Applying Moderation For a Healthy Lifestyle

Saturday, July 20, 2013

Spark Coach has assigned this topic to write about as it applies to my healthy lifestyle journey so here goes. I have been going pretty strong with workouts and healthy dieting as well and for the past week I did have a plateau that I was getting frustrated with.

This week I was busy helping my son and daughter in law which I enjoyed, and then this weekend I got very busy with going to a Live Arts Singing Performance for my granddaughter, Anna. Of course, she was wonderful and I totally enjoyed seeing her as she sang her first public performance -- she's 9 years old.

Then I spent time cleaning like crazy, buying and preparing food, etc. for a family birthday party for my other granddaughter, Hailey, who just turned 13! We have a teenager now and I am so proud of her. It is a total joy watching these wonderful kids grow up! I know all you grandmothers out there can relate. Anyway, it was a wonderful busy weekend. Yesterday I actually took a day off from exercising -- which I think I needed to do. Today I got back on the treadmill and did my usual 55 minutes of cardio and I actually felt good doing it. I banked calories from lunch so I could spend them at dinner and I even ate ice cream for dessert. I skipped the cake because I don't really care for it. Anyway, all that to say is that in the future one day a week I am taking a day off from exercising and I think that will even improve my attitude about doing exercise. So there you have it -- a bit of moderation for my exercise program. I hope your weekend was as good as mine. For me, family times are the best times of my life!

Take care all, and make it a great day tomorrow!

Kept Busy Helping the Kids

Thursday, July 18, 2013

Today I was up at 6 and on the road by 7:30 to Charlottesville, VA about 35 miles from here where I helped my son and daughter in law get their car to be repaired and then we all went to the stores in that community where I can find some things that we don't have at home. Later in the day we went through most of their clothes and packed them up and took some things to the Good Will lady. Felt good to help them get something done. Then came home and worked out hard again. I'm tired.....so off to bed.

Later,
Sheila

I Did It Again...You'd Think I'd Learn

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

This is so embarrassing really. I know better but I can't tell you why I did it...I have not been eating enough calories each day. So I am working out like crazy and of course my body says "not enough food...better hang on to the fat" and there I find myself in another plateau. I thought I learned this lesson a month or so ago, but here I am again. I guess it is my tendency and I will have to be watching for it in the future. I tend to save calories for the end of the day and then I end up not eating them -- ergo I don't get enough -- and thus a plateau instead of weight loss!

Frustration isn't the word for it! But today I was a good girl and have eaten 1300+ calories and that is within my range so hopefully I'll break that plateau in the next day or two. I am going to start consuming more calories for lunch and that may help with this problem as well. I will be more careful in the future!

Tomorrow will be better !

Sounds like you need to plan your meals and snacks and space them out.

The Last Mistake I Made

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

This blog was assigned by Spark Coach and as always has turned out to be more than a helpful suggestion. Sunday I ended up skipping an exercise session and I usually don't do that but my reward was to go to the movies and off I went. The problem was that I didn't plan ahead far enough and impulsively went without thinking. As the theater is an hour away (I live in the middle of nowhere in Central Virginia) and so there was at least 2 hours of drive time involved. So anyway we got home late and the treadmill is in the bedroom -- so DH went to bed and that was that. I don't blame him for that at all. The real issue here is my lack of planning and prioritizing my day for what was really best for my health. Now no one is perfect and I am not beating myself up over it as at the end of the day I might lose a pound a day later than expected or some such thing... but the important take away... is that I need to plan better in the future. This has been a recurrent theme in my life -- poor planning in my personal life. My business life is where I focused and never on my personal life -- that just sort of happened. I have been in a reactive mode instead of the proactive mode. As a result there have been consequences that could have been avoided.

So here is life lesson # 1,347,616 -- note to self -- plan more carefully when considering my day and what is important and what can wait for tomorrow. Consider priorities carefully before making decisions. Remember I am the girl who didn't plan meals for the week ever and now does. I now save multiple trips to the grocery store, time and gas money getting there (remember where I live.) So I am improving my personal life issue by issue.

Well, I have been doing 55 minutes of cardio a day since then and ramping things up on the treadmill so hoping to lose another pound this week. Maybe when I blog again I will be out of the 150s! Sorry if this was boring, but it was an assignment and enlightening for me!

Thanks for listening and I hope this finds each of you working on that next pound of weight loss! Let's see how many days of exercise and healthy eating it takes to lose a pound!

Keep Sparkin',

I also do better when I plan. Sometimes I have to be as strong as "make a commitment" to myself. Planning can keep bad judgement away.

I'm at my best when I preplan. Doing so even helps me in those times that I can't plan. I can just think back to what I would have planned. Sounds silly I know, but having a plan really does help me to handle things in a pinch. emoticon

You've inspired me to get more cardio in my day and make sure I eat enough to fuel the workout...I'm still amazed by your progress! And glad there was a lesson learned.

I with you on the planning thing. I seem to always be trying to figure what's for dinner, so good job on that!

Keepin' On Keepin' On...

Monday, July 15, 2013

Well another day at the ranch guys...I have been a busy girl today. I promised myself that I would get my cardio in early and I did. I did 59 minutes of cardio today in 2 separate sessions. Why 59 minutes? Who knows? At any rate I am getting at least 2 miles in every day now. I decided to kick it up a notch as long as I feel good and my body isn't complaining. (I guess we can't call sweating complaining.) So that feels good to have that out of the way. I also managed to clean and blanch a large batch of tomatoes. I then put them into the blender after peeling them and pureed them. Then I cooked them up into a marinara sauce. I'm making and freezing marinara sauce as we have so many tomatoes. This is the second batch. Also I put 3 items on ebay and will be putting more on there later today. Tonite I'm going to do a Chicken Stir Fry with whatever veggies I have in the fridge. I need to keep doing the menu planning to eat healthy.

So I hope this finds you taking steps toward your weight loss goals. As for me I am just keepin' on keepin' on, pushing hard and staying consistent. I just want to break that 150 mark and soon.

Take care,
Sheila emoticon emoticon

I know you can do it and it'll be awesome to celebrate with you when you get there. BTW have you thought about selling your tomatoes or marinara sauce to neighbors or at market? Just a thought.

PS: 59 mins is awesome!
