Counting calories works-

Thursday, February 02, 2012

Last night was puppy class--Tess, the GSPup, did terrible---
On the way home, husband and I stopped at McDonald's for supper.
We ate in the car----
I knew this was going to happen----so---before I left, I checked the McDonald's site online. I wanted to see how many calories in their sandwiches--
Of course, husbands and mine, favourite thing to eat is an Angus Deluxe , with fries and a cone---
Now get this-----1 Angus Deluxe has 740 calories--with 2070 sodium--then add a small fry , with 200 calories, and that is pretty much yoyur total calories for the day---So-----with my new resolution of getting my weight under the 200 mark, in the next 3 mos., (It's Do or Die here!)---I knew I just couldn't eat my favourite MicMac meal----(crying here!)-
So I began to search for food that I could eat----
A regular hamburger is 250 calories--Hmmmmm
A big Mac is 540 calories ----
A quarter pounder is 740 calories---
So----- Guess what I settled on?---- Chicken McNuggets-- 5-6 of those are 190 calories with 360 sodium--and add a small fry , of 200 calories--(NO ice cream cone)---for a total of 390 calories--I added a coffee --no sugar--to fill me up, as husband devoured his mammoth sandwich----and when I got home, ate an orange--

Well, I did it!! The hardest part was at the window--to get my mouth to say what ""I"" wanted-----but---I did it!!
I didn't die from starvation overnight----
AND-----my weight is DOWN------""DOWN"""""---2 pounds , this am--
Lord Love a Duck eh????
I am now 7.5 lbs away from the 200 mark---
Feb 2nd-----GroundHog Day -----I've bveen successful for 2 whole days----
But----It's a challenge--It's NOT easy----It's a lot of talking to myself---

Anyway-----HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY_--He is not going to see his shadow here, me thinks---so, Spring just might be around the corner--
That little groundhog looks pretty chubby----me thinks----

I have already went through all the fast food places we might go to to see what the best option would be.

I miss Big Mac's! We never really ate Micky D's often before, but that was what I got. Their little chicken wraps are pretty good, and not much for calories

Happy Ground Hog day to you too, my friend. 6 more weeks of Winter or 6 Weeks until Spring. Either way works for me.

Good job on the healthier choices. When I eat at McDonalds, I usually get the plain hambuger with a small side salad/low fat-calorie dressing and water. If I want something sweet, which I usually do, I get the Yogurt Parfait. It is awesome!!

Do have a good day. My Dear Father has now decided to quit eating. Bless his heart. I am off to the shower and down to see what is going on with him.

Have a GREAT day. Sunny

Kailua Beach--in Hawaii--
Feb. 1st------a new month---This is a new beginning for me--- I am aiming for 4 pounds this month----4 lbs next month--and 4 pounds the next month--
So by May 1st--I shall be down by 12 pounds--that would take me down-under the 200 mark--Everyday will be a challenge ---
Thanks for all the encouragement yesterday---
Yesterday I practiced----I drank water from my own water bottle---BPA-free-
I did not journal tho---- (sob sob)-
I did exercise-----I did well all day--till after supper--then blew it--
To-day, there is no blowing it--- This is the real thing--
Son #1, the restaurant owner, leaves for Hawaii to-day--
Son #2, the pilot is back on terra firma, after a stint of flying-a 'pairing' , as he calls it--
Daughter called from Ohio and said it was 58 F there yestetrday--Imagine!
Son#3, the Policeman-the always, angry one, even called yesterday, to speak to husband-

So----the world seems to be unfolding the way it should----
That means----getting offa here ----and facing the Dreadmill--
Please God, help me to-day, to have a good Spark Day---
We must do this----
If it's going to be--it's up to me----!
Good morning Sparklers!

It was, however, very beautiful here today - 60 and lots of sunshine....

This is DEFINITELY one of those mocha-chocka-valium-vodka latte days for me, too. Oh well, at least it's mid week, new day, new month AND Groundhog's Day.

Lucky son #1 heading for Hawaii!!! I'll take it!

Me too me too... I can SEE onederland but have a little over 10 pounds to feel it. I do great in the mornings then not so great in the evenings. I have all kinds of other non scale victories and woo hoo, including seeing changes in my family going the way things should go... so now it is just a matter of letting my weight slip into place. Just! Good luck with this.

We CAN!

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Good Morning -------
Say good-bye to January---2012--
And here comes a whole new month--
"Think big-start small"---- a motivational saying-
"I didn't get here by dreaming about it or thinking about it___I got here by doing it."
"Set your goals high and don't let anybody tell you no"--
"If you think you can, you're right. If you think you can't, you're right."
and my favourite----
"We can do anything we want to do if we stick with it long enough."
These are from a small book, called, "'Witty words""----
But just think---- there is Feb., then March-- then April----3 months--then summer----
I could do a lot in 3 months--- in the ""losing weight department""--4 pounds a month---realistically--that could be 12 pounds minimum----a whole size!--It could bring down the blood pressure--- It could mean a shorter skirt----lower the blood sugar---
So-----"'If it's going to be--it's up to me!""---
3 months in one's life-time-----is nothing-----
To-day could be a practice day---
That means journaling ALL day to-day----
OK--Here goes-----Any Sparklers with me??---- 12 pounds minimum-- by May 1st----
We CAN!!!

Maintenance is the same way . . . no excuses!!!

Had my check up yesterday and am happy to say that I can remain off my Metformin though I don't have my lab report yet, that what the Dr. told me. B/P med cut in 1/2 and likely will be kicking that one off the roster by Spring. WooHOo.

So let's keep up the mojo!

LOVE Maxine. She's a pip.

Dim Sum-Yum Yum

Monday, January 30, 2012

Last night, son #2, the pilot , was overnight in Vancouver--
He visited, "'Hon's House of Noodles""----on the main street there.
Of course, he had Dim Sum-----

This restaurant has the best Chinese Food--I can vouch for that--Husband and I were there a few years ago--inexpensive--and tasty--and full of calories--

-just looking at the food, makes your mouth water---

sticky rice, wrapped in lotus leaves----pork hash--harGow--
Chinese people always take pictures of great food---

These pictures made me gain 8 pounds--just looking at them--overnight!!
Lord Love a Duck_____There really is nothing as good as great Chinese Food---!-

--definitely not on the Spark food plan-----
So----It's Monday----- Son #1 heads off to Hawaii soon----Lucky him--and life goes on here---me and my Dreadmill--and snow----
Enjoy the day Sparklers----
Somewhere overhead, there is a pilot, heading back to Toronto, with his Tummy full of Dim Sum--Yum Yum!!

Definitely Dim-Sum Yummo! I can't behave myself with Chinese food either. so, it is a rare and special treat I savor.

Hope you're having a good day.

Had my annual check up today. In good shape for the shape I'm in! Of course, there's the usual weigh in. Didn't dread it this time!

The Dr. walked in and the first comment was, "Well, bet you didn't keep the weight off." Silently I'm screaming LOOK @ ME, LOOK @ THE CHART. Then she DID look @ the chart. "You DID keep it off". YUP. No way I'm going back there. Anyway, she said to the nurse in the room, "She's the only patient who listened to my advice". Whhhhaaat??? What advice??? I did all my own research, found SP, did the nutrition and exercise. All she did was inform me that I had type 2 diabetes! Oh well, I let that one slide. **SIGH** Life is fun, isn't it!

Well, don't have my "numbers" yet, but should in one or three days (more like seven, but whatever) and she did say she looked at them preliminarily and they looked good. Alrighty, good enough for me. Looking to see what my A1C, FBS, LDL/HDL/cholesterol and triglycerides are. Soon enough.

Caio for now.

I also love Chinese food, but there is something in it, that does not agree with me, I end up feeling so sick after eating it... Of course, it could the carbs affecting my Blood Sugars, but I also can NOT behave when I eat Chinese so I stay away from it.... Looks so good!!!! I try to make some kind
of different versions of it at home, but it never tastes the same.... Like you say... Lord Love A Duck!! LOL!!!

The Aussie Open--Exercise and me!

Sunday, January 29, 2012

The Australian Open is on TV--It's over to-day!
There is a "'Rain Delay"" right now--while they close the roof.
I'm not a "'tennis fanatic"", like husband and daughter--but--it's pretty hard not to get caught up in the finals, as daughter calls husband almost hourly , discussing who should win--It comes on here, at 3-30am---goes till 8-30am , or so--- the time over there gives us these freaky hours--
So, for the past 10 days , or so, I hear the shreaks and yells, as they hit the ball--

Exercise to me is more like , a swim---the treadmill in the winter, a fast walk up the highway as soon as the winter warms up--which is not happening in the near future--Exercise tapes are good---my back board is something I use daily---It's a curved board that you lie back on-- It got me over sciatica--and now a strained something in my back, after shovelling snow-

I used to teach fitness ---- on land--and in the pool---
My pool class was called ""Skinny Dip""-- All my classes were choreographed to music-I believe that music will help you really get into exercise--
I also used to ""run""--I even have done a couple 10 mile races---Some of best thoughts, have come, during a "'run""--or a fast walk, up the highway--
Exercise must increase the blood flow to the brain--thus the great thoughts--
Exercise to me, is something I enjoy doing alone--It is "'me"" time""---
Exercise too, I believe, is as important as brushing your teeth--- It should be part of yer day---(like brushing your teeth)---

I hear tennis is back on--rain delay over----- so--off I go to catch the end--- WooWoo!!!

I look back and can't believe that I let daily exercise get away from me. Before I had kids, I used to run 5 miles a day, play golf and raquetball and swim. Once I gained the weight from my first child, it just never came off and I could never find the time to do really exercise like I did before. No excuses, I know and after all of the difficulty I had in having her, I finally had my precious baby and that was all that I cared about. Then two more kids, and the weight just didn't seem as important as my three little miracles. I really should have done something back then to get fit. But we learn from our mistakes. I just wish I had realized back then that I could feel as good as I do now. emoticon
