My Dad-

Sunday, June 19, 2011

Grandpa and Grandma outside their home in Port Perry
My Father was special----
He was the only person in the whole world who thought I could do no wrong---
He thought I was beautiful---
He treated me, as a woman, as a person who could do anything---
He believed that women were special people, and I grew up believing I was as good , or better, than most men--I suppose that's where I get my women's lib beliefs from)--
He believed that women should be taken care of---not out there cutting grass or washing cars---a bone of contention in my marriage--Ha Ha!

He spoke highly of his own Mother--thought she worked too hard--had too many children--died too young--was very kind ---was very intelligent----She had been a teacher on Scugog Island, bnear Port Perry, when she met my Grandfather. My Grandfather already had 2 older children, and had been left to raise them as his wife had died of ""consumption""--whatever that was--

When he married Grandma, they in turn had 4 more children--so she really raised 6 children--with a wringer washer----a "'pump"" in the kitchen for water---a huge farm house--
I never knew my Grandmother as she mustve been always cooking as when we visited Grandpa, (who I loved so much)--we were a family of 6--so , no mean feat to cook for, for a weekend---
My Dad lived to be 96Yrs-----had a great sense of humor---I loved him so SO much!
He loved my kids and they loved him----
I believe he lives in my own children--

Love the old pics, wish there had been more of that lifestyle, like the wringer washer. We take for granted how easy picture taking (and sharing) is in the digital world. Back then they didn't snap pics of everyday life.

Why we Spark!

Saturday, June 18, 2011

This is Emma---- Yesterday, she graduated from Sr. Kindergarden, into Gr. One.
This was her ceremony.
She was So so proud! You can tell by her face--
I was so proud of her too!
I had so much to do yesterday--but, all things came to a halt, and I drove in to her school. She goes to an all French school---so the whole ceremony was in French---
I couldn't understand a word of it, but it was such a happy celebration!
There was music, and we danced to the "'Bird Dance""---
And you know, it was really fun---- such a nice hour out of my very busy day, and probably the most important hour!
Below is a picture of Emma with my #3 son, the policeman--her Dad--

And here is Grandma, with her Zulu hair--(that's me!)-with Emma

These little life experiences are a reminder to me of why I sit here and Spark--
It's so important to strive to be healthy!
Hava great day Sparklers and hug the children in yer life!

Zulu hair - NOT! You look terrific and Emma seems to be thrilled that you were there. I do believe and agree that is was the most important hour of your day.

I drove 8 hours to Kansas to attend my DGD's graduation from middle school and it was worth every mile I had to travel.

Priorities - knowing what they are and responding accordingly makes our life full and we feel blessed.

Ants gone!

Friday, June 17, 2011

Can you believe it? They are gone!--- The ants are gone!
Yeah!!!!--
I had to call the ""ant man"" . He sprayed around the outsiode of the kitchen along the ground--said it wasn't toxic spray, but how come he ""suited up"" like a Martian if it wasn't toxic?
He guarantees his work----
We saw a few ants a couple days after the spray----
But this morning, they seem to be gone---
Whew! My poor frig has so much stuff in it as we couldn't leave any food anywhere on the counter.
We still have tons of mosquitos---Deer flies are starting too---then there are Horse Flies--
I think the insects are taking over the world ----

Anyway, if any of you have ants--- the little Ant traps don't work--- The Ant Man calls his little business, "" Pest Problems Solved!!""-----haven't got a bill yet--but--hey--I'd say, when you start to eat the darn things, it's time to call in the big guys!

But-----I have a graduation to attend this morning of a Grandchild --She is graduating from Kindergarden to Gr One------like who has a ceremony for that??
But a Grandmother has to do what a Gamma must do, and that is attend the ceremony--
Hava good day Sparklers--but remember, If YOU BITE IT, Write It!

I hate bugs in the house! I hope your reprieve is more than just temporary and that the bill won't be too bad.

I think it is cute that they are having a kindergarden so be sure and get photos.

Take care and have a Fab Friday.

Hope the ants are gone! You might have to have the perimeter of the house sprayed on a regular basis, if you had that many ants! Sounds like there might be a nest under your place??

Have fun with your"graduate", Gramma!

Happy-

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Happy happy happy---- Yesterday I read Ricki's blog about being happy---
It made such a difference in my spirit to read this very upbeat blog--
So to-day, I have chosen to be happy---
--kinda sad that you have to decide to be happy--
But think of it--in one day, there are so many things that can get one down---

I look at Coal (the GSDog)-at my feet here----not much fizzes on him----
never watches the news -----doesn't know where his real family are--- or-how they are--
He lives for the moment---
So, to-day , I choose to be happy---
We can eat healthy--- drink water (NO POP!)--exercise---
And right now, --a gal must do what a gal must do-----And-----
THAT IS------get this body into action!
Hava great day Sparklers----

Here's hoping your have a really happy day. I love the happy days, they make everything worth while. You are right, it is a sad state of affairs when we have to decide to have a happy day rather than them just happening naturally. Enjoy yours!

One Day at a time, One meal at a time, One # at a time.

Yes, we need to stay more in the moments. I have a plaque given to me by a Nursing supervisor for Nurses Day one year. It reads -

A Nursing Career is not an accumulation of years,
It is an accumulation of moments - the same as life.

So very true!

Sorry that your team lost and so sad to hear about the rioting after the game. I think people take sports way to seriously some times.

Have a Terrific Thursday. I am off to Physical Therapy and am thinking this may be my last appointment. I am so surprised that I am doing so well - also surprised that arthritis can be so dang painful.

Hugs to you, Sunny

Another day!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Lots to do to-day--
Coal has to be at his "'spa"'--early---
The ""Ant Man"" is coming at 9am to spray outside-
Yesterday I picked up a vitamin which I had laid out on the table, and put it in my mouth- I felt a ""twig"" in my mouth-It felt like a piece of wood---
I pulled it out, and it was an ant---
I had an ant --a live ant, in my mouth----
Oh man!!!
So, I finally weakened---and called in reinforcements here--
One more piece of news---- I lost one pound-----
Now Ive lost this pound a zillion times, but-----it shows ""Hope"" here!
I'm happy bout this!
I was swimming yesterday too-----The water temperature is 66C-a wee cool!

So Sparklers----I'm offa here for now---A gal must do what a gal must do--and that is----hit the Dreadmill!

Yikes, those Ants are sure intrusive...

Hang in there and "tip" the exterminator. His service is worth it!

For the past three years we have had lots of problems with those Asian Beatles. They look like lady bugs but are nothing like them. The past year we have had an exterminator spray regularly and now - no beatles. Yea! Worth every penny I pay the exterminator.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Glad you got to go swimming.

Good morning Sunshine. I would love to be able to swim in my own lake. I'll just have to wait until July. That's when we go up country for most of the summer, and there is a lake there!! Swimming every day.
Have a great day.
