Poppycock

Friday, August 24, 2012

Since finishing the Tame Your Sweet Tooth challenge, I've been able to stay away from too many sweets. Today that changed. Hubby and I were at Costco and decided to indulge in some Poppycock. What a mistake! We ate almost half of it on the ride home. The good news is that we both wished that we had not even started on it. We agreed that it was not nearly as good as we remembered it to be. When we got home I wrapped it up and stuck it up in the back of the pantry. Hopefully, we'll forget about it.

Gotta indulge once in a while, but think of the progress you've made whereas once it was a tasty treat and this time around it wasn't so special. emoticon

Oh poppycock! Sounds like you did the right thing by trying it and then hiding it. It'll get stale and you can throw it out. Now you know that craving has been satisfied.....maybe for life!

I haven't had that for a long time either. and it is so hard to leave alone. I'm better off not buying it. At least now you know it's not as good as it used to be. Maybe you should just thrown it away. Best wishes to you.

I have not had that stuff in ages. When I go there I am tempted by all of the yummy things. My budget keeps me in line. I make a list & stick to it. No room in the budget for junk food, but there is 1.50 for a frozen yogurt in the snack bar emoticon

So reading your blog was educational for me tonight. I'm not familiar with Poppycock so I had to do an internet search to learn about it. I thought your comment about how the Poppycock wasn't as good as you remembered was interesting and so true. I think it's always so amazing how something doesn't taste as good as you think after detoxing.

I've lost one of my biking buddies.....

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

but I won't let it stop me from riding. My friend quit her job last year and has gotten a part time job and is going to school full time. How could she do that to me?

Today I took off on my bike solo, with a plan in mind. I had decided to go to the grocery story (and pick up a few items for the crock pot lasagna recipe that a spark friend gave me) and then bike by work to get my schedule for next week. I decided to stay off the street and on the sidewalks and went at a time that was not too busy. It was a great ride and I planned the most efficient way to get to both places without having to cross too many busy streets. I went through two stop lights (which was a tad nervewracking) and it worked out just fine. I've decided to keep that particular ride on my weekly agenda.

If you get the itch, beam over to bike with me. I could use the company.

riding alone can have a lot of benefits keep biking and remember don't let anything stop you major roads, hills, back roads, fast cars, are really just part of life!! we would never get in our cars if we worried about how many people will have an accident today. so pedal on and trust all is well

I would LOVE to ride with you, especially on the Katy trail! I live in the country and don't have suitable roads (too narrow, too curvy, too hilly, and people drive 60 mph)!

I will say that from the few times I rode my bike last year (before it ended up in a dumpster, which is a whole other story), biking uses a LOT of different muscles than almost any other exercise!

Keep on Keepin' On, LS!

Give me back my heat!

Monday, August 20, 2012

Earlier in the year I complained about the heat. Now, I'm ready for it to come back. I'm a morning person and like to do my chores early to get them over with. This morning I went out to do some gardening, which is not my favorite thing, and it was too cold to work outside. Sure, I could have put on a jacket and long pants, but I was too lazy (at 6AM) to do that. At 7 I decided to bike but it was too cold for that. Ug! So, I'm settling on doing some paint touch-ups in the bathroom and great room and I'm playing outside later, when it is warmer.

Have a great day....I hope the weather smiles on you.

I'm thankful for the cooler weather ~ NOT being a morning person, I can go out to do my yard work this afternoon without getting heat stroke. I bet it was a bit chilly this morning since it's still pleasant outside at 1 pm! Hope you get a good ride in this afternoon.

Everybody goes through this every year. I live in California and we have had 100 degree weather and above. I complain about the heat and when it rains I complain even more. I love the heat because it means summer vacation for the kids and students. But when it rains it means flu for mainly me.

Out of shape!

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Because all of the pre-party planning and Mom's 90 birthday party week, I hadn't biked for almost two weeks. Hubby and I headed southwest on the Katy Trail yesterday. The weather was cool at first (unbelievable since this is August in MO) but warmed up and turned into a lovely day. My only problem? After about 15 miles, my leg muscles started to ache. I could not believe it! I've ridden much farther without that happening. What did I learn from this? I learned that I was not as buff as my ego had told me I was. (No problems with self-concept here, I guess.) I've decided that I need to do less walking and more biking. I hate to give up some of my walking with my buddies but walking bothers my back problems and biking does not. We'll see.

Have a great Sunday..........I hope that you get to do something fun!

Do what works for you and if that's biking then I say go for it. If you really enjoy walking maybe consider once a week and the rest biking, find the balance that works for you. emoticon
