Hot chocolate, coffee. We have hot chocolate sometimes for breakfast, but it is usually an occasional, late-night drink in the winter, now.
My father drank coffee, but none of the rest of us ever did. I remember opening my father’s Maxwell House coffee grounds can. I loved opening the new can because the smell of the coffee grounds was wonderful. I had the job of filling the coffee maker with the grounds and the water for dad’s morning breakfast. He got up early and turned on the coffee maker. He filled his thermos with that coffee and some crème (real cream on occasion, but usually half-n-half), and would take a cup filled with the same on his drive to work.
I do not think that dad ever had any hot chocolate. Mom did.

Dry cereals: Rice Chex & Corn Chex, Shredded Wheat, Rice Krispies, and Cheerios. These were the standard cereals at my house as a child. We never had oatmeal, omelet’s, or other fancy stuff. Only cold cereal in the morning during the week, and cooked breakfast on the weekends. That was OK by me. I loved all these cereals and have them in my house today.

I actually did get a lot of good work done today, but it felt like it did not get much done. Weird. Anyway, I did have a lovely time with my legal assistant. We simply had to talk about things together. I am blessed to have such a wonderful lady on my team. YEAH!!

Oatmeal is my new favorite. Steel cut. No more highly processed oats for me. Oh, my, are they good. I like them a little bit soft, with some milk and maybe, if I have been very, very, good, some Damara sugar on the small bowl of oatmeal. It feels like love. Good stuff.
We were introduced to this kind of oatmeal at Laurel Inn, a B&B in the Hocking Hills of Ohio. We were served about 1/8 cup of this stuff. Loved it, had no idea what it was, so we asked. They brought out the label for the product, and I have purchased it many, many times over.
Yes, it takes some time to make it, but sitting in line at the fast-food joint takes nearly the same time, and NEVER, well, maybe at one place where we used to get breakfast croissants with ham and cheese (YUM), have I had a better breakfast food. I think I will put some walnuts or dried cranberries in it the next time I have this oatmeal. Pure heaven.

Omelets. Omelets are my standard favorite, cooked at home about once a month. I like chorizo, ham, sausage, cheese, onions, avocado, and some other good things in/on my omelet.
I do NOT want any potatoes in/on my omelet. On the side, sure, and plenty of them, please, but not IN/ON my omelet.
I now have a minor passion for hollandaise sauce with avocado and bacon on my omelet. I place blame for that on a local restaurant. I have not made hollandaise sauce ever, and do not expect to do so, but WOW! Nice flavor!
