Dim Sum-Yum Yum

Monday, January 30, 2012

Last night, son #2, the pilot , was overnight in Vancouver--
He visited, "'Hon's House of Noodles""----on the main street there.
Of course, he had Dim Sum-----

This restaurant has the best Chinese Food--I can vouch for that--Husband and I were there a few years ago--inexpensive--and tasty--and full of calories--

-just looking at the food, makes your mouth water---

sticky rice, wrapped in lotus leaves----pork hash--harGow--
Chinese people always take pictures of great food---

These pictures made me gain 8 pounds--just looking at them--overnight!!
Lord Love a Duck_____There really is nothing as good as great Chinese Food---!-

--definitely not on the Spark food plan-----
So----It's Monday----- Son #1 heads off to Hawaii soon----Lucky him--and life goes on here---me and my Dreadmill--and snow----
Enjoy the day Sparklers----
Somewhere overhead, there is a pilot, heading back to Toronto, with his Tummy full of Dim Sum--Yum Yum!!

Definitely Dim-Sum Yummo! I can't behave myself with Chinese food either. so, it is a rare and special treat I savor.

Hope you're having a good day.

Had my annual check up today. In good shape for the shape I'm in! Of course, there's the usual weigh in. Didn't dread it this time!

The Dr. walked in and the first comment was, "Well, bet you didn't keep the weight off." Silently I'm screaming LOOK @ ME, LOOK @ THE CHART. Then she DID look @ the chart. "You DID keep it off". YUP. No way I'm going back there. Anyway, she said to the nurse in the room, "She's the only patient who listened to my advice". Whhhhaaat??? What advice??? I did all my own research, found SP, did the nutrition and exercise. All she did was inform me that I had type 2 diabetes! Oh well, I let that one slide. **SIGH** Life is fun, isn't it!

Well, don't have my "numbers" yet, but should in one or three days (more like seven, but whatever) and she did say she looked at them preliminarily and they looked good. Alrighty, good enough for me. Looking to see what my A1C, FBS, LDL/HDL/cholesterol and triglycerides are. Soon enough.

Caio for now.

I also love Chinese food, but there is something in it, that does not agree with me, I end up feeling so sick after eating it... Of course, it could the carbs affecting my Blood Sugars, but I also can NOT behave when I eat Chinese so I stay away from it.... Looks so good!!!! I try to make some kind
of different versions of it at home, but it never tastes the same.... Like you say... Lord Love A Duck!! LOL!!!

The Aussie Open--Exercise and me!

Sunday, January 29, 2012

The Australian Open is on TV--It's over to-day!
There is a "'Rain Delay"" right now--while they close the roof.
I'm not a "'tennis fanatic"", like husband and daughter--but--it's pretty hard not to get caught up in the finals, as daughter calls husband almost hourly , discussing who should win--It comes on here, at 3-30am---goes till 8-30am , or so--- the time over there gives us these freaky hours--
So, for the past 10 days , or so, I hear the shreaks and yells, as they hit the ball--

Exercise to me is more like , a swim---the treadmill in the winter, a fast walk up the highway as soon as the winter warms up--which is not happening in the near future--Exercise tapes are good---my back board is something I use daily---It's a curved board that you lie back on-- It got me over sciatica--and now a strained something in my back, after shovelling snow-

I used to teach fitness ---- on land--and in the pool---
My pool class was called ""Skinny Dip""-- All my classes were choreographed to music-I believe that music will help you really get into exercise--
I also used to ""run""--I even have done a couple 10 mile races---Some of best thoughts, have come, during a "'run""--or a fast walk, up the highway--
Exercise must increase the blood flow to the brain--thus the great thoughts--
Exercise to me, is something I enjoy doing alone--It is "'me"" time""---
Exercise too, I believe, is as important as brushing your teeth--- It should be part of yer day---(like brushing your teeth)---

I hear tennis is back on--rain delay over----- so--off I go to catch the end--- WooWoo!!!

I look back and can't believe that I let daily exercise get away from me. Before I had kids, I used to run 5 miles a day, play golf and raquetball and swim. Once I gained the weight from my first child, it just never came off and I could never find the time to do really exercise like I did before. No excuses, I know and after all of the difficulty I had in having her, I finally had my precious baby and that was all that I cared about. Then two more kids, and the weight just didn't seem as important as my three little miracles. I really should have done something back then to get fit. But we learn from our mistakes. I just wish I had realized back then that I could feel as good as I do now. emoticon

Tess, the German SPup in the snow--5 mos
There is soft snow falling this morning. It is beautiful--to look at---
The drive to town might be a different story.
Hopefully this snow will stop falling soon--

Yesterday I was in shock---- I put a comment on Kaseycoff's Spark page, that I hadn't read her ""daily blog"" for a few days-----I wrote a little note to ask how things were and how much I depend on her news from ""across the pond""---
She sent a lovely message back, telling me she hasn't done her daily blog, for various reasons--and might not continue them.
For years, (it seems)--I've held her in such high esteem--- She is at her goal weight--Her diabetes is under control-I think she is off her meds for high blood pressure--Spark has done all this for her--Well-her hard work on Spark-

How many times do we just think things will always be , the way they were?
Kaseycoff is such a thought provoking writer------has been so successful in Spark--
I told her all this---I told her that "'I"" need her---- "I" need to see that a perfectly ordinary person can do so well---and --that---If she can--maybe I can--

But----Spark teaches us--""If it's going to be--It's up to me""----
I don't like change---I like to read about success---
Maybe now I have to stand on my own 2 feet---- sobbing here--
Lordy Be!!!---Lord Love a Duck!---Now we all better be as successful as this person---
You think we can be?--
So--off I go here to face the world ----
""If it's going to be--It's up to me""-----

I so agree with you!! I have "lost" some very special people on here, but then I had the most wonderful surprise, when one came back and on purpose tried to find me again, and DID!! I was overjoyed! So never lose hope!! Sometimes we just get burned out, and feel we have run out of things we feel people will even care about to read. I have pulled back from my Blogging as well, to some degree, but when the Spark hits me, I will write one. You have been such a wonderful friend, so you are STUCK with me my dear!! HUGS!! Shannon

Change is hard for many people. Even those of us who think we "thrive" on change.

A wise woman once quoted to me that people come into our lives for "a reason, a season, or a lifetime". While it's sad to see those draw back that we'd been relying on (I, too, miss Kasey's blogs... and I miss WalkingAnnie, who disappeared quite a while back, and many others)... you are so right we have to keep the course.

Because in the end, it is YOU who make the difference in your own life... emoticon and remember: you're worth it!

Things do change. Recently, I was thinking about a good spark friend whom I had not heard from in a long time. I stopped by her page and there was a note about her being in a serious motor vehicle accident. She is still not back and I miss her. I just hope that even though the recovery is taking some time that she does recover.

Take care and know that things do change and we change too.

I don't like when friends disappear from our community either. For most of them, the online world is our only connection. That's one of the disadvantages of our cyber world, but there are so many more advantages. We wouldn't even know them without it. They bless our lives. We carry away forever the things they have added to our lives.
Yes, if it's to be, it's up to us. No one else can do this for us. The encouragement here creates a spark in our lives to push us on.

What a beautiful dog. It's snowing here, too.

Let that be my mantra too...."If it is to be, it's up to me." I love that kind of thinking. I always tell myself that weight loss and regaining health are something that no one can do for me, only I have the power to do this, give this gift to myself. So let it be. Now, just know that YOU can do it!!!! Yes you CAN!!! emoticon emoticon

Change can be good. We have to embrass it with an attitude of gratitude. I am thinking -- let us be grateful for our Spark family and know that even though we might not be intouch as often as we would like--- we are are still working on the same goal-- being healthy. Hang in there!!

So many of us have benefited from Kasey's wisdom, and continue to be inspired by her journey. We all learn so much from each other. And you're right, the phrase says it all...it's ultimately up to us to make it happen. Although having the support and friendship of our SP helps to keep us going.

I think we read other people's blobs to live vicariously through them...that if they are successful and have hit their goals, then we'll be successful too! I love reading about others struggles and how they got through them because it helps me figure out why I haven't been...or as successful that I want to be. This takes work and more work and can't be handed to us on a silver platter. You are absolutely right that "if it's going to be--it's up to me!" I love that! emoticon

Betty White, water bottles, and funerals-

Friday, January 27, 2012

my beautiful GRAND DAUGHTER ON THE RT-
I did manage to get through yesterday---a dreary sorta sloppy day outside---and my mind was in one of those ""I wish I was on a beach"" day---- The hatch in husband's vehicle got fixed--- my hair got done--I made it on the treadmill--
Everyday is really a good day , when you get time to exercise--

This morning, I was thinking about who is a role model to me----
You know who it is??-----""Betty White""--who just turned 90 yrs old--who seems as smart as a whip--
After I watched her TV show--a tribute to her on her Birthday--I painted my nails a bright pink--(Hers were red)--- She looked SO good--and was always smiling and laughing-- I want to be like her at 90 yrs ---She must be healthy too---
Now--on a different topic here--my Brita water bottle, with a filter right inside the bottle, came yesterday---- I like the other one I have better (no filter in it but a wider mouth)--You know, if it weren't for Spark, I would still be drinking from those plastic bottles-- Crazy!!

To change topic again, I have a sister whose Mother-in-law fell, at 89 yrs--broke her hip--then after they fixed that---she had a heart attack-This Lady had been completely independent till the day she fell----Now she apparently is dying--- The sister's husband has rushed to her side (like a good son should)--but--my sister chose not to go--but is waiting for a considerable sum of $$$$ to be given to her husband---Sad!!! --Lord Love a Duck!!--When my time comes (and it never happens at a convenient time)-I hope my children-AND their spouses will take the time to say good bye to me------ and will not be just sitting on the sidelines waiting for an inheritance--Maybe its better to rethink the $$$$ thing---
So----life is a-happening here-The Germans have been out--It's minus 2C---freezing rain coming down---Grocery day!And all is well--Yabba Dabba Doo!!--WE CAN do this! Try to eat healthy---GUUDA MORNING !

I agree with the spending the money before you go, but the problem with that is finding out which is the right time to do it. Ending up depending financially on the children due to having spent the money ahead of time is not such a good thing, either.
If there is enough to go around, and if there is enough for rainy days, then spend some, I would say.
People who never care about relatives are usually the ones who show up first when it comes to receiving the inheritance. That is very sad.

I always love your blogs - they give us so much to think about. Don't you just love Betty White -- what a great role model for all women.

It's sad that all some people can think of is money when someone passes from this life, but it's also very, very, common. What makes me the most sad is when someone inherits money or property that a loved one worked for and saved their whole life, and then spends it in a short time on things like trips to Disneyworld and material possessions they quickly lose interest in, and then the money is just gone. **Poof** Oh well. Let's all stay healthy and live long lives so we don't have to tempt others to waste the money we've worked for and saved because we're using it all ourselves!!!

You are braver than me to venture out in freezing rain. I am so afraid of ice.

Do have a good day and hope we both are happy and healthy at age 90. My Father is 90 but his health is declining. His pneumonia is better so he went back to the nursing home yesterday and is not happy. Sis and I visited yesterday and he would talk to us. It just broke my heart but know there is nothing we can do - it takes two people to move him and sis just can do it by herself.

She tried after his hospitalization in November and now may have to have some sholder surgery.

I did talk to the social worker there and she said it is not unusual so we give him some space and time to get used to his new surroundings.

Hugs to you, Sunny

I agree about spending it before you go. My problem is that my kids have already spent it!! My grandmother was like your sister's mother in law. She was 98, lived alone, cooked, cleaned and went to the casino with her seniors group. My granddad used to have a saying about her " If you told Rebecca (my granny) you were going to hell, she'd say wait until I get my pocketbook." She too fell in her house and broke her hip (more likely her hip broke and then she fell) and after that it was all downhill. 6 months after she turned 99 she had a fatal stroke. She used to say she was going to make it to 100 and I could just hear her saying that she had been so close. Before her broken hip she was a whirlwind, always on the go and full of energy-I wish I had her energy at my age. Somedays it is all I can do just to get out of bed!!
