My first tracked meal here...

Sunday, August 12, 2012

Just a bit of a backstory. I've dieted most of my life. Not always because I was overweight, actually in the beginning it was because I believed I was fat (though I was average). In high school I struggled with an ED cycle: overeat for a couple months, starve for a couple months, binge and purge for a couple months, and repeat. So since then my weight has yoyo-ed but as I destroyed my body I always ended up putting more weight on than I took off. I finally broke that cycle 3 years ago and have slowly trying to ease myself back into dieting because I'm still overweight. But this time I want to lose the weight mostly for health and not just looks.

So here we are today. I rarely EVER feel full. I don't know what is but I just don't typically get that response unless I'm out to eat or at a buffet. This morning I made myself an excellent breakfast sandwich. English muffin toast, egg beater, turkey bacon, cheese wedge, miracle whip, it was lovely! When I signed up for this site last night it asked me to set the Fast Break goals. The one I chose was "Don't eat in front of the TV or computer : 1x / day." GAH!! That's the only place I ever eat! But this morning for breakfast I sat down at the table with my sandwich and large glass of water and ate...with my eyes shut. The reason I shut my eyes was because the entire table was covered with the Sunday paper ads and they are a major weakness of mine. Each bite I shut my eyes, chewed slowly, and enjoyed. Afterwards I would take a huge gulp of cold water. Let me tell you I felt like a little kid wanting to go out and play but was stuck at supper. I felt like that sandwich would never end! Usually I don't even notice when I took the last bite because I'm so busy with other things. This time that last bite felt like it stuffed me to the max and I know it wasn't that big of a sandwich. But I definitely think a major part was actually sitting a recognizing that I am eating.

I may need to do this more often!

Very interesting. I eat at the computer or tv, too. Lately I've made my son eat at the table and I have eaten with him a few times.
