July goals update

Saturday, July 28, 2012

July goals: ALL IN ALL, I'M HAVING A GREAT MONTH!

1. Track my food to concentrate on calories and nutrition. I HAVE BEEN TRACKING MY FOOD FAITHFULLY.

2. Continue to track my exercise (at least 30 minutes a day) 120 MINUTES OF BIKING THIS AM

3. Get the house ready for Mom's 90th party. I BLEW THIS OFF TODAY. HUBBY WAS IN SAN DIEGO ALL WEEK SO WE SPENT TIME HANGING AROUND TOGETHER TODAY.; NO WORK ALLOWED.

4. Have a great month by planning activities with my summer friends. NO FRIEND ACTVITY THIS WEEK. ONE BUDDY HAS BEEN SUBBING ALL WEEK AND THE OTHER IS ON VACATION.

Great job on the tracking! That is one thing I hate, but I've been doing it faithfully. Yesterday was not fun to track. I feel terrible when I go over on a calorie goal! I love how a long bike ride burns the calories without all of the impact of running!
You are amazing! Quit worrying so much about the house and good job cherishing time with Hubby!

Here's what the doctor said and other stuff...........

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Yep, I have back problems. I have Lumbosacral spondylosis without myelopathy, which he also referred to as Lumbar degenerative disk disease. What a mouthful!

The doc recommended that I continue the exercise program that he gave me but that I should do it every day. I was doing it on days that I did not walk or bike so I guess I'll have to change my routine. He also recommended seeing a podiatrist and taking injections for pain if necessary and a wrote note requesting that I be allowed to wear tennis shoes to work.

I haven't made any phone calls yet but I've decided to cut down on my walking for now; maybe limit it to a half hour. I've spent the last two days getting the house ready for Mom's party; EG. painting, washing linens, cleaning the kid's rooms/garage/basement,shopping for new shower curtains/rugs, etc. ( We've been in the house for 18 years and everything beside the new floors is original.) Because of our drought, the yard is a mess and I've been spending time weeding out dead plants, raking leaves, and watering. The work never ends! The worst thing is that our bath tub has been dismantled so I can't take my relaxing bubble baths. We have two more tubs in the house but I'm too lazy to wash out the gunk that my kids have left in them.

Okay, my ramble stops right here. I hope that you are having a great week......mine sure is busy.

Hi Laurel sorry to hear you back problems but don't let that discourage you from living a healthy life including exercise.

Why are you cleaning the kids room and why are not cleaning the gunk in the tubs. Get you kids to help you. emoticon

Where is that family of yours? Don't they know you're in pain and working like a maniac? emoticon emoticon

Seriously though, I am so sorry about your discomfort and hope that it is slowly degenerative, so that you have many active years ahead of you. Once people become less active the degeneration (is that a word?) begins to move faster, so great job on your active life style. emoticon

Off to the Dr. office

Monday, July 23, 2012

Today I'm going back my back doctor. The exercises that he gave me to do are not doing the trick so I'm hoping that he will have some new suggestions. I still have pain, daily, sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. Wish me luck.

Good luck! Hey, try soaking in a cold tub. Works for us. We have a rubbermaid tub out on the patio, and I just fill it with cold hose water and add some ice. It sounds horrible, but it feels really nice.

This and that

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Happy Sunday to everyone.

Happy Birthday to Hubby, but we are not celebrating today. He is going to San Diego this morning for a conference and will not be back until Friday. He hates it when I make a big deal about his birthday so we will just go out to eat when he gets back.

July goals:

1. Track my food to concentrate on calories and nutrition. I tracked almost everything this week.

2. Continue to track my exercise (at least 30 minutes a day) My fight with my bike and the concrete put a damper on my exercise this week. My road rash is still painful but I have been walking at least 4 miles a day anyway. I go back to the ortho-doc tomorrow. The exercises he gave me for my back have made little impact on my pain; I hope he will have other suggestions.

3. Get the house ready for Mom's 90th party (my 2 sibs and their families from CA will be taking their turns staying with us). Our new shower is almost done. It just needs to be sealed and the doors need to be ordered. Boy, I hope it is all done in time. Being down to two showers is a pain. The upstairs one is a mess and needs to be recaulked. We got a new toilet yesterday and the remaining ones getting all new "insides".

4. Have a great month by planning activities with my summer friends. I didn't get to play with my friends this week. My biking buddy and hiking buddy both subbed all week (summer school) so I was on my own. With hubby being out of town all week I'll have lots of time to play.

How are you doing on your July goals? I hope that you have a great week.

I'm doing great on my goals! Thanks for asking. ;0) I'm looking forward to cycling with friends tomorrow. I usually go by myself or with Hubby. Hubby and I rode 30 miles yesterday. We wanted to go further, but had to get home to run the kids around to their activities. If the numbers don't lie, I am SOOOO hoping to see a three lb. loss on the scale tomorrow AM. But that means I need to be strong today and I felt myself weakening yesterday. Hope you have a great week. It's pretty impressive that you've only crashed once on your bike. I have no idea how many times I've wiped out! emoticon

I am strong; I am invincible; I am Woman!

Thursday, July 19, 2012

At least that's what I thought. I knew I was taking a chance trying to hop a curb on my bike but I thought to myself, "I am invincible, I can do anything!", so I tried to hop the curb. The good news is that when I wiped out I skidded across concrete instead of the dirt/gravel on the Katy Trail. WooHoo....there was not gravel to "dig out" of my scrapes. I was only 5 miles from home and was able to get home and treat my scrapes and headache relatively fast. I'll admit I was a little spooked and rode pretty slowly. The bad news- now I have to admit that I am not really invincible. Sorry, Helen, I have to edit your song to "I am 99.9% invincible".

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUBnxqEVKlk (Great song, by the way.)

This is me tomorrow.............. emoticon...................no stinkin wipe-out is going to keep me off my bike!
