goals met!

Friday, July 27, 2012

Just a quick note to say that my two goals for this year have been met. I am growing and eating and discovering the wonderful versatile vegetable....KALE!! The best so far, besides the green smoothies is just olive oil and garlic and kale sauted, and sometimes served with a small amount of black beans. delish!! My other goal was to run a 5K. Now, granted, I didn't win and I only really loped....but I did it and it was super fun because it was the COLOR RUN!! What a fun time! Hope to do one again in the near future!

Lucky Day!

Saturday, May 05, 2012

An interesting thing happened to me on my way home from work. It was my very last shift of night-turn at Heartland Behavioral Healthcare. I stopped at a little festival on the way home and while walking through the field, I found 2 4-leaf clovers. A little girl was admiring them so I let her pick the one she wanted. Then, I come home and take the dog out and would you believe, I found another one in the yard? Any advice from my spark people community on this luckiest of days??

I used to find them all the time when I was little but not so much since I became grown. I remember putting them in my pocket until they got mashed when my mom did laundry but hey I really did think they were lucky. So maybe you will get lucky too. Thanks for this happy post! emoticon

Alot to be thankful for this Friday....

Friday, April 27, 2012

I was so overwelmed yesterday. One thing I have to tell myself more is that "this too shall pass." My dad is continuing to improve each day. I am very lucky to still have my parents around. I have friends whose parents died when they were teenagers. I just can't imagine that. So remembering what a great life I have had thus far and how much I love them.

Thank you to my sparkfriends who said a little prayer for me. Prayers were definately answered.

My life right this minute.....

Thursday, April 26, 2012

So, yeah, to say I'm overwelmed is an understatement. My Dad just had major surgery, he's 89. Now he is recovering ok from the surgery, but now has some issues with his heart and kidney function. I have been monitoring him, I can't really say taking care of him, because he is able to do much on his own and he is much more independent than most his age, but he needs looked after, encouraged and prompted. He is also incontinent of bladder, and developed a small bedsore while in the hospital. His legs are swollen and haven't improved in 5 days in spite of Lasix addition. He hasn't been able to bathe d/t the mobility issue, so I have been doing what I can for him in that area. We have pretty much gotten the sore healed up and I am thankful for that. I have communicated with the doctor which looks like this may be a daily occurence related to the swelling. We have a plan and record keeping set up for his weights and BPs measurements. I am a nurse, so it makes this whole thing a little easier since it comes natural to me. I am surprised at my patience.

Did I mention I work nightshift? And in May I start a new job on dayshift? Hopefully, he will be more independent and others can help out a little more by that time. But you know how that goes, everyone is busy, has little kids, doesn't live closeby, etc. All true enough....

Also, I am assisting my daughter who lives out of town with preparations for a wedding that she is the maid of honor in. I am designing and printing and sending out the shower invitations. iiiyiiiyiii! as if.....

Meanwhile, I would just love to mop my kitchen.

Anyone else need anything done?

Thanks for listening SparkPeople-People! Say a little prayer for me, would ya?
