Friendly Friday

Friday, January 11, 2013

Today was a good day at work. Although I had only one court hearing, I was able to spend some quality time with my legal assistant. We worked through some procedural matters, discussed how to approach a routine problem, and celebrated a few successes.

That is, I think, a very good thing!

So far, I am doing well on exercise, food intake, and attitude today. I did, however, have one of those weird "heavy tired" events on the way home, and decided to take a nap when I arrived home. Thus: dinner is NOT simmering on the stove, yet.

Full day

Thursday, January 10, 2013

WOW. This was a very full day. Our elected prosecutor is in another county running a murder case from our county. Change of venue was required.

That left me, essentially, alone. However, since the Common Pleas judge is also the judge in that case, he also was not in county today.

Whew! I had 16 hearings. And got out of work at 5:30 pm. Only 1.5 hours after usual.

Food intake today: good!
Exercise (walking): fair!
Attitude: Good

Moving onward.

Three nights

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

My daughter, Laura, and I have spent three nights in a row taking care of sick cars.

We brought the Caddy home tonight. She is not wholly well, but better. I have to make serious plans to have her engine rebuilt. Meanwhile, I will treat her with the proper fuel additives.

The van will not be home for a week, but she is being taken care of, and the prognosis is good.

I am so thankful that the Sebring was available and runs well.

And I hope that all you the Sparkpeople cars are doing well, too!

I have one sick car that reads love but the "medication" costs too much.

I traded my car in a couple of months ago in order to have a reliable one.

OK. The bad news. The transmission on the van needs to rebuilt. Good news. It did not seize up on the frreeway! We lost only the third and fourth gears. But the whole thing needs to be rebuilt. We are going to do that, as the van is our "service" vehicle, and has, indeed, served us well. It only has 172,000 miles on it, and thus has many, many more miles to give us.

And, the Sebring did well today, no problems!

The Caddy went in for its engine work. No idea what that will cost, but thankful, again, that it was able to get to the shop safely.

Our cash will dwindle, but I am thankful that we can (I hope) cover all the expenses.

This does mean that I will not buy a new car this year.

True enough. We understand that point.

However, we maintain, repair and use our cars with great care, and keep detailed records of the costs. This is not the time for us to trade in any of our cars to buy another one. They are too young, too few miles, and the repairs/maintenance do not yet reach the level of absurdity. Not yet, anyway. That time will come for each of these vehicles.

At some point the cost of repairs exceeds the cost od a newer vehicle.

Two Cars

Monday, January 07, 2013

OK. I have an appointment to take my regular car to the repair shop for a likely compression issue on Tuesday night. That car is parked until we take it to the repair shop.

Tonight, the van (the extra vehicle) had something happen to the rear end area (wheel/brakes/differential, etc) and I had to have it towed to the repair shop.

We are down to one working car at home. I am grateful for that! However, it is worrisome!

I do mean that. I am grateful that we have another car to use. It does mean that one member of the family will have to stay home for a day or two without a car. But that is minor. It could mean no transportation to work.

And that is not the case.

Keep smiling!! All will be well!

If my one car was down, I'm stranded.
