Out of shape!

Because all of the pre-party planning and Mom's 90 birthday party week, I hadn't biked for almost two weeks. Hubby and I headed southwest on the Katy Trail yesterday. The weather was cool at first (unbelievable since this is August in MO) but warmed up and turned into a lovely day. My only problem? After about 15 miles, my leg muscles started to ache. I could not believe it! I've ridden much farther without that happening. What did I learn from this? I learned that I was not as buff as my ego had told me I was. (No problems with self-concept here, I guess.) I've decided that I need to do less walking and more biking. I hate to give up some of my walking with my buddies but walking bothers my back problems and biking does not. We'll see.

    Do what works for you and if that's biking then I say go for it. If you really enjoy walking maybe consider once a week and the rest biking, find the balance that works for you. emoticon

    Amazing how in such a short time we can lose some muscle strength! Good luck in finding a good mix for yourself. I'm sure you're still in better shape than you're giving yourself credit for! Here's to us and a healthy way of living!

    Oh, I know what you mean~! But at least you will be getting back to it. My fitness center cancelled group classes for TWO WEEKS so I am really dreading tomorrow, when I jump back in.

Well, we'll both get back up to speed in short order!

Heading to Festival of the Little Hills

I'm so excited. This weekend is the Festival of the Little Hills. Each year, more than 200,000 visitors brave the August heat and head to Frontier Park and historic Main Street St. Charles.The festival is held the third weekend in August and is known for unique fair food, live music and hundreds of craft booths.

I'm hoping to find the Pork Rind Guy and my favorite Jewelry Guy. This afternoon I'm headed up solo, so can take my time brousing. Tomorrow hubby and I are riding our bikes up (it's about 8 miles via Katy Trail). Last year we shared a huge fried onion with all of the fixings but it is not on my radar this year.

Maybe I'll see you up there. Drop by if you are close....it's a great time.

    What a pretty area you live at have driven through there. Sounds like some great late summer fun. Last time I found that the smells alone of the fair brought back so many great memories that I didn't miss eating all the food of my childhood. Enjoy. emoticon

    The BF and I are going tomorrow. I can't wait. Last year there was a Mexican vendor that had the BEST flautas. He'd better be there again this year! LOL

Goals update

August goals:

1. Continue to track my food to concentrate on calories and nutrition.

I HAVE NOT BEEN TRACKING BUT HAVE BEEN WATCHING WHAT I EAT AND HAVE BEEN EXERCISING PORTION CONTROL.

2. Continue to track my exercise (at least 30 minutes a day). Hopefully the weather will not be so hot and I can get outside more.

I HAVE BEEN DOING LESS FORMAL EXERCISE BUT MORE WALKING.

3. Continue to limit the amount of sweets I eat.

A-OK

4. Enjoy spending time with family who are coming in for Mom's 90th.

WE HAD A GREAT TIIME!

I will continue with goals 1-3 and will replace the 4th goal with one that involves more walking and biking with friends.

The dust has settled.

The party week was a sucess. We had no airport snafoos and everyone managed to get to all of the planned activities. We ate, drank, visited local sites, walked, hugged, and talked.(and talked and talked). Some of us had not seen each other for years and it was great fun to catch up. Now we are making plans to visit each other next summer.

Now, back to reality. It will take us years to eat all of the leftovers so I have frozen what I could. I figured, out of sight, out of mind. I did not put on any weight (miraculously) and do not intend to do to because of leftovers. Once I resume my exercise schedule I'll be good to go.

I hope that you are having a great week. Tomorrow starts my quest for clean laundry. We don't have a clean sheet or towel in the house.
