. Although today husband found a fingernail sized dead spider in his grapes, so I won't be eating any more of this batch!!!
Things are going pretty well. Our visit with Johnny's parents was great. He and his dad got A LOT of projects around the house finished up, and his mom and I spent A LOT of time shopping! She got me some new clothes for my birthday and because nothing I owned before fit me, I was swimming in everything. So now hopefully looking better in the clothes I just bought will kick me into high gear to lose some more of this weight.
We are both feeling better. He's still got it worse than I do, it did end up being a virus rather than a bacterial infection, as the antibiotics did nothing for him (for the record, I was right, but I haven't rubbed it in his face ). He's still coughing a lot, but I'm pretty much over it. Still a little snotty sometimes, but what else is new!! jk jk
Mom and SK come on Thursday for my birthday. I love celebrating my birthday. As you can probably tell. I pretty much celebrate it the entire 2nd half of October now. It's awesome. They will be here til Sunday morning. It will be nice to be able to spend time with them. Thursday night when they get here we will go to Taste, my favorite restaurant, and it's a high calorie day so I win!! Friday, unfortunately I have to work, but it's Halloween so we have a parade at school. It's way fun. Saturday we might go shopping or something. It will be a nice low key weekend.
I found out that another of my students shares my birthday! I'm now up to 2 kindergarteners, a 1st grader and a 6th grader. And I have the 6th grader on our birthday! Can't wait.
All in all, things are good. Well, those things are anyway. I'll write a whole other novel of an entry someday about some of the things that still suck. But I try not to let those get me down :)

Last night, Johnny got home and he felt worse, but he still wanted to go out to dinner. We took his parents to one of our new favorite restaurants, Stavies. I did really good at the restaurant, totally stayed within my calories, made good choices. But during dinner, Johnny started feeling worse, so we ended up taking him to Urgent Care.
We got there, and got into see the doctor, and the doctor was a total a**hole. He was condescending, sarcastic, and completely unsympathetic. He told Johnny that it's more than likely a virus (really didn't do any sort of check up other than look in his hears, check his throat and breathing). But he gave him a prescription for an antibiotic and cough medicine anyway. He was a jerk about it. But at least we got a prescription.
So we go and get it filled, then come home, give him his meds, and go to bed. I still have a nasty cough so I took some of the cough medicine at about 3am.
About 430, he wakes me up because his eyes are totally crusted shut. I took him into the bathroom and washed his eyes out with some warm water. His mom woke up and helped us, his eyes were bright red, but it's more than likely not pink eye because it's in both eyes. While she was helping him, all of a sudden I started seeing stars and getting shortness of breath, and almost fainted!! WTF IS UP WITH THAT?! I sat down on the toilet, they opened the bathroom window and the rush of cold air helped. I sat in there for a while, and determined that I more than likely got overheated, because I get really hot when I sleep.
Thats happened to me a few times before. The first time it ever happened I was in church with my parents, just getting over a flu. I went outside and felt instantly better. Then another time I was in my 8th grade art class at the end of the day. I'd felt off all day, cold and then hot, and then when we were lining up at the end of class, my face turned white and I couldn't hear or see anything. Again, I went outside, and felt better. I am not allowed to donate blood anymore because right at the end, the last 1/10 of the bag or so, I faint. I have really low blood pressure, and I think it just drops sometimes. But seriously, freaky.
I'm feeling fine now, still a little congested but it's breaking up a bit now. Just freaky.

I just spent the last 45 minutes doing some exercise video with one of the P.E. teachers, because she had to preview it for her class and we're both stuck in the library. No one else wanted to join in, but the computer teacher hacked into the computer we were watching it on (and dancing in front of) and recorded us doing it, and sent it out to the whole school!!! We've had more visitors in the past half hour than the entire day!!
So for that, I burned almost 350 calories. I'm feeling a little better about going over my calories today for doing some extra cardio stuff. I don't know what it will do for my weight loss, but at least I'm in better spirits. Exercise really does work wonders!
