Don't take life too serious!

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Things never were ""the way they used to be.""
Things never will be "the way it's going to be someday.""
Things are always just the way they are for the time being.
And the time being is always in motion.

by----Xenopouloudakis, "'Words I Wish I wrote""

--just something to think about on this rainy Sunday--'Husband just came up and announced that he just heard on CBC radio, that there is a gene that causes heart disease---and that people who eat 2-4 servings of fruits and veggies /day, can rise above heart disease, even with that gene--But--We, Sparklers, knew all this--I think!

I just read in the Canadian Farmer's Almanac for 2012, that if you are going to Spark forever (as I feel I might !)--and if you are a Giant Tortoise, and your life span is 152 yrs, as it says in this book it is, you will receive a lot of Spark points in your life time. But then again, if you were a Bee, or a Gerbil, their life span is only 5 yrs--so-----well, you see where I'm going with this---Ha Ha--Crazy facts!--So much info!!--

It's raining--The ol' weight is SLOWLY going down AGAIN----I'm warning all the US Sparklers out there----- Be Careful of that Pumpkin Pie---It makes your body resemble-a pumpkin---and the scales rise--- It happened here----and I'm still fighting it!!
Enjoy to-day---Eat fruit and veggies---- and don't be too serious!

Resident cat-and fat!

Saturday, October 15, 2011

This is Coal--the GSDog------and Snoop, the fat cat----- looking out at the bird feeder--
I never mention our resident cat--I guess , because he just blends in--
He was a "'donation"" from son #4--He was 6 yrs--We have had him, about 7 yrs--
so--he is not young---
When I picked him up at the shelter (after my son had dropped him off 4 mos prior)--he was sick--very thin---coughing---afraid--
For 6 mos, he lived under our bed--only came out if I dragged him out by the tail--
He still is not a cat who sits willingly on yer lap--but, every evening, down he comes, and sits beside me on the couch--
He has earned his keep-----One Xmas, cornered a mouse in a wall----which I had heard the scratching, but assumed it was the Xmas tree hitting the wall--- Eventually the mouse popped out--and, Snoop , the cat grabbed it, as I was screaming for husband to wake up from his chair in front of the TV---
From then on, husband decided ,Snoop could take up residence permantly, in our home---
Last night , I got up, and found Snoop asleep in the dog bed---the dog confused and lying in the hall---
The dog weighs 120 lbs-----but is just a ""wee boy"" in his huge body---
So------that is the story of the animals living here--the ones I run around, changing their water bowls, putting outside, feeding breakfast, all, before I spark , in the dark--
Life is good for them!

Right now, I am fighting the fat , I gained over Thanksgiving--
Take it from me, all you Sparklers who are waiting for your Turkey dinner--You don't need that pumpkin pie--Trust me!! ---That pie is causing me to fight even more fat right now----
Oh man! Will I ever learn?
The Dreadmill is calling-----Tis raining-----The battle of the bulge continues!

Husband (who has not a drop of fat on him) with grandson-

Luv the pics. We just lost our "rescued" cat who too earned his keep by keeping the mouse population down in our house. Miss him so much. Two and a half years ago we had 3 cats and now they're all gone. And then we lost our boxer just a year ago so now we're down to two dogs. This losing of our furry four-legged friends just seems to get harder and harder. Enjoy yours while you have them - they are so special and only with us for a short while!

Cute story about resident cat! And GS's dog really does sound like a little boy in a big boy's body.

Oh, ture that about pumpkin pie! A moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips. **SIGH** Then there are those like your hubby with NO fat (and I'll bet he can eat anything, right! NOT FAIR I say!)

Have a great day.

45 yrs married--I think!

Friday, October 14, 2011

The FAMILY we created---

We had our wedding anniversary yesterday---or--maybe it is to-day---I think it's to-day--- Lord Love a Duck!!! I must look it up----
45 years-----hard to believe!
We met in the nursery at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa--
He was interning-I was the "'head nurse"" there---
He drove me crazy , as had all my student nurses goggling at him--not doing their work---
Our first date , was a ""double date""--- It started off with us both with other people--
He was from Jamaica--Chinese--Catholic--everything my parents thought was terrible!
Funny how times change eh?
We eloped--married at the Police Station---picked up flowers from the market---
2 weeks later, we married (again)--in Fallowfield Catholic Church--near Ottawa--
Many moons later, and 5 children, we were the ones my parents turned to as they aged--
Husband is a very dependable man--- He is 83 yrs young--still working as a Family Physician----helps me with yard work and vacuums--(very important when one has dogs)--
Is our marriage perfect??-- NO!!!!!
Lordy Be! It's hard being married and he makes me really angry at times--Go figure eh??--
I guess that is pretty normal--Ha Ha--
Sometimes I even believe that marriage should have a "'time limit-""--say--10 YRS---then re-negotiate---
Would I re-negotiate to ""stay in""???---
Well, I guess-----Family to me is so important----He really is my rock---I think!!!--

Husband at his party ----with some grown sons

Congratulations Lynda...its so nice to hear because today you don't see young couples try on their marriages like we did. Yes everyone goes through tough times but i have learned that the one person you can depend on is your spouse. Through thick (thats me now lol) and thin (me when we first got married hehehe)we have presevered. Its not always easy to be married but hey i think its one of the best things in life. I love the picture you posted of your hubby and grown kids....everyone looks so happy in it. Again congrats...you deserve it :))

You have a beautiful family and you sound really happy after 45 years. I married my high school sweetheart 38 years ago and still think it was the best thing that ever happened to me. And the fact that your husband is still working at 83 is great. I bet his patients love him. Our family doctor retired at 90 a few years ago and we still haven't found one we like half as much. KASEYCOFF----spots---and procedure turned down!

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Yesterday we drove to the city (a 2 hr drive)-to visit a Dermatologist--

I have developed ''brown spots""--or--""age spots""---on my face--
I needed--or thought I needed --to know how to reverse these.
We have had the appointment for 6 mos----
Well, guess what??--- There ARE ways to get rid of them--I mean--ALL of them----but to me , they seem pretty drastic--
The Dr. did take 2 large ones off--with a type of liquid freezing--or something--
And then she suggested that the best treatment would be a chemical peel---- (No! No! No!)--or a proccedure done with a lazar with water--- a 4 hr procedure done in her office--with antiviral meds (in case you have a cold sore somewhere)--ativan--(for nerves before she starts)--cortisone (to help with the swelling)-and 2 types of narcotics for pain, plus a bit of freezing also in sensitive areas on the face. My reply was, ""It must be terribly painful to have to take all that"", I said----- oh------ and-----the kicker was, the Dermatologist added that you would not want to face the world for at least 5 days as you would not look or feel too well afterwards----(like--""HELLO""----I guess not!)
""Oh, my Lord"", I heard myself say to her-------""Isn't there any other way to diminish these spots--to lighten them---- ?"""
Well, it turns out, there ARE creams -----but, her procedure wipes away ALL wrinkles too---At least that's what she said----
And it probably does------but, the ""NURSE"" inside me was screaming-----""BARBARIC"""--and ""TOO MANY DRUGS""-----
So, I have returned home-----WITH my brown spots ------I do have some creams she recommended-------and I guess the sun will never be my friend-----
It must all come with age--you think?--or as Kaseycoff says--""AIN"T IT""?

DOn't even get me started. I am so glad you chose the creams. Those brown spots, I have them too, on hands and face are medals. You raised your kids, medal. You kept your marriage together, 3 medals, that's a hard one. You keep your house and yard every day, medal. The list goes on and on. Be beautiful just the way you are. Would you consider a facelift? I doubt it. Same goes. Nama spots are important and don't you ever forget it.

In addition to dark spots, I also have moles on my face. At first I thought, good one just like Marilyn Monroe and Anne Francis. But then 3 hairs started growing out of it. Not so good now. I have 3 moles and several spots that look like they will develop into moles. Then with age come the hairs on the chin. Moles other places also (thanks, Dad).

Guess we can either take them as "badges of aging" or try to remove them. It all depends on your point of view or how bad you want them diminished or gone.

Personally I'm too rattled by medical procedures on myself or family that I have had to care for. Vaso-vagal syndrome (one Dr called it "white coat syndrome") is what I get at times. I'm lucky I didn't pass out when DH had kidney stones(50) removed with surgery on his back to get to the kidney. Had to change dressings for several weeks while he was hooked up to a bag for his urine.

Good luck with your decision to go with the creams.

I'm with Onekidsmom- what are we buying? People have been aging and developing brown spots forever and it hasn't diminished their value as wonderful beings in any way. Like grey hair I see those spots as badges of where I've been and what I've accomplished. emoticon

I had a friend who had the lazar treatments and she was red for a week but the end result was amazing. I am not sure I could do it but wanted you to know that even though it sounds barbaric, it does give results.

I liked the idea of the ativan. Make it valium and I might consider it. Hehehe (not really)

Love you - just the way you are - age spots and all.

Holy age spots! That treatment sounds radically drastic to me too! YIKES. The nurse part of me would have been screaming not just in my head, but out loud! LOL Glad you got some creams anyway.

I have never been a fan of sunbathing, which is fortunate for my skin.

LOVE your picture of the fall leaves. Gorgeous!

There are some creams out there that claim to do a pretty good job. I would try those first. The more extreme treatments will still be there (maybe even some less extreme ones will come along) if you're not happy with the over the counter results. As for myself, I think I wold try to be content with over the counter results! The procedures you describe sound like they come with some unpleasant risks and side effects. Besides, some spots, blotches, and wrinkles are just plain normal and nothing to be ashamed of!

ONEKIDSMOM 10/12/2011 7:47AM

You know, all those "procedures" sound good in the marketing brochures, but when it comes right down to it, what are we buying? Nothing against anyone who chooses to do one, but when I think of the costs (most of these are "elective", right?)... I have better things to do with the funds. I suppose it would be different if what I wanted to change was truly endangering my health.

I'm tempted every once in a while by something that might lift my sagging "girls" or reduce the loose skin on my thighs... but at what cost? Still, it's what I've done to my body with how I have lived. That's a level of "acceptance", for me. Each time I consider it, I talk myself right back out of it.

Hope those creams do some good... that's not such a bad thing to have to do, compared to the drugs and "procedure" you described. Good luck!
