My Aha Moment!

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

This was taken to how well Max can act like a circus dog, but it turned out to be my Aha! Moment. I was so embarassed to see how my body had morphed into that pear that I never wanted to be. It happened quickly and snuck up on me while I was busy kidding myself. It should have been a clue when I had to change up a pant size and the larger size was still too tight to breathe. But then again I am the queen of denial so I would daily dismiss it with a platitude such as I'll cut back and this will be no problem. Ignoring it did not make it go away and in fact, it got worse. This photo did turn out to be my Aha Moment and I am grateful that my husband, Fred, took it because it changed my attitude of dismissal to one of serious commitment to lose the weight and more importantly get healthy again. So for that I am grateful. I have been trying 2 or 3 different "diets" that didn't do very much. I am down from the 164 lb. mark last December, however, I plateaued for several months not eating enough calories. It's called starving and my body just hung desperately to that weight. Now I am eating 1200 calories and feeling much better. I am now moving the body every day and looking forward to a serious workout today! While the photo is embarassing I am posting it as motivation to myself and a reminder of where I started and how important this journey really is. I have saved my size 10 jeans and I am looking forward to the day when I can get into them and they fit me perfectly! I would love to hear what your Aha Moments are so drop me a line sometime.

Good for you Sheila....as I know.....it sometimes takes a picture that we were not expecting to help us see what we don`t want to see.

I kept some "tight clothes" that I loved and then kept trying them on to see if I had made progress. I waited a month and then tried them on but was discouraged as even though I had lost 5# by then...they still weren`t becoming loose.

It took about a 10# loss before I saw the difference and felt the difference in my clothes. You may save yourself some discouragement by waiting for a 10# loss before trying any on.

Learning Each Day

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Today was about pacing myself. I was quite tired from pushing hard for the previous 2 days starting from a sedentary lifestyle. So today, I took a slower pace and accomplished some personal things that needed doing including helping a friend. I will still be doing at least 10 minutes of exercise (maybe more depending on how I feel) as Spark Guy recommends. Tomorrow I will be back at it again. I am also still enjoying The Spark and I plan to read the Spark Solution as well. I am in this for the long haul and I am learning each day just how to do that. A healthy lifestyle doesn't just happen. We are changing some really bad habits and starting new habits -- not just one habit, but several. That's a lot really, but already I feel good about that. I am enjoying this journey and could not do that without all of you. My thanks to Callie for sharing her wisdom about "dieting" -- her words really made good sense and gave me a good perspective. Every time each of you shares a victory or even a setback -- I feel that as well because it is a privilege to share this journey with you. Take great care and here is to looking forward to a healthier tomorrow. How's that for a toast?

Optimistic About the Future

Monday, May 20, 2013

Today was a good one. I walked 2 miles with Leslie Sansone which has cardio and resistance components to it. For me that's a stretch so I can hardly get through the 2 miles, but I persevered and made it. This afternoon I did 2 miles on the treadmill so that was good to help burn a few more calories and hopefully some of it fat. We are still unpacking and getting settled from our Florida trip and I need to do some housecleaning tomorrow. Hope to break through this plateau tomorrow as well. I am still reading The Spark and learning not only about fitness but about goal setting for my life as well! It is perfect as I am exploring what I want to do next...not what I have to do. I am so grateful for you my fellow Sparkers so thanks once again for your support. It means a lot. Take care and I'll be talking with you tomorrow.

My First Blog Ever...

Sunday, May 19, 2013

emoticon This has been a great Spark Day and I can honestly say I have put in the exercise I so badly need. I did Leslie Sansone's Cardio Blaster for 2 miles and I can honestly say I worked up a sweat. I think I will probably feel it tomorrow with the stretch bands for the arms that were included. Great component. This was a good workout for me as a beginner needing to tone up the old body. I followed up this evening with another half hour on the treadmill (my old standby.) I stayed at the low end of the calories recommended and that corresponded with some good advice from Karen. So this was a good day and I feel I am back on track. I know I have a long ways to go...but all we can really deal with is today and I'm satisfied that I achieved my goal today.

I am so grateful to have found this site and I am going to order the Spark Book to complete my goals for the day. Thank you everyone for being on this awesome site and offering the gift of sharing your hearts.
