OK. The bad news. The transmission on the van needs to rebuilt. Good news. It did not seize up on the frreeway! We lost only the third and fourth gears. But the whole thing needs to be rebuilt. We are going to do that, as the van is our "service" vehicle, and has, indeed, served us well. It only has 172,000 miles on it, and thus has many, many more miles to give us.

And, the Sebring did well today, no problems!

The Caddy went in for its engine work. No idea what that will cost, but thankful, again, that it was able to get to the shop safely.

Our cash will dwindle, but I am thankful that we can (I hope) cover all the expenses.

This does mean that I will not buy a new car this year.

True enough. We understand that point.

However, we maintain, repair and use our cars with great care, and keep detailed records of the costs. This is not the time for us to trade in any of our cars to buy another one. They are too young, too few miles, and the repairs/maintenance do not yet reach the level of absurdity. Not yet, anyway. That time will come for each of these vehicles.

At some point the cost of repairs exceeds the cost od a newer vehicle.

Two Cars

Monday, January 07, 2013

OK. I have an appointment to take my regular car to the repair shop for a likely compression issue on Tuesday night. That car is parked until we take it to the repair shop.

Tonight, the van (the extra vehicle) had something happen to the rear end area (wheel/brakes/differential, etc) and I had to have it towed to the repair shop.

We are down to one working car at home. I am grateful for that! However, it is worrisome!

I do mean that. I am grateful that we have another car to use. It does mean that one member of the family will have to stay home for a day or two without a car. But that is minor. It could mean no transportation to work.

And that is not the case.

Keep smiling!! All will be well!

If my one car was down, I'm stranded.

400 days

Saturday, January 05, 2013

I logged in 400 visits to Curves this morning. I had that scheduled for November, but, . . .

Anyway, I am pleased with that accomplishment.

It seems, however, like I only work, exercise, pay bills, work, exercise, pay bills these days.

I think I will go to an antique store and walk around. A small treat.

I had better do it now or I will not go out at all! I will see how many steps I can get in while out and about at the antique store.

Free entertainment!

Fireplace ablaze

Friday, January 04, 2013

I am working from home today. I have a permanent custody final hearing next Tuesday, and I need to put together my trial binder. There will be five attorneys, including me, at the trial. I only have one witness other than the defendants. All in all, it is a pretty straightforward case.

However, it pays to be prepared!!

So, in light of that habit, I also planned my meals for next week. Lunch, I mean. Usually it is leftovers. However, some things serve better as leftovers than others. So, I am planning backward from lunch to the prior evening's dinner. Just to change things up a bit.

Oh, and I have the gas fireplace on. It adds a sense of comfort and abundance to my office/family room.

One step at a time!

    Sounds like a great plan.
We had a gas fireplace when I was growing up.
