Training for the 5K

Another good day yesterday for both food and fitness. I did my first day of the 5K training suggested here on SparkPeople, walking for 4 min, then jogging for 1, repeating until 25 min are completed. It wasn't pretty, but I did it!

    It does get easy. I remeber when I started I thought 1 minute was forever. If you stick to it you will amaze yourself each week.

Start of my 5K training

Yesterday was a good day for both food and fitness. I stayed within all (I think) nutritional guidelines, and got out for a good bit of exercise trying to map out a course for the upcoming virtual 5K. I thought I might have overdone it, but I felt good when I was done, and still feel good today, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Now I've done it.

I've got several blogs on other niche topics, but I wanted a place where I could chronicle my day to day activities, as well as share tips and tricks, things I've come across in my journey towards fitness that might not be appropriate for this SparkPeople blog. The result is a brand new blog just started moments ago.

I'll still be posting here on the SparkPeople blog, but will probably expound more on the other. I hope you check it out and follow along on my journey as I get "Fit in My Fifties".

An Amazing Day!

Today I:

- Signed up for the SparkPeople 5K walk/job during the week of Halloween

- Drove out to a local bike and walking trail to recon where I can train and 'run' my 5K
- Walked approx a mile on the hardtop bike trail
- Walked the approx 2 1/4 mile walking trail (which included a couple of short inclines)
- Chose good foods to eat and even with the added exercise, stayed within calorie limit (went over a little in carbs, but lots of fiber, so it's all good)


I'm tired and a little sore, but it was a great day! I might still have a small snack in the next hour or two which will put me close to my calorie limit, but I think I've earned it. No junk food, though ... probably a hunk of cheese or a small handful of almonds or pistachios.

(I might have to re-read this post in the morning to remind myself of how motivated I feel right now ... IF I can get this decrepit old body out of bed!)
